  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) Higher income means higher total taxes paid, while at a lesser rate. Which for some reason Democrats cannot wrap their thick heads around.
  2. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) I agree with you. But the other side is as bad with the government is terrible and can do nothing for you. Wish we had a new crop of leaders that understood the truth was somewhere in the middle. That's wrong. The government can do things for us. But they're not supposed to do everything for us.
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Who paid the higher revenue? Economic growth - the private sector, individuals and corporations.
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Really, I thought he destroyed the Soviet Union when they could not keep up with our defense spending. Come on, you're not this naive.
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) I have no idea what you're saying here, what I said doesn't have anything to do with democrats or republicans. Democrats may lie or sugarcoat their tax increases but that's because the idea of a tax increase is politically toxic. But if you want to cut taxes just say "hey I'm cutting taxes guys!" And nobody will ask you if it'll affect the deficit. Cutting taxes actually raised revenue over time, but they spent more. That's the problem.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) I was actually going to say this, there is no limit to the amount of tax cuts you can propose, but proposing a tax increase (for any reason, even if it's to stop a necessary government program from choking to death) is political suicide these days. Really? The Democrats are lining them up one after another, yet you all seem to think that this is the best thing to ever happen. Oh wait, it's because they are LYING THEIR ASS OFF about what's really happening. They can't tell the truth, or what you would say would happen.
  7. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) For all the great that Reagan did, the everyone gets what they want spending was the negative. Because Congress shot him down every time he actually tried to cut the budget.
  8. Again, it's not the place of the government to dictate how small businesses spend money. Government now controls our bodies (after the senate passes this boondoggle). It was NEVER, EVER intended to control all that it controls.
  9. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 09:02 AM) The usual reaction when we need more revenue is to cut taxes. An across the board tax cut should cover all this nicely. Seriously, There will be lines until the the industry ramps up, which will not take too long. Someone will die and still others will blame the government and Obama. There will probably be displays counting the people that Obamacare kills. You are the one that used to scream about government spending, and now all of a sudden, it's ok.
  10. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) Way to take something not just out of context, but like in a different f***ing galaxy of out of context. There will be no death camps. There will be no "lines", nor government dictated health care in what you can and cannot have done. I don't forsee any of that coming from this. What I see is further deficit, further spending, and further debt. That was the shark tank I'm speaking of jumping. We were already on our way to jumping it, but something this expensive...and trust me it will be WAY more expensive than they've estimated, well...that puts us over the top. Look at your 1-10 year old kids, think about them having kids, and apologize now, because these kids (and their kids) will never, ever see the opportunities we have had up until now. Ever. They will be working for the state to sustain this boondoggle we call government.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) Fixing health care is 1 of the 2 things that must be done to put the economy on a sound footing for the long term (The other is fixing energy). Fixing health care is fixing the economy. What a load of s***. But ok, we're not going to change opinions.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) As expected, we went over the magic line. 10.2%. Total UE including underemployed and not looking for work is at 17%. Bad bits: Big rise in people out of work more than 6 months (record), 22nd straight month of shedding jobs (record), average work week stable (bad because no more hours being put on for existing employees, which is a growth indicator). Good bits: Number of jobs lost fell again and has done so for a few months, and temp jobs jumped (temp jobs usually come before FT jobs) My additional take: We need small business to get this thing going. We need to put them in a better position to get credit in loans, but tax credits in targeted industries or even blanket ones would also help. Temp jobs = holiday.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) Well, also factor in the overhead billing the government pays that doesn't go into my salary or benefits- contracting is a for-profit industry. Yea, but it still doesn't add up to what a government position does many times. I'm not saying every time, but the majority of the time, the cost of a government employee far exceeds that of a private sector employee, profits included.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 12:18 AM) And on the no promotion thing, it sounds like its coming to an end....with me getting a promotion. At least thats what HR told me this week, although I dont' think it becomes official for another month or two. Interviewing another candidate to be my staff later on this week (brought in one already). Its pretty fun being on the interviewing side of things. Great to hear. I'm glad they're recognizing your work.

    Toilet Seat Poll

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:01 AM) Rock bottom. We have hit it. Toilet seats are made from rock?
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) I make more than a government employee FWIW By the time you factor in all the overhead involved in government positions, you might not.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) If anyone wants an accounting gig, I've gotten like 5 peeps hired at my place the past few months. Just have to move to Cali, haha. f***, I'm about to.
  18. I think that's all we're going to be having on our local channels for a while is this news. So sad.
  19. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) part of it, I think is the VP of the losing party, is always pinned as the next hope. Happened with Joe Lieberman (remember when he was leading the polls in 2002) and John Edwards in 2006/07 before Hillary jumped in. Meh. Not good enough of a reason for me.
  20. I don't get it. Palin fills stadiums with 15,000 people on a weekday. Republicans gush over the lady, sort of like Obama and the Democrats during this past election. Why? The MSM and the Democrats have tried like crazy to destroy Sarah Palin, yet she is still around and gaining traction. Why? I can't stand Sarah Palin. Yet, she seems to be the annointed one. Why? I know you Dems would like nothing better then to see this dumbass nominated. I just don't get her popularity.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) The people with the most power in california the United States benefit when nothing changes and the government keeps screwing over the other 99% of its citizens. Fixed that for you.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) And people thought I was crazy for saying from day one that "Jobs Saved" was an impossible number to prove. Anyone with a molecule of a brain knew/knows this, yet he keeps spouting it off, because he's got nothing else.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) Seriously. I just want to know who has time to come up with that kind of nonsense? They can't bother to spend an extra few minutes to fact-check themselves. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) But to Kap's point, who cares? What a trivial thing to get worked up about in the grand scheme of things. A lot of right wing idiots want to use this as an example of wasteful spending, and in the grand scheme of things, it's a pimple on an elephant's ass. It just doesn't matter, and I really dislike it when people spend their energy on this sort of stuff. Talk about something that matters, like health care, or the wars, or whatever major policy discussion. There's plenty of red meat there (hehe, BS).
  24. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) I don't think Bush nor Obama 'don't give a s***' when it comes to soldiers dying, and I think it's unfair for anyone to claim that about either, no matter what affiliation. No one is. My point was one stupid slogan for another that are both ridiculous. And it creates a lot of false images on both counts. No more, no less... With that said, NSS's post does push me to say that Obama really doesn't give a damn about the private sector jobs creation. Health care and cap and trade are much more important.
