QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 02:04 PM) Paulson and everyone in Congress that voted for that bailout bill. Bush lied, people died... oh wait... This will all be GWB's fault, no matter what (or that's how they'll spin it, they already are)... Congress has no responsibility for their votes anymore (at least since 2003) - unless you're a Republican, then you're an evil f***er who mislead those poor Democrats.

It's a good chuckle, you immature ass clown.

Theycould pay out present value of pensions and reduce future value of liabilities in the trillions. Then, roll it over in another retirement vehicle (401K, IRA, etc.). At least at that point they get the present net value. Still s***ty, yes, but that would be a compromise compared to "so sorry, so sad" which is likely to happen anyway pretty soon.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 09:01 AM) Here's something I never fully understood about that. So massive government spending, brought on by the need for military hardware, is what really ended the Depression, right? So why couldn't the government cause the same effect with massive spending on non-military goods that will actually benefit society in the long run (like infrastructure, for instance)? That's what they are trying now. The difference is between then and now is we have WAY more debt to start with. That's the dangerous part.

I think it's very difficult to compare the New Deal to now. There's no way that the New Deal PROLONGED the Great Depression. But, I'm not sure it was the miracle it was percieved to be as only WWII truely brought us out of the Depression.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) This just keeps getting weirder. I received today in the mail, a bottle of some sort of male enhancement supplement (also enclosed was a coupon for 30 minutes of free video online porn). Oh, and seperately, a custom t-shirt that has nothing but an @ sign on the front and the number 00 on the back. WTF? This shmo ordered stuff with my credit card, and had it shipped to me. WHY?!?!?!?! Now I'll probably get on mailing lists for all sorts of "adult" niceties. And no, in case anyone asks, I have never, ever purchased any "adult" stuff on the internet. Ok this is funny, and at the same time, it's not. Seriously, I wonder if the issuing bank can research where the order came from?

I had a feeling something was up. Knight's pic is classic.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) oh i'm sure the Democrats will come up with new ways to be worse than the GOP I don't think it will be "worse" but I do think it will be more of EXACTLY the same - just different issues.

You're sort of making my point.

I said it somewhere else, but why even have a free market on anything anymore? I think we need to have caps on what EVERYONE can earn, in ANY position... no one needs to have more then $25-30K per year, right? I mean, we can buy food on all that. The rest of everything needs to go to the government so they can take care of every problem we United States of Socialisam needs. They can provide us government owned housing, government owned Yugos, government owned health care (which they decide when we need to be treated for anything), government owned sports teams, government owned kids, government owned everything. I'm so tired of you people who make more then me. You don't need it, you should be "speading your wealth" to the rest of us lowly people who can't make it on our own. Government owned careers, government owned industries (hell, we're almost there, let's just get it over with). I love this thinking. Let's make it happen! CLASS WARFARE IS GONE! Woot!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) When Congress first created the TARP bailout, it required that the Congress had to approve any release of the 2nd half of the funds, so the current Secretary of the Treasury could only spend $350 billion without additional Congressional approval. I'm sure you know where this is going. By multiple counts, we're up to about $358.4 billion pledged. And of course, Congress hasn't released the 2nd half yet. Laws...HAH! And for some more bailout fun while I'm at it...a few weeks back, Elizabeth Warren sent along a few questions to the Treasury about how they were using the money. Basically, the Treasury's reply winds up being some version of "Ha-Ha, you suck". An example: They're copying and pasting talking points to fill space. These people can not be gone soon enough. These people cannot be gone soon enough - only to be replaced by more of the same.

Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges
kapkomet replied to Steve9347's topic in The Filibuster
It shouldn't amaze me anymore, but the continual defense of the George W. Bush-like tactics of our incoming President being "defended" by the same people who constantly blast Bush for exactly the same thing is just simply hilarious. It's becoming delicious irony, to say the least. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) In all reality, I wish that the media would do this type of detailed investigation of the day to day operations of any governmental agency, the way they have the banks and auto companies. Working in the south loop, I have gotten to know many people who work in various agencies in the federal government. I know everyone thinks that these private companies are run badly, but believe me when I say there is no way that the government would be doing any better, regulations, intervention, nationalization or whatever. They are run even worse, with less oversight, and with more waste. The funny thing is that it was government intervention that caused a large part of this crisis, but still no one outside of a few bloggers is talking about that fact. I know. There is more money then these "golden parachutes" floating around some other places, too. But, no one hears about it because it's "private". Please. The private sector can't hold a candle to the corruption in government, but we don't ever hear about that s*** because everyone thinks that "business" is evil. This isn't Kaperbole , either.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 29, 2008 -> 08:56 AM) So I went out on Saturday Night with an Aussie Friend, and basically somehow he's going to a Debutante Ball today with a girl from St. Louis (don't ask me how). And for some reason, she brought 3 of her girlfriends across, and well they were a lot better looking than most of girls I have seen around in New York. So my question is, are all of the women in St. Louis this good looking (they were college seniors and all Cardinals' fans BTW). You better marry one of them in the next 5 months...

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 28, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) Holy Kaperbole, you were about due for one of these posts.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2008 -> 07:42 PM) Gotta retain top talent. They shouldn't be punished for the failures of upper management. Those bonuses are totally fine. I dunno, I'm sure there's 1 or 2 more I get every time I point out someone else's golden parachute. Fine. let's just have the China model where we all make the same, and are told by the government what jobs we all can have. I'm ready for it now... since I got fired, I've seen the ways of communism. I WANT COMMUNISM! Give me my house, job, doctor, what I can do and when! RIGHT NOW! I'm tired of the free market. It screwed me! DAMN IT, why do I not get a bailout?

This song was played back way before the Democrat nomination was settled.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 04:37 AM) I was kind of nervous as I was driving through Dallas today, but then heard on the radio that the guy shot himself and is in the hospital... Glad he's not out there anymore. Did you wave hi when you went by?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 27, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) It makes zero difference to me where it started. Opinion column in the paper, radio show, whatever. Its slimy. That simple. Now, if you two are defending it in the sense of "they should be allowed to do that", then I agree - legally. No one should stop them. My protest is from a personal viewpoint. Someone who uses that as a political ploy is just showing me how low they are willing to go. And as others have said, hey... if the RNC wants to keep getting the asses kicked politically, then by all means, continue doing things like this. So it was just as ok for Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to make the comments they did? And it's ok for a DEMOCRAT journalist to use the phrase? From there, it's called a parody.
-
This is one time I'll defend Rush Limbaugh. Since Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton didn't think Obama was black enough, and the LA Times are the ones that ran with the story saying that, of course some wing nut is going to satarize it. Always remember: John McCain is George W. Bush.

I hope all of you have a great Crhistmas.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 11:40 AM) They did nothing wrong, I just don't like the fact we were lied to at every step of the way by the Obama camp. ^^^^ Some change we have here.

Franken is a f***up of epic proportions and would be a damn disgrace as a senator. I won't want his stinky ass near the Senate, but it looks like he's bought his way in.

If this happened now, there would be some sort of conspiracy.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) Yes, that was GHWB vomiting on the lap of the Japanese Prime Minister. I just thought it was an entertaining addendum to a discussion of insulting foreign leaders through odd actions. Oh how humorous. One's intentional, the other is not.
