  1. And it is important to note that this technique was never used. Does your liberal blogs say that? Probably not. Oh, it was a "comment" at the end. Surprised, they wouldn't include it in their blog...
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) Hey Kap, how is Perry? Do you think he is someone I would like? I don't know much about him except that he is a converted democrat and supposedly pretty conservative. I gotta tell you. I really don't like him all that much, because I think that he's been on the wrong side of some pretty important issues down here. With that said, he is a true fiscal conservative, and that alone makes him better then most. He was b****ing about GWB and the money before even Obama came into office. You also have to remember that most of the Democrats down here would be considered Republican in Illinois and the northeast US. They are all pretty conservative overall... of course there are some exceptions to that.
  3. Bar Harbor has some great food - the lobster is to die for because it's as fresh as you can get. The scenery is beautiful, but then you have to deal with all the people because it's a state/national park - that's the downside.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) Good god I can't believe the machine has gone into overdrive with "what if's" about Texas leaving The funniest thing is, Rick Perry never said those words. Yet, look at the flames fly. But I didn't know about the Supreme Court decision, which is good to know.
  5. QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) Again, I understand trashing Kerry, but why tarnish the Purple Heart? Why not go after the military for awarding Kerry? There are two ways it should go down when dealing with a decorated war veteran who you despise: 1. Criticize that person's offensive views/gaffes/speeches/etc. 2. Criticize the military for awarding that person (Kerry) who ostensibly does not deserve a Purple Heart, but a band-aid. The reason I criticize John Kerry is we had to be told every time he opened his mouth that he was a veteran and a purple heart winner. That's why I tie the two together, and other people did back then as well. If he wouldn't have touted it so much, I don't think anyone would have brought it up the way they did. It is important to tie the two together. It's not anti military nor anti purple heart, but it is against a self proclaimed veteran who wants to disrespect the military when it's convenient for his campaign (at the time).
  6. QUOTE (DanksFan @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) A lot of the Tea parties were affiliated with the Campaign for Liberty and also about how lame the Fed is. I am totally down with any rally against the Federal Reserve. Some may have misconstrued the points, but even if it was 250,000 nationwide... thats a LOT of people going out of their way to express their distaste with the way things are run. Originally I thought it was a bunch of Republicans complaining about Democrats, but this is the real deal. These are real people who are just sick of phony politics... cheers to them! I appreciate your comments. It's so funny to see people want to disrespect this.
  7. QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) At the 2004 RNC, delegates wore purple band-aids to diminish the Purple Heart award earned by Kerry. True, it was meant to diminish only Kerry's service, but the military awards wounded troops Purple Hearts. That is real support. I know. It's always different, but then again, it wasn't a possible commander in chief lying his ass off about the troops trying to get elected because it was "popular" at the time, either. Perhaps when John Kerry comes up I'll wear a purple band aid on my ass, too. Pucker up!
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) It's not the disagreeing with Obama that makes you a nutjob any more than disagreeing with Bush made you an America-hating terrorist hugging nutjob. It's the fact that there's a lot of nutjobs actually doing it. They're doing things like, threatening secession if the tax rate climbs 4 percentage points. In terms of the demonstrations being labeled as crazy people...well, there's a reason why. It's the same reason why a lot of the 2003 demonstrations were labeled as crazy people...because there's a hell of a lot of crazy people who show up at these things! However, the crazy people were VERY VERY VERY VERY few and they get all the coverage. And again, it's not about "4 percentage points" like you want to make it. There's the problem, right there.
  9. Texas is the only state to have a clause in their acceptance into the US that would allow them succession rights if they were chosen to be enacted upon. At the time, Texas was much bigger then it is now, the agreement allowed Texas to be broken into four states and those four states would become the Republic of Texas. It's not going to happen, but it makes me laugh that the real underlying issue of all of this is just dismissed and now, of course, anyone who disagrees with the Almighty Obama is a nutjob. Furthermore, it is funny seeing the coverage of all of this. The demonstrations are "nutjob, racists, homophobes, extreme ideology... ... ... ... ..." The coverage from what I see is "who", not "why" this was going on. Imagine that.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) I just don't want my kids associating with their kind. Its not racist at all *sniff, sniff* I will never get to see Mads or Lex ever again. Tell ya'll I said hi.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) OK, just tell them if they do the U.S. doesn't give them an ounce of military help if a Mexican drug cartel or the Mexican government itself decides to attack. Seriously though, Rolling Stone did a great series of article on the drug violence in Mexico going on right now, its worth checking out. You want the truth about that? I think Texas is more then capable of taking care of that themselves if given the opportunity. They've been told by the feds to let them handle it.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) Texas should change its nickname from the "Lone Star State" to the "Self-Overrated State." You see, my problem is I like Chicago too much to talk s*** about it. So here I am, defenseless.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) lol I don't hate Texans, but probably more than half the people I've ever known from Texas love talking s***, and they practically beg for me to talk s*** back cuz that's just how I do. My boss is from Texas, every now and again I like to blurt out "f*** Texas" just to see what he does. Talk "s***".
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) They are pretty much seceded in their own minds anyways... Texas is whole different world. You're just racist against Texans. And it makes me laugh all the "hate" being shown.
  15. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 04:17 AM) This thread officially made me dumber. Thanks for nothing. Ain't that the truth, and it keeps getting dumber.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) Ah, that's the 2nd decimal place. Figured it out now. No, it's an x-y chart of areas under the normal distribution curve. Just an odd way of presenting that data. The first decimal place is the y axis, the 2nd is the x axis. The area under the curve covered by 2 std. deviations... that's what I was thinking... right?
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) Actually there could be a bit of error in my answer, I just discovered that neither Excel nor Maple have the inverse error function as one of their standard functions, so I had to go to a table that I'm not totally sure how to read. It's just reading a std. deviation chart and confidence intervals, right?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) 2.4 to 23.1, I believe. ^^
  19. QUOTE (DanksFan @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) I am very sirius. I'm really just pointing out how stupid the people doing this really are. They think its all the Democrats fault, all Obamas fault... really it is the fault of many and IMO those at fault will get what they have comin' to 'em. Actually, I will disagree slightly. I think most people are blaming both parties, because neither party is addressing anything but their own self interests. People thought they would get "change" from Obama, and they've gotten the same party bulls***, and there's effectively no Republican leader, so essentially, "taxation without representation" is pretty much right on.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) This is the best coverage of the tea party money can buy. Too bad it's free. You know, though, to me it's not free. It is to everyone else except Jason. I stand corrected. This IS the best coverage money can buy.
  21. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) good info....as for the money its not really a problem...she comes from a rich family...it just may not be on her debit card today. Its just a little overwhelming for me b/c I do my taxes with plain old W2s and 1099s whereas now its K1s and other weird investment stuff so I want to make sure i get it right this time around... Send a check. All you need is the certified mail saying you sent it. Disclaimer: This does not construe official tax advice, only an opinion.

  23. Where's the little Iraqi dude at? We need him to tell us that their forces are winning.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) In this case, the specific discussion topic is why exactly the "Democrats are weak on the military" meme is so solid. The point you made was that you feel their statements are blatant disrespect of the military. Therefore, I contend if we're doing a comparison of statements, having Republicans in 1993 saying ""It's Vietnam all over again" (Fritz Hollings) is 100% germane to the discussion. Either it's on you to explain to me why the statements by the Democrats (I may grant you Murtha given how the investigation turned out) are significantly worse than those of the Republicans under similar circumstances, or I have defeated your point and it's time to look for another reason why the idea has taken hold. How a discussion does not work is...you prevent an opinion with evidence backing it, you're presented with counter-evidence from the other side, you throw up your hands and say "I'm sick of it". It really doesn't get us anywhere and it doesn't provide me with any edification about the issue. I'll take your side. How about Bosnia in 1998? How about a few lobbed missles at Iraq during the same time? Wag the Dog... You're right. But, I think the stakes are a lot different.
  25. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) Ummm, I just find it hilarious that someone tried to get people to believe that there was 2 million dollars in the stimulus for shamwows. I know, I know... sorry for the buzzkill.
