QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) Didn't watch it... I missed I, II, III and IV Oh this crap was craptacular back in the day. I loved it.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) yes, i'm talking about the war that kiilled thousands of americans, and is easy to support and put magnets up, but not as easy to lose friends to. There is a difference between lies that lead to deaths, lies that lead to torture, than lies about government successes. But seeing as how you are so familiar with how people lie, Y2HH, i bet you didn't support the invasion at all. I know a lot of people personally that are involved in both wars. Let's not start throwing that crap around, mmmkay? My point was that it's a nice catchy phrase that people love to throw out and it's ridiculous. "Saved or created" is about as stupid as "Bush lied, people died". And, metaphorically, people are economically dying out here right now, and for what? So our current president can pat himself on the back when a government inflated GDP number comes in? He doesn't give a s*** about countless people on this board (for example) that are unemployed; "saved and created jobs" is all for political gain.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) I love snopes. A friend just forwarded an email with some phony outrage regarding Michelel Obama's unprecedented number of assistants. It pointed out how other first ladies like Laura Bush only had one assistant and how much all of this is costing the taxpayer. "And this is change we can believe in??" A quick snopes check shows that Michelle does have the number of assistants as the email stated but it's exactly in line with other first ladies. I went ahead and replied to every single person in the email chain with the snopes results. This is the kind of stuff that drives me nuts. It doesn't help at all. It honestly doesn't matter how much staff she has. And, indirectly, she could have a ton of staff, and it doesn't matter.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) this is totes on par with going to war that costs trillions and killed thousands of americans. Yep. Bush lied, people died. Bitter, party of one (or a few), your table awaits.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) I couldn't find the original Stimulus Bill thread, so I'll use this one. So, the Trib decided to dig into the details of ObamaCo's claims on how many jobs were saved or created from the stimulus money. They focused specifically on schools in Illinois, so that it was manageable, as an example. Not surprisingly, the numbers they are using are off - and I mean waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. Like, saying a school district with 200 teachers on staff somehow saved 350 teaching jobs. But here is a really interesting thing to note - the bad numbers are present on both sides of the equation. For example, the Chicago Public Schools probably saved something like 1200 jobs, but they showed their number as zero, because of some idiotic decision made by a bureaucrat that jobs could not be considered saved unless the person was laid off, then un-laid-off. WTF? This is awful, and ObamaCo should be ashamed of themselves for putting out a report this fundamentally flawed. This tells me what many have already been saying - that the numbers are meaningless and unfounded in any sort of material fact. The article simply confirms it. Article link. It's like they knew that this was going to happen so about week one into his administration, they came up with this bulls*** "saved or created". BUT WAIT! They didn't know how bad it was, Bush lied, people died, you know, the usual. Seriously, this is some of the lamest verbage to come out of the man's mouth. It's a joke.
  6. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 08:52 AM) That made no sense. Law says you must mail ballots out 45 days prior to election. Governor scheduled election giving only 35 days for soldiers half way around the world to receive their ballots, fill them out, and return them in time for the election. Seems like a pretty blatant attempt to discount the military vote. WTF does the Supreme Court have to do with anything? Dems will always be bitter about this and use this as their debate du jour when they don't want to talk about anything else.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) The latest from Barack Obama's Facebook news feed: http://www.slate.com/id/2234008/ These are hilarious if you follow them. I really enjoy these.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) Am i wrong in thinking this violates their tax-exempt status? Via HuffingtonPost- Yes. (sorry, it was too easy).
  9. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 12:02 AM) And on the Presidential election. And torture. He almost lost his chairmanship after the election last year after campaigning for McCain. He spoke at the RNC. Democrats don't do that. Democrats like me oppose a non party member who caucuses with our party having a gavel in a committee if they agree to filibuster and campaign with the Republicans. There are plenty of deserving Democrats in the Senate who could have that gavel too. There are a dozen caucusing Senators who have wavered on this in one form or another. And in many cases, their no vote may bite them in the ass if they're up for reelection next year. They may face a primary challenge, too. This is what happens when you stray from the mainstream of a party. Especially when you are less popular than the issue you oppose. But nobody is looking to kick them out of the party. The one thing I will agree with is the campaigning against Obama. But it shows that the party left him, he didn't leave the party. You all want to paint Obama as a moderate, and he's just not. But that's a whole 'nother subject.
  10. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 11:21 PM) Did I miss the story of Olympia Snowe caucusing with the Democrats? Or maybe I missed the story where the Democrats deserted their candidate in the Maine senate race to protect the Republican senate seat. When did that happen again? Seriously, Joementum is on board with the Dems most of the time. Obamacare and the war stuff... he left the party. Ok. I guess that means anyone who votes against Obamacare left the party as well.
  11. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) He left the party. He isn't a Democrat. He asked the Democrats for help. If you were Harry Reid would you say, well we'll just ignore our nominee for nothing in exchange? Last time I checked electoral politics were never part of TARP. Oh, but the party left him, you know. If it's good for Olympia Snowe, why isn't it good for Joementum? It's hypocritcal.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 11:09 PM) Which is of course entirely why this is an issue....because some kids will genuinely have reason to freak out. Yea, I have a hard time thinking about medical issues and abortion being on the same plane. I mean, I see what you all are saying - but I just have a hard time thinking of abortion as a "medical procedure". I understand for consent it's the same (correct?). It's too clinical and doesn't compare well in my mind but I'm biased in my thinking, I guess.
  13. QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) Wouldn't that also make parental consent redundant in the case of abortion? You'd think, but I guess where that differs somewhat is kids freak out about sexual stuff and want to hide it from their parents, as opposed to life threatening illness. I hope that makes sense on what I'm trying to get across.
  14. It just depends on your perspective. For example, Corzine is a billionaire who ran Goldman Sachs. By that definition, Democrats should hate the man, but since he's a liberal, they love him. So which story do you want to talk about? Same with George Soros. Same with... you get the point. There's so much hypocrisy on every level on both sides of the aisle.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) I believe I illustrated that the Dems have nothing to be worried about, and in fact, it looks like they are quite happy about this. Its the R's that need to worry about this particular trend. Moderates and independents are the make-and-break of pretty much every national level election. You eschew those voters, and you lose out big time. And moderates and independents flocked to Reagan bigtime. So, if a real conservative actually could articulate something once in a while, it would work again.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) She said she'd vote AGAINST ObamaCare, and she signed the pledge for no tax increases. The only thing from your items here that is not right-of-center is cap and trade. She said somewhere she was for a public option... I forget the source to be honest. And it may have been BS, but I saw her support for it somewhere I read. And that "pledge for no tax increases" is a joke. Seriously. If you support cap and trade, you support tax increases, for one. For another, her previous record shows otherwise.
  17. Attics are still damn hot in November (in Texas).
  18. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) Correct - have the idiot parents arrested. Problem is, it doesn't happen because the kids are taught to believe what the parents do.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) Grow up? First, I've seen conservatives on here call them teabaggers. Second, I've seen all variety of deriding nicknames given out by wingers and moderates on both sides, to all sorts of groups, a lot worse than that. And of all people to say "grow up" to... Rex is one of the most rational, mature, lucid posters in here, whether or not you agree with his views. This candidate was textbook moderate, and taken a whole, appears slightly right of center. As Rex said, if you don't want those folks in the party, that's fine. Enjoy being a permanent minority as a result, though. Do you tear apart the Blue Dogs in this same fashion? And for that matter, I personally want to see MORE candidates in BOTH parties that aren't just sitting in the wings, shouting from the gallery. The extremes we are seeing the parties run towards, especially the GOP (but not ONLY), are really a detriment to getting anything useful done. Her support of healthcare (specifically ObamaCare), cap and trade, and tax policy does not make her "right of center".
  20. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Newt Gingrich October 22, 2009 Ideological purity = permanent minority. Sure, he had some moderates vote for him, but conservatism is what got him the speaker's position, not being a moderate. You are comparing a molehill with a mountain here.
  21. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) If you're getting both the endorsement of the Working Families party and Newt Gingrich that makes you a moderate. Or has suddenly Newt become a RINO these days? Newt got caught with his pants down. Figuratively this time instead of literally.
  22. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 08:27 AM) Given how her party sold her out after she got the nod, I wouldn't blame her. Hoffman doesn't even live in the district, refers to local issues as parochial ones, and even after she dropped out, was trashed by Hoffman in the reaction press release. There wasn't a primary - so it's hard to "sell her out" because it's not a traditional way here. But c'mon Rexy - even you have to admit that this person is probably even further left then the Demy running in this race.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 07:58 AM) Nobody is calling you an idiot but you do have a tendency to act like people are attacking you all the time. When you make a point and someone disagrees with it they're going to explain why you're wrong and say something back, that's what this subforum is here for. People aren't going to agree and that's why this thread is 100+ pages. Nobody in here has a problem with anyone, except maybe one or two people who don't like one another. I go at it with 2K5 all the time in here and it might look like we're fighting, but ask him, we're cool. Same with Kap. Eh, eh, f*** you, you uppity mother f***er.
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Some republican. She is now urging her supporters to vote Democrat! http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article...9918/-1/OPINION She is the Olympia Snowe of New York.
  25. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) Then you aren't really saying anything differently from what NSS is saying. I don't think anyone is. There's no one in this thread regarding this issue that has manufactured outrage, except bmags reacting to what I posted.
