  1. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) By paying most of Contreras' remaining salary. Except that the reports are indicating that the Sox are getting cash from the Rockies.
  2. On a sidenote, for those of you saying we aren't getting Fuller, I haven't seen anyone from the Sox take back that statement. InsidetheSox (Reifert) reported it was Fuller and until he retracts it I'm going to say its a done deal with Fuller.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) Wouldn't mind that at all. He's at least spend alot of time in AAA and has been very effective there. Kid had a 3.83 era in the PCL.. That's doin work. He's more ready than Hudson IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox shut down a Buehlre or someone else or even went with a 6 man rotation and gave both Hynick and Hudson a start or two. But I think you guys would be surprised. Sox like Hudson a lot and while he wasn't ready to come in and get thrown to the wolves (he needed a bit more time in AAA and still might) but Hudson could really benefit from a couple starts late this season. It also gives Ozzie and Coop an early look at the kid who will probably be our 5th starter to start next season (although with Kenny, you never know for sure). But my guess is it'll either be Hudson or Garcia.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) Yep. There has been about 5 chances for Hudson to come up and start, and the Sox haven't taken it. They obviously feel he isn't ready, which is fine. I think it was more that those situations weren't the right ones to bring Hudson up in. Now the Sox can let Hudson come up and actually "develop" so to speak at the big league level and I expect him to get at least 1-2 starts for the Sox this year.
  5. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) He could be a solid BP arm (Carrasco type role) a strong #4 type starter, or like you said.. nothing. I really like his arm though, his changeup is very good and he's very smart. Hopefully we can take him to some interleague play as well.. I like his chances though. Not too many pitchers pitch well in the PCL. BTW, nice article Jas. Thanks, I was gassed from a long day of work, but wanted to get at least a little something up there.
  6. Josh Fields is on his way up to Charlotte, per Cowley. Cowley is also tweeting that Pods will get the bulk of the at bats at DH. However, I expect that will change as September wears on (if the Sox fall out further) and we'll see a lot more of T-Flow.
  7. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) I think Pods will be doing a lot of DH'ing with the outfield of Carlos, Alex and Jermaine. We will be seeing a lot of Tyler Flowers, who will be joining the club tomorrow.
  8. White Sox Trade Thome, Contreras By Mario Scalise SoxNet Following tonight's 4-1 loss, both Jim Thome and Jose Contreras have been traded in a final-hour waiver-wire deal; Thome to the Dodgers and Contreras to the Rockies. While Thome was of greater value to the Sox this season, it was actually Contreras who landed the Sox more in return. The White Sox received minor league right-handed pitcher Brandon Hynick, who in 26 starts (155 innings) posted a 3.83 ERA and a K/BB ratio of 92/48. Thome, and cash went to the Dodgers for minor league infielder Justin Fuller, who is 26 and in single-A. So essentially that deal was one to get Thome a chance to play in the playoffs. Surely the Dodgers weren't going to give a lot for a DH that will only serve as a pinch-hitter for them. First Reaction The White Sox traded two guys that really had no spot on the 2010 team, did so at the last possible moment, and landed themselves an above-average pitching prospect that could be fighting for a rotation spot in March. Both are good moves. Thome wasn't going to bring back any value unless an AL team expressed interest. As soon as the possibilities shifted to the NL, his value dropped. Contreras, meanwhile, still has an arm capable of shutting guys down, especially now in the NL against players who have had little little experience against him, if any at all.
  9. What the Sox Got In Return By Jason Gage SoxNet.net has looked to it's sister site, FutureSox.com to break down the youngsters heading to Chicago as part of the Thome and Contreras trades. Thome and Cash for Justin Fuller This move had more to do with financial savings and sending Thome to a contender than it did prospects. Fuller is a 26 year-old middle infielder who hasn't made it past high-a ball. Combine that with a career .244 average and we are talking about a pure organizational guy with zero upside. Jose Conteras for Cash and Brandon Hynick: The Sox got surprising value for Contreras. While I think every Sox fan owes Jose a thank-you for the 2005 season, we should also thank Kenny for acquiring Brandon Hynick. Hynick isn't a can't miss prospect and he might not pan out, but he is a guy that possesses an above average change-up, very good composure, and the ability to develop into a potential back of the rotation starter.More
  10. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:23 PM) Really, have you heard that from the organization? I hope that's not true. I'm not sold on Getz or Nix as everyday 2B when we have Beckham and Alexei capable of anchoring the MIF. And Viciedo has only played one game at 1B as a member of the Sox. Just because someone hasn't played 1st yet, doesn't mean it isn't in the plans. Viciedo is a bad defensive 3rd baseman and he's either moving to 1st or left field. In regards to Getz, I haven't spoken of him, but Ozzie himself said he was part of the Sox future and I know the Sox like him a lot. Whether you agree with it or not is another statement, but I will tell you that Viciedo is a superior prospect to Brandon Allen.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:20 PM) I think Paulie will be dealt in the winter. For some reason, I have a hunch he'll allow a trade, although not just to anywhere, which unfortunately restricits his value and the amount of potential teams. Thome won't be dealt, he'll just be gone after the year. Might even retire. Paulie has always said he woudln't get in the way of a trade if it is in the best interest of the Sox (I'm sure he has a few places he wouldn't want to go, but if the Sox were sending him to a quality franchise he's a-ok with it).
  12. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:18 PM) Eat a couple mil and send him to the Braves. Then call up... oh wait. Nevermind. [heavy sarcasm]Maybe we can get Casey Kotchman for him?[heavy sarcasm] But yeah, if we move Paulie we need something other than the likes of Josh Kroeger, Aubrey Huff, or Kevin Millar to put there. Viciedo is the 1st base prospect of the future. It is why Allen was much more expendable than some would have liked. Beckham is the 3b of the present and future. Ramirez the SS of the present and future.
  13. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) AJP would be a awesome captain.. atleast we'd have some more fire in this team. i can't stand konerko's post game interviews with his cheesy answers on why they lose.. dye looks miserable/tired out there and Thome's age is really starting to catch up to his bat/body it seems. The Sox are going away from the guys who have extended hot and cold streaks so they can be a more consistent team. While Thome walks consistently he doesn't hit consistently and ultimate I figure that will be the reason he's gone. That said he's a very good veteran and provides some things that no one else on the roster can provide (good OBP, tons of power from the left side).
  14. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:12 PM) Konerko is the only one with value they can really deal for a return.. and i wouldn't mind it if we got rid of his contract. bring back thome next year and let dye go. sign a stud 1b/or LF and have Kotsay/Pods fill in. It might be hard to put a Paulie deal together so fast, but I think he'll be gone, along with THome and Dye. Sox are going to change there veteran presence in the lineup and my guess is AJP will be the new captain.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) The only ignorance around here was people believing this team had a chance at being anything just because they beat up on some NL teams in June and were in the race because the AL Central is an absolute joke. Certainly, it would have been difficult to trade away the dinosaurus when we were only 3 games back or whatever it was at the deadline, but the fact is this team isn't good, has never been good, and now our long term prospects have taken a hit because we kept the old guys around for a race that was over before the month of September even started. What long-term prospects were hurt? The Sox got Peavy and Rios for the next few years. So whatever we gave up for them can't be blamed and I find it hard pressed that Thome would have waived his no-trade clause to leave Chicago when the Sox were 2-3 games out of it (not to mention the PR impact, which again, would never be done again after the fiasco that was the White Flag trade, PR wise). Who are the Sox not playing? Danks has struggled down in AAA so he really isn't missing ab's. I guess you could say that FLowers should have been up or maybe Hudson but the reality is additional time in the minors was beneficial to them. SO I really don't see what the Sox held back on? And I have a ton of doubts that the Sox would have gotten a ton for Dye if in fact it is true and his contract becomes guaranteed for next year if he's moved (I think we might get one good prospect if we move a Dye/Thome/Dotel). So I really am not seeing what long term prospects have taken a hit because of this?
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) You know what's worse business? Not doing what's best for the long term interest of the franchise just because a mediocre division is keeping you close in the race. Now, we're not in the playoffs and are going to get nothing but hit or miss draft picks or nothing trade packages for our veterans who have collapse down the stretch. It appears the jackasses around here are the people who were saying I was crazy all July for saying we should be in sell mode. You all were proven wrong, but I enjoy the fact you are reverting to personal attacks rather than admitting it. Great example to set as a moderator. I'm not just a mod, I'm the owner and when I see someone making absolutely ignorant statements I'll call him out for it. I don't care what you want to say, the stupidest thing the club could have done at that point was to sell everything (and this is coming from the same jackass, me, who wanted to sell the team in May).
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) Why wasn't this done in late July? Or a week ago for that matter? It's too late for this now, should have sold what parts we do have when we had the chance. Are you a jackass? Seriously, I understand I'm making a personal attack but my god, the team was barely out of 1st place and they acquired Jake Peavy. Why would they have moved Dye/Thome. That would have been suicide to the fan base and the waiving of a white flag. JR would never do that again after the PR hit the club took.
  18. I speculated at this earlier and it doesn't surprise me. I'm glad Kenny is doing this and I hope we see Dye and Thome moved. Maybe even Dotel or Liney.
  19. Will Pods garner any sort of compensation on the market if we offer him arbitration? I know he sucked last year, but he's been pretty darn good this year.
  20. QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Too bad playing Flowers means sitting down one of the few veterans who's actually hitting. Maybe AJ can DH when Flowers plays, or maybe Flowers DH's? I wouldn't be shocked if the Sox pulled out a quick trade sending one of Dye/Thome or even Konerko to another team. Less likely that it would be Paulie, since they'd have more time to work out a trade, but if Thome wants to play for a contender now would be his chance. Basically throw em on waivers, see who claims up, put together whatever deal you can and get something for them.
  21. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) who else will be coming up? anyone have any ideas? I'm sure wise will... Wise and Getz will be coming off the DL. Flowers. Other possibilities are Hudson, Link, and Nunez.
  22. Cool. It'll at least be fun to see what these young kids can do. My guess is we might see Hudson too, just so he can see what the major leagues is like.

Resevoir Dogs, and Kill Bill would be the exceptions. Pulp Fiction was solid too, didn't like it as much as all of you guys though.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) I've never been as motivated by this thread to see a film as I now am to see Basterds. I like 90% of Quentin's films as it is, but between some of the early reviews and my general preconception that Nazis are not necessarily the humor well I was half-expecting ths one to miss the mark. I'm glad to see a number of posters here give this one high marks and put it back in my sights. Well I hate to rain on the parade, but I thought it stunk. Than again I think Quentin stinks and I am rarely, if ever, a fan of his films.

Hopefully I'll be changing my title here in a couple weeks as to what I do. Am hoping to be joining a large semi-conductor company doing some international work for them (op audits).
