  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) It's also worth noting that you're assuming you know Ridge's intentions; money. You're not necessarily wrong, but you're doing the exact same thing you're criticizing. Ridge's intentions may or may not be about money, but they are absolutely at a minimum about trying to save Beltway face. Just like Colin Powell. And they both can take a leap off the political bridge and die. They are two-faced idiots, both of them.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) How will this hurt auto sales for the next 5 years? Because you just accelarated people who don't need cars into $4500 that they wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Let's face it, most "poor people" or "marginally poor people" didn't just go buy a car.
  3. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) Honda http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Liberty_Auto_Plant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Manufacturing_of_Alabama http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marysville_Auto_Plant Plus another in Greensburg, IN Toyota http://news.theage.com.au/business/toyota-...81101-5fov.html Kia http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/worklife/07...town/index.html Hyundai http://www.hmmausa.com/ BMW http://readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=83719 Mercedes Benz http://wardsautoworld.com/ar/auto_uaw_target_mercedes/ VW http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...&type=autos So? Where do the PROFITS go? In the US case, except Ford now, they go to the US government. How nice!
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) I am scum. Just not a whole bag of it. Just your shoetops?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 12:45 PM) THis is probably just a function of the "Out of the labor force/long term unemployed" ranks continuing to grow. The second time in two days. Exactly right. What the hell is wrong with you, Balta, you agreeing with me and stuff.......... (don't tell anyone that I agreed with you... )
  6. No one knows where anything is going to go because a lot of where we go from here has to do with legislation that has yet to be killed or passed. Health care, cap and trade (tax and kill) and a couple of other things have direct bearings on every single business, not to mention tax implications of what is passed and not. Anyone who thinks they "know" is full of s***. Talk to me when we have whatver we are going to have shoved down our orifices and and what is not and then we'll see what "predictions" we can make.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) I'm not a scumbag and I have it set up that way. It was court ordered. But thanks for the insult! You have a pretty high opinion of yourself.
  8. Dang, I have a dilemma now. The Straw Man might have to change to Kappie Leader. But one is just as good as the other.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) This of course begs the question...if you had a problem with that behavior, why didn't you resign? Or why didn't you make it publicly known? You are exactly right. /faints
  10. I think it's been offered a million times, if you want to put time and effort into your thoughts into one of the sites, be our guest. Instead I keep seeing post after post after post about what we should do here. Just saying. If you'd like a whirl at making one of these sites work better, please, by all means, let one of us know and you can have at it.
  11. First, yea, it's the government's place to do all of this. Uh huh. They KNOW what's right and not and will set tax code accordingly. Second, let's tax the s*** out cigarettes, and make tobacco the villian and watch it STILL not make a difference on how they use the tax money from it. Hypocritical. (I'm sure there's some f***ed up "progressive" data out there that will get posted next. Who cares.)
  12. Yep, these guys have nice integrity trying to get back whatever they didn't have in Washington circles, saying s*** years later that what they did was politically motivated. It takes balls to do that. . Tom Ridge and Colin Powell can go suck on their words that don't mean s*** for a while.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) this is why I don't read what you say, you can't write a post without being ridiculous. They're not. Why is this ridiculous? They are guaranteed health care under the current house bill. There was an amendment proposed to take this provision out and it was shot down.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) I stop reading your posts after I read something ridiculous, so rarely do I get past the first sentence. The problem is the only place real pressure is going to come from for change from the insurance industry is the government. So it's either status quo or the evil government is going to have to act on the free market system. So I suggest you call your representatives to put together a plan instead of just playing obstruction. You don't want to hear the alternatives, you just think you're getting something for nothing. Another entitlement. Gimmee, gimmee, gimmee. And BS - I have made several non Kaperbolistic ™ posts in this thread about serious alternatives about actually addressing the problems but none of them go far enough to where the entire world is covered, yet all costs will go down ObamaCare scenarios, so most of you don't care about any other alternative. I'm still waiting for someone to explain how all this coverage will be provided yet costs will go down at the same time. No preconditions will be denied, no illegals denied, no one will be turned away, and miraculously, all costs will insanely go down at the same time. Keep smoking the Dem talking points.
  15. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) Motivation, it's great to read gamethreads here + news. If yall added blakchawks + bears sub parts of the forum soxtalk wold become the one stop place for most chicago sports for me That's not the point of SOXTALK, although it ends up that way at least somewhat.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) I was just at a town hall in Chanahon about health care reform. The guy there held up the binder with the proposed legislation in it. It was 3" thick and packed full. He was reading from various sections in it. I found one interesting that the bill gives the govt the right to access your bank account electronicly to withdraw funds should you choose to not pay. Another one about how you can 'keep' your employer plan (assuming your employer keeps a plan), but there are to be no new signups. When you leave, you are entered into the government plan. nice choice. There were other things mentioned, but several of the interting ones he didn't reference with sections, so I am waiting to find out more first. The interesting one concerned Obama's little check up squads that come to your house and whether or not you own a firearm. I've read most of house bill 3200. That is a huge piece of s*** legislation.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) I've heard no solutions from the right besides tort reform and frankly, when states have done that there has been very little change in health care costs. This system is broken, it's causing bankruptcy in businesses and families, and limiting mobility from those afraid to lose health benefits or start new businesses. People aren't choosing to work or not, get health care or an iphone, they are working to get health care and spending absurds amount of income on it, and then might get dropped when an issue arises that they need it most. God save this free market wonder, the American Insurance industry! Bloddy hell. I've proposed 4 or 5 ideas myself besides tort reform. But no one wants to hear anything but "government must step in and take this over because it's such a mess". Screw it. No one wants but what the talking points are fed to them by their respective blogs.
  18. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) It isn't a true free market system at all in its current form, I thought this was more or less settled a couple dozen pages ago. Very little, especially nowadays, is a true free market. But government control is one way to kill what little competition is left. SS said it a minute ago - and it's sad - those who want this so bad just keep accepting every Obama talking point like it's right on and this is the best thing to ever happen. There are alternatives to start fixing this (hell, let's try addressing the PROBLEMS themselves instead of a complete takeover, what a novel freaking idea that would be). No, can't have that, because liberals have had a hard on for health care since the 1930's and they are the closest they have ever been. They will not give this control up... not like they did in 1993.
  19. I don't ever wish a player to get hurt in any form, but I hope this asshole gets Bradied the first play from scrimmage he takes. I was fine with Fah'vre until he pulled this s*** last year, let alone this year. I really, really hope someone makes his first play his last. I guess I can go suspend myself, huh?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) If you guys are going to defend this system as "Competition!", then I wish I was around to see how you'd have reacted when the government broke up AT&T. AT&T and who else at that time? I listed I think 7 major companies that offer insurance and of course I got dismissed because it's not real competition.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) Oh boy. We've been down this road before. Time for everyone to pile on ol' BigSqwert. Hehe. Actually I said in your other thread I can respect your position on this if you can respect mine.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Thank you. There is not choice in the current system. This was just a roundabout way of having you make that point for me. There isn't? Wow. You can choose to work, or not. Or get health care, or not. Or get an individual plan instead of that nice IPhone, or not. Whatever. The choice is yours. Instead, let's all get cattle driven into one plan and encourage NO competition. Woot!

    Vote for Puppy!

Actually she is a very cute dog. Please vote every day. She's doing good in the overall totals... keep 'em coming and don't forget tomorrow!
  24. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Sure you can, unless you're sliding down the slippery slope of "it'll eliminate all non-government options!". They aren't promoting single-payer or NHS-style systems. If they drop a public option, it'll essentially become a slightly-right-of-center bill. So much for "the most liberal government ever!" ramming through communism/socialism. Today. I tend to beleive the Barackus the Great who said be believes in the single payor system but knows that we will have to get there in steps.
