I like this Australian lefty.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) Danks played in one split squad game that wasn't televised, I think he had a couple hits. He's in minor league camp so we're not going to see much of him until near the end of spring when rosters start getting pared down and the players from minor league camp start getting some time near the end of games. Excellent, I hope to see him play when I'm there in the end of March.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Omogrosso is an older guy, but I think he's got a future in the pen someday. Too lazy to research it, but he was a pretty high pick, I believe 5th or 6th round.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Team Australia has no chance in the WBC.
-
Has Jordan Danks played at all? And Dayan looks f***ing stellar.
-
Dayan seems a bit more patient than the typicaly Cuban. Albeit its on a very small sample size.
-
Wow, that was an awful K. Hanging curve.
-
Good ole Alexei.
-
Beautiful Beckham. Back up the middle.
-
That was a cookie.
-
Flowers is f***ing huge.
-
Awesome, Omogrosso working quickly and just dominated. Three k's. Still needs to develop his off-speed stuff a bit but you can't coach arms like that.
-
Melton and who?
-
Omogrosso has really good stuff or thats what I've always been told. His delivery looks fluid, the key is for him to stay healthy. K'd his first two batters. Looks to have some nice juice to the FB. Who are the announcers?
-
But, midweek games can be very helpful if it allows you to beat a top team, but overall your right, they tend to mean very little. Althought its a great way to develop your young pitchers and ideally have other guys ready for the playoff push.
-
Ya, his curve wasn't that good at the major league level but I heard good things about it at the minor league level. It's nowhere near a plus pitch, but its good enough to keep hitters off-balance and help him pile up some k's.

I really like Chris Getz but I also know Getz could be an incredibly valuable utility guy and if Nix can hit and is anything like I've read about defensively than I'm really intrigued to see what he can do and if these adjustments are for real. Nix is a really good athlete and could be a welcome addition. I definately think the Sox have some pretty talented guys in Getz/Nix/Lillibridge (Getz clearly being the least talented of the bunch, but he just has a beautiful swing and the look of a guy who belongs). Although clearly none are what you would describe as top prospects (although two of the three are former top prospects) as they are all short in the tools department in an area or two.

Hands down Richard. He doesn't have anything that wows you but he keeps the ball down and has very good movement, as evidenced by the fact that in his limited major league experience very few teams have squared him up and hit the ball hard on a regular basis. I know he had a couple rough games in his early debut but a lot of those were more due to his own crappy fielding and some see and eye singles (for the most part). Overall I really like Richard and think at worse he'll be an absolute stud reliever.

I agree, but my point is that I would still gladly give up that much for Holt. He's had one season in the last seven or so years where he wasn't a complete badass and that happened to be this past year when he had absolutely no one throwing him the football. I think he still has a couple 1000 yard seasons or close to it left in him and being able to add that type of talent immediately makes this team better (Hester is a legit #2 or should develop into one and than you can push Rashid davis into a 5th spot where he's primarily a special teams guy with Bennett and the draft pick getting the other spots).

Would a win give us the 8 seed?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) I think he was referring to Holt, who has yet to be officially released. You'd think the Lovie, STL connection would make it happen. Holt plus a smart first day pick at WR would be exceptional. The WR corps would be immediately better with the potential to be very good (Bennett, draft pick, and Hester as the up and comers with Holt as the total vet that can really help those three young WR's develop on top of being the steady 3rd down target along with Olsen/Clark). That would be a f***ing serious upgrade to the offense and when you than focus on adding a olineman via the draft you could have really really upgraded the offense in a matter of one off-season (and there is no reason they couldn't use a 1st round pick on a tackle, a 2nd rounder on the best WR, and than sign Holt). The only thing left would be to find a safety and than obviously try to draft and pick up some depth in the secondary but really the teams corners are still young and it sounds like Vasher will be around and I think he still has some football left in him.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 09:48 AM) He was released, no compensation necassary I'm referring to Holt. I know he's requested his release but I haven't heard anything else officially happening.
-
Are you kidding me...of course I'd love him on the Bears. I still prefer Holt though and I'd give up a lot to get him. Bring him in for a 3rd rounder, give him a 3 year contract.

Ohio State and Notre Dame are both pretty well thought of this year. I'm not saying either is a legit stellar team but they are both going to have a great shot at the dance.
