  1. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 07:22 PM) Brandon allen for tony pena (reliever) from the diamondbacks In actuality, it didn't lag the server bad at all. But we talked about it and decided that we would rather have the ability to cater to 400 people and not have the server lag rather then 200 and have that stuff on. qwerty, I do appreciate your feedback on this. What do others think?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) Your claim that government cannot create wealth is only true in the conditions of no excess capacity in the economy. When you're in a depressed state like we are now, and there is no room to stimulate demand, then there is significant excess capacity that can be pushed in to service by act of the government. In this particular case, the government is taking funds that are sitting on the sidelines as savings and using turning them in to investment because the private sector has fled to safety. It is actively working to enhance productivity by utilizing the idled capacity in the economy in the form of both savings and workers. Pass some of that crack. I need it.
  3. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 09:41 AM) But what happened if the dinosaurs ate the punch cards or stepped on the main frame? That's about how I'm starting to feel these days.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) I think you have missed the reality here - a moderate is not needed for the primaries, they are needed for the general election. And in that, I think its right on, that is what the Republicans need in order to win in the generals. The party has just moved too far off center. I also think your thought that moderates don't stand for anything is off base - moderates are not usually in the middle on everything, they have views on both sides that net out to moderation. And those folks make up a huge chunk of the population. They stand for lots of things, and they are the key to winning close elections. I think most people are TRUE conservatives, not what the liberals or Rush Limbaugh call conservative.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) I think her entire persona stupifies the party and its base, making her Bush II. I'm tired of the religious extremists running the party on a platform of pro-life, anti-global warming, anti gay marriage (who cares? seriously? they'll be damned for an eternity of hell if that's how it's supposed to be) and anti-raising taxes (in a time when it's probably necessary). It's too bad McCain ran into the Obamachrist. I think he's the type of conservative (moderate) we, the party, needed. I think you're wrong. If a moderate was going to win, they would have won by now. The pro-life, anti-global warming part needs to stay that way (although personally I wish the pro-life part would go away...) because real conservative values would dictate that. The gay marriage thing I've been quite clear on it, and most conservatives agree with my stance that it's a state's rights issue (and so is abortion when it comes right down to it). Moderates candidly don't stand for anything. There's just not a Reagan type out there, but if there were, they'd get a lot of traction in this environment of Barackus the Great.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) I don't know what you're talking about here, what does Pickens's plan to build wind turbines have to do with cap and trade? He said he couldn't get financing and had problems building transmission systems to get the power to homes etc. But this whole market is so profitable, ripe for the picking! Cap and Trade (Tax and Kill) is supposed to be the defining legislation that sets our energy policy as well, at least that's what the MSM is telling me. *breathe out* Oh s***, now I have to pay more.
  7. Go green! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090707/ap_on_...ens_wind_energy Now if this were so promising, why would he cancel it? He says they got off the blocks too quick, but I call BS on that one, and furthermore, he's seen what's in the Cap and Trade (Tax and Kill) bill. It's all a big redistribution of wealth boondoggle. PERIOD. But it's a "job creator". Uh huh, so how many millions of jobs are we going to kill to create a fraction of the green jobs?
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) They do that because people watch it. When people watch it they money which is their primary reason for existence. The end. If you don't like it, do what I do and just ignore it until it goes away, which it will in the coming days. I seriously doubt it will go away. Jackson is going to make more money dead then he did alive. The "VAULT" is going to have s***loads of songs that were never released, and this will become a chinese water torture of drips of releases to ensure he stays in "icon status". (Where's the damn puke smiley?)
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 08:35 AM) Between her book deal and the fact that she's free to take as many speaking fees and attend as many fundraisers as she wants, she's pretty much set for life, personally and politically. However, I don't see her ever being anything more than a cash cow (albeit a lucrative one), short of pulling a Hillary and moving to another state and scoring a Senate seat I can't see her being taken seriously as a national figure outside of the GOP base. And I hope that's exactly the way it stays.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 06:36 AM) Vic20 with a cassette tape storage drive. Yep, remember those well too. Of course, I remember those damn mainframes and punch cards at my dad's work.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 08:26 AM) Oddly, I am more annoyed with the Obama coverage than the Palin coverage. I agree that the media is fawning over Obama in a way that is just way over the top. However, in Palin's case, she's basically creating a series of car wrecks and shouting LOOK AT ME, so I can't really blame the media for following it. Yes, I can understand that point. With Palin, honestly, as I said elsewhere (hi lf) Palin cannot ever win a larger national election in Alaska. She has to spend her time in the lower 48 to even have a chance. You don't get to debate national policy up there, you just don't. You're too far removed. Between this issue and the RNC going to whore her out for all the money she can raise (ohhhh the puns, ), this, IMO, is why she resigned.
  12. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) My on-line history dialing in to boards ExecPC (Milwaukee), The Well (San Fran), etc. huge long distance bills even on a blazing fast 1200 baud modem > GEnie > Prodigy > CompuServe > AOL > Earthlink > ATT > Road Runner In some ways I really miss the pioneering feeling of dialing into modems. I remember flying at 300 baud modem rates. Well. God love that Commodore 64...
  13. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) I agree. However, that forces uninsured and working poor patients to the ER for non emergency treatments. A system overhaul that gets them out of the overburdened ER and into a lower cost alternative, would be an improvement. Yes, I get that too. You have to get rid of certain regulations to allow the system to be fixed.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) Smart ass.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) I call your "move the runner over" and raise you "2-run homer." Nice.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) Do tell. Ok, I'll try again. Every time Sarah Palin says anything, I think she gets more "press time" from the liberals trying to make her "more stupid" then she already was. Meanwhile, Obama can fart in the wind, and this same media will spend article after article talking about how rosy it smells. The point with Sarah Palin is that no matter what way you want to slice it, the liberal media does scorn her every move. Yes, she's an awkward little duck, but who cares how she waddles? If they would just STFU about her, the "conservatives" wouldn't have nearly the esteem for her. It's sort of reverse psychology in a way. The media attacks, the conservatives build her up as something she's not. BOTH needs to stop. The point with Barackus the Great is - you know - these golf outings... he's "cool, calm, and collected - such an awesome dude to be able to go out there with the pressures of the job and kick some ass on the golf course." With Bush, it was "why the f*** isn't this asshole in the office where he belongs?" But the larger point is NEITHER Obama's "cool golf game" and "Sarah Palin is the anti-Christ" should be covered the way that it is covered. I hope that explains it better. I'm complaining about BOTH - not just Palin or Obama. I think the media coverage is disgusting on about everything now.
  17. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) Here, they are the "won't treat you without payment first" Doctors. Do your job for free after 12 years of post high school education.
  18. http://arstechnica.com/telecom/news/2009/0...lready-died.ars Yikes. I remember it well.
  19. Actually - if Mark decides to do that, more power to him.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) The people who employ them (although not in all cases, I'm sure) do so happily because they can pay them s*** wages and get away with it, and occupational safety is not a concern. Don't like it? Tough s***. Go back to Mexico/Guatemala/Honduras/wherever. Pretty much. As I said. Worker program. And if they want to get on a list to get here the right way, I don't have a problem with that. I DO have a problem with them just paying a nominal "penalty" and they are BAM citizens.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 06:52 PM) From a 2006 op-ed NYT piece. Gets introduced every year. Exactly. I saw that right away and thought - why did this even get brought up as a talking point? Because it sounds good to mock it, that's why. THERE is where I have a problem with Limbaugh - THAT is what makes him a joke. Good catch, sir. I was hoping someone else would see that.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 06:45 PM) Mexico is 100% safe these days. Yea. Millions have to come here to escape. OK, I get that. But, they make the choice. And I would argue, they make the choice to put up with the s*** that they do there. OH WAIT! I can blame America again! Us friggin druggies! If it weren't for us, Mexico would be alright.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) As a long time conservative, I hope she gets the nomination, and I hope she gets crushed so that this ridiculous segment of the party dies away. No thank you. So what's wrong with Palin? I know what my thoughts are, but I'd like to know yours.
  24. Just wow. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=hj111-5 I do see one thing about this - let's see if you all catch it as well.
  25. These people make the choice to do that, don't they? Talk about jumping Kaperbole.
