  1. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 07:45 PM) Tejada would not come cheap. Every time his name comes up, Orioles owner Peter Angelos gets involved and negotiations stall. In 2007 baseball economics his contract is reasonable. The White Sox aren't going to be able to jettison their junk to Baltimore and land Tejada. Nor will any other team. Think frontline starting pitcher and two other strong assets as a launching point. Which can't happen with this team - because they aren't trading anyone BALTIMORE would consider frontline starting pitching - unless it's Garland. For some reason, though, I don't think Baltimore wants Garland as they don't consider him "front line"...
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) He loads his bat quite a bit. I think he will learn to cut that down a bit and adjust. I am impressed with his ability to hit breaking balls however, as this team is about 80% fastball hitters. It's nice to see SOMEONE who can hit a breaking ball on this team. I do agree that this limits Josh on catching up to the fastball, but I think with some seasoning, his bat will catch up.
  3. QUOTE(Shadows @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) Do you take steroids? Do you know the regimen that people who are currently on steroids take? I doubt it. And I didn't say steroids do no good, I just said that they would be more likely to hinder a performer. You have to have the skills to hit the ball regardless. Steroids will not do that, all you people who have never taken steroids or only know the bad stuff you hear from TV have no clue what you are talking about. The reason they are so widely used is because people think they can take steroids and become a badass, which is not the case. With this comment, you tell me you have no idea what the hell you're talking about. You're assuming a lot, I think. Steroids are used (as far as the growth hormone class - there are many different classes of steroids) to allow muscle to be ripped apart and rebuild more quickly then otherwise would be tolerated by the body. In other words, work out tons, add muscle mass quicker because your body will repair itself a little more quicker. Rinse, and repeat. You still have to work your ass off, but it does some nasty things to your body. It certainly won't "hinder your performance."
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 05:15 AM) Tiger is amazing a player as I've ever seen. I've followed him three or four times and have witnessed some of the worst behavior possible, directed towards him. He has also rebuilt his swing mid career, and survived all the supposed distractions (family, boredom) that were going to derail his career. Could he be a better human? Probably. We all could. I'd take him as a person ahead of Bonds and 99% of the NBA. I associate most negative things said about Tiger Woods as either racist, ignorance, or jealousy. This guy is a GREAT professional athlete. Does he occasionally let an F-bomb fly on TV? Yep. But we all let an F-Bomb out once in a while, don't we? He gives time, $$, and heart to a lot of charitable organizations, he goes about his business, and he is pretty straight with people (the media). Oh, and Rory? He lives in the city next to where I'm at (Southlake, TX). Despite the Tiger meltdowns, this guy is having a good year. I've met him once. Nice enough guy - he just talked smack about the wrong guy, that's all.
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 04:12 AM) It's the server. I input close times (the first pitch) when I make the threads, so I don't have to be on to close them. And with the clock f***ing up, it's f***ing up my system. I'll re-open tomorrow's. Beauty. I'll find that script and install it sometime in the next day or two to where the clock will reset every day twice a day.
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) Yes I know. And I am in agreement. I was responding to a specific point about them being the same, when they are not. But because I agree with your point here, you will see I also discussed each candidate's unique characteristics as a candidate - political background, style, etc. Regardless of race or gender, this is the most diverse field I can ever remember seeing... governors, senators, house reps, mayors, actors and talking heads... people from all over the spectrum on both sides of the aisle (though no true middle-of-the-road candidate)... people from all over the country... people of different generations. There really is a huge variety. Again, who gives a s***? They are all cut from the same political cloth, and that is what I mean when I say we don't have real choices.
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) I agree with you 100%. I was responding to the idea that this was the "same old crowd", which it really isn't. The fact that both fields are so big still, is making it difficult for messages to get through. And the ones we DO get are the top 2 or 3 in each party, because the media gets lazy. What would be great is if both parties' leadership would go in about find a way to get their fields narrowed - like down to maybe 5 in each party. Some of these candidates could be talked down with promises of contingent future government positions, etc. These debates would be a lot more interesting with 5 instead of 10. Or, even better but not in the vicinity of realistic... we go to 100% public funding of campaigning, AND the press gets in the habit of trying to balance coverage of all the candidates regardless of pedigree. Yes, it is, as far as idealogy, and that is what I meant.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 04:06 AM) Put it this way....Mike Wilbon's description of Detroit as "Beirut" is dead on. Detroit is SO bad. It's been a few years since I have been up that way, and the economy is way worse now then it was then, so I can only imagine. You talk about America's armpit.... now it's America's big, hairy, depressed arm pit. I do like the stadium; it was supposed to be a revitalization along with Ford Field. Well, the auto industry has to pick up for there to be anything to revitalize... only time will tell.
  9. QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 12:46 AM) sox go on incredible run and its an all windy city series come october. Will you stop it already? I've looked at four separate threads now and you have this same stuff everywhere. Optimism is all good and everything, but to just keep saying crap just to read yourself say good things is bordering on trolling.
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 05:20 AM) I'm so pissed off at the congressional Dems in both houses that capitulated to the White House on the surveillance bills. There is now less oversight then there was before it blew up the first time - and these clowns handed it over to them. Cowards. I wonder who paid them off. Serious question. This simply illustrates my point I've been making for years. THEY ALL SUCK... and the Democrats just raise cain when it's convenient to gain power (see antiwar stuff and even this issue), and the Republicans are nothing but a bunch of hypocritical douchebags (we'll be fiscal conservatives, we'll get spending under control, we'll take care of immigration without granting amnesty (hyporcrite BushCO) etc. etc. etc.) and they all go to Washington and it's like the air gets let out of their brains or something.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 4, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) I don't know if they still do it, but I remember in some elections past, they would compile a list of how many tickets write-in candidates would show up on. You'd have a bunch for Micky Mouse or Homer Simpson, or for various celebrities. If all of Soxtalk voted Buehrle, we might push him onto that list. Now see, that's an idea. Except MB isn't old enough. How about me? The next election I'll be 35, just old enough to be President, IIRC my Constitution.
  12. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 4, 2007 -> 02:42 AM) When did I say it was just Bush? I just wonder how the entire US government can pay this explicit, obscene amount of money to mercenaries but not to soldiers who volunteer for the defense of their country rather than simply going after the almighty dollar. You didn't. I was just saying. Our whole government is so corrupt, it's unreal.
  13. It's always about the sinisterism of George W. Bush and his administration, but never about Congress. MMMMMMMMkay. Why can't people admit that it's the whole damn government? Both sides of the aisle? Because, "MY" people can do no wrong. BLECH.
  14. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) I meant about Obama saying "ignorant" things. The Pakistani situation is a lot more complicated than you or I could even fathom right now. Ah, ok. Indeed. Pakistan is a huge enigma. Has been for years, and really is now.
  15. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 09:15 PM) Never seemed to hurt the White House's current resident. And again, that's not exactly what the Bush people have said, even regarding Iraq... But back to the point at hand. They told the government that they have to live up to certain expectations, or we won't give them economic aid. Big difference, compared to what's been implied. You do have to realize that Musharraf is probably the only thing we can rely on over there. Who are we going to deal with? The Pakistani army, who will launch nukes at India, just because they want to play a little nuclear basketball? He holds power because we say he does right now. Pakistan has so many factions and issues - probably more then Iraq - but it's a known known as opposed to a known unknown.
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) He actually was considered one of the top prospects in the game at one point. Then someone got ahold of his real birth certificate. Man, you are on a roll.
  17. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) What's spinning about the fact that the President has threatened to veto any spending bill that comes to his desk that doesn't exactly state the terms he left in his budget? Because it's not that simple and you know it.
  18. Nevermind... I thought this was the comment about us invading Pakistan that Obama started saying. I should have actually clicked the link instead of assuming what it was about... I'm sort of torn on this one. I wouldn't "attack" anyone over that statement, but I can see where you can't ever SAY you're going to take ANYTHING off the table.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) So, Jefferson slips $10k to Gonzalez, and voila... You know, I could believe that I wouldn't say it was quite THAT malicious... but malicious none the same, because those government people needs to take care of each other, unless it's hate for the BushCos.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) And on another subject, is there anyone out there who honestly thinks it'd be a good idea to nuke a city in Pakistan under any circumstances? Obama is starting to really hurt himself badly with these ignoramous comments.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) Can anyone else possibly imagine a situation where the Department of Justice was so unbelievably inept that it could take something like a Congressman being caught with $100,000 in bribe money in his freezer and wind up botching it so badly that the Department of Justice comes out of it looking bad? I'm of the opinion that this was botched on purpose... you know, wink wink nod nod...
  22. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 08:51 AM) Don't get me wrong; I think that this should be political fodder, if political fodder means getting these things fixed. I do wish both sides could wait until the recovery efforts are complete, though. The main problem here is that it's much sexier for politicos to spend money on new infrastructure instead shoring up what we already have. As I said, with any luck, this will cause people to realize we need to fix a lot of these things. No, it's already political fodder for people blaming one another, not how to get it fixed. And it's bulls*** at damn near its highest form.
  23. First, family should be important. With that in mind, confronting is probably the best thing - but do it in such a way that is humble, not pissed off, if that makes sense.
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 04:01 AM) I am with you there. Some should be deported. Like I said, no job/family support, commit other crimes, and adios. Businesses that knowingly employed them, I have no concern for. It's the companies that received forged documents and employed these individuals that I do not think should be punished. I also do not believe we have to offer those that came illegally full citizenship. Perhaps those that follow legally should have that path, and possibly even their children, but we do not owe that to them. And let's make certain we have a system that ties immigration to jobs. No jobs, no immigration. Wrong Again. Come on Tex. Quit dreaming.
  25. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Aug 3, 2007 -> 05:30 AM) Today the House Democrats voted a bill through that would guarantee our military a guaranteed home leave rest period equal to their tour of duty in a combat theater. Currently, in Iraq, the average US soldier is given a 15 month term. They are then given only 12 months home leave service time. A change that was made within the last two years IIRC. With the new bill, the terms would equalize at 15 months. With the national guard, the home leave service time would be triple. (IE National Guard troops would see 15 months of service followed by 45 months of home leave service). This would force the military into one of two options. 1. Increase overall military size, 2. Reduce troop presence in Iraq. The president has threatened to veto this measure. The president has also threatened to veto a defense spending budget bill for the next fiscal year that would give military men and women a roughly 3.5% pay increase for the next year. (Because it's not the exact same budget he submitted to Congress.) Just thought you should know... Nice spin.
