  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) I still think it goes both ways a little with Tallon, as I'd like to see what Yawney could do with some players who are actually suited to playing in the new NHL. But yes, Yawney's on thin ice at the moment, although I don't know who'd take over if he got fired. Isn't Bruce Cassidy (former Capitals Coach) one of the assistants? Tallon is a little on the spot, but they are playing like s***, and that rests on the players - and the coach. These guys have more talent then they are playing with. Their system sucks. Frankly, I don't care how "talented" your team is, if you have a good system, you can overcome a lot of "offensive deficiencies". See Buffalo. A ton of Chicago's problems is because they over extend their areas of the ice, and that's on the coach. Watch how much they are out of position all the time, and then consequently they take stupid penalties because of a lack of position. Furthermore, the way they play the neutral zone is a joke. You can ram a f***ing semi up though the middle of the ice the way they cover it. Ryan Suter for Nashville moves his feet well and skates well, he was going through the neutral zone like it was swiss cheese. All you have to have is a good skating defenseman and the Hawks are in trouble because they've lost 2/3's of the ice already. I'll stop there. I could analyze what's wrong with this team for pages - and a lot of it comes back to the lack of a system or lack of discipline, NOT a lack of talent.
  2. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) BAH HUMBUG. IMPEACH BILL.
  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) Because I think that's exactly how it works alright. Impeach Bush and put in the guy I want. If he has committed impeachable offenses, I for one want to know that and want Congress to consider that. You would rather not know – or worse still, you don't care. Yep. I don't give a s*** at all. You got me all figured out. IMPEACH BILL (10 years revisited), that's my motto.
  4. QUOTE(SoCalSouthSider59 @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 02:49 AM) Looks like she's got 22 Grandmothers........ I'd do her in an L.A. minute........ Stop talking about yourself like that.
  5. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 03:14 AM) You would have loved Communist Russia. Sounds like your kind of place. They'd even check your mail for you before you had a chance to read it. But as long as you had nothing to hide no problem. Better yet, why don't you let me listen in on all of your phone conversations starting today? Just in case. You never know who's a terrorist. I want to be able to help my country whenever I can. You don't have a problem with that do you? Yep. I would have loved it there. Those f***ers were my kind of government. Radiation detectors were not targets of PEOPLE. They were targeting AREAS. Commie f*** that I am.
  6. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 05:55 AM) Or an impeachment. Yup. And that's the best you can hope for to get the "power" back. Can't win an election? Impeach the whole executive branch.
  7. This team has no sense of purpose or system. Trent Yawney is a f***ing idiot. Fire his ass.
  8. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 03:07 AM) I wonder how gung ho you would be if instead of Middle Eastern American males they were targeting the males of you or your family's ethinicity. Might not be as dissmissive and apologetic about wire taps and the like. If the shoe fits... If they listen to someone who's innocent once, and nothing comes of it, I bet that's done and over. If you have nothing to hide, it doesn't matter much.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) I think the Presidential approval polls like this are more a reflection on how Americans are thinking about the country than the President. Plus, this is kind of the lull in the two term President. I will make a bold prediction that Bush will surge over the next couple years and will peak at 60-65% at some point. Right now his supporters are still there. If Iraq is stable and a lot of the troops come home, there's not a lot (right now) that's wrong. That can change in about 5 seconds with another act of terror.
  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 24, 2005 -> 02:37 AM) Yes, Congress regulates and the executive directs it. I don't know that the sessions leading upp to the 9/11 force resolution are classified or anything, but the procedings were obviously common knowledge to the joint Congress. So I'm not sure I follow the logic of Daschle's criticism coming out long ago. It is only now that the domestic spying issue has come to light, only now where the White House and DOJ are trying to say that the authority to request the wiretaps is implicit in the 9/18 resolution, and therefore ONLY NOW is it relevant that Daschle inform the debate by pointing out that the power explicitly asked for by the President was denied by Congress (ergo, the suggestion that such authorization is implicit in the resolution approved in that same session is erroneous).. Or, he asked for authority to "reach out" and was denied, and did it anyway because he had the authority to do so anyway. Again... I'm not saying this is "right"... just trying to throw some holes in the blanket "it's 100% wrong" camp.
  11. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) To all the Bear haters on this board: Personally, I don't hate them. That's only reserved for the damn Cowboys. (Damn, I live in the wrong place for that, don't I?). I just don't think they are quite good enough to win it all.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) Tony and Wilbon are speculating that a reindeer will be involved in the celebration. If it is, I hope he loses his crank. Just play the f***ing game.
  13. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) A couple of degrees warmer and many shades bluer down here in Austin! Yes indeed.
  14. Today, it's 75. Nice. Tomorrow, we have a high fire danger warning. Humidity is supposed to be about 15% and temps near 70 with 30 mph winds. It's a tinderbox out there. Mid 60's Sunday, and 75 again on Monday and Tuesday. I think I'll go golfing.
  15. Even though I don't think the Bears are deep or good enough to win this year, I do think they are heading in the right direction - and if they can get just a little more offensive power, they are good enough to be in any game. Once the consistency is there, confidence gets gained. This team will be pretty dangerous next year. And even this year, they can make some noise, but I don't think they are quite deep enough this year.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Uuum, no. I don't make definitive statements and not at least elaborate on them a little. Oh, and the Colts are not a championship team. Now find the irony. I said that in my own post. Find the irony.
  17. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 07:07 AM) I need to add one oher critical point that would, in a rational universe, bring the war-making authority argument crasing down around Bush's ears. Today's (Friday - damn it's late) WaPo has an important piece in which Daschle reveals that Bush requested AND WAS DENIED by Congress war-making authority "in the United States" immediately after 9-11. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...5122202119.html So if Congress refused to explicitly to grant such authority even as they were drafting the 9/18 use of force authorization, how can BushCo. logically argue such authority is implicit in that resolution? This is critically important, especilly for Kap and anybody else who still contends that Bush thought what he was asking NSA to do was implicitly authorized: We know what Bush wanted to be able to do and we know that he went ahead and did it. Now we know that there was no misunderstanding as to what autthority Congress had granted, because they flatly denied him wartime authority in the US in the same session 9/18 session in which the Afghan resolution was passed. How much more spelled out does this need to be? Bush asked for this specific power and was denied this by Congress – which is the ONLY PLACE such authorization can come from. He then knowingly went ahead and approved the NSA surveilances without FISA warrants and in excess of the authority specifically granted by Congress. Where in the Constitution does Congress grant this authority? Go back to Federalist 70 on this line of thinking. Congress can REGULATE war but cannot LEAD it. Furthermore, where does a statute supercede the Constitution itself? Bush *may* (I don't believe Daschle here - because otherwise this would have come out LONG ago) have asked for authority, but didn't NEED authority according to the Constitution itself.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) ^ Quite of bit of comedic value to this thread so far. The Bears are DEFINITELY a championship contender. Like WHarris1 said, defense DOES win championships and with the #1 ranked D, I feel confident. And you're Captain f***ing King of "subtance". GMAFB.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) I love how people can just say this and not have to back it up with anything. I love how people are drinking the kool aid around here. They do not have enough offense to win. Defense wins championships, sure, but you have to score points to get to the championships. And furthermore, they play in a pretty weak division. And even more furthermore, when someone plays smashmouth football against them, they become Cubs, not Bears. Don't get me wrong, they are much improved over last year. But they are NOT a Super Bowl winning team, IMO. Last time I checked, the playoffs are a lot more smashmouth. That's why I have a hard time thinking Indianapolis will win. I admit, I'm a Colts fan, but I'm not sure they have the toughness to win it all, either. Personally, I like Seattle right now. But so many things can change, depending on matchups and what not in the playoffs. The Bears are decent, but not championship calibur, yet. Is that a little better substance, sir Kalapse?
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) For anyone who didn't see it, Crosby's response to not being picked was mature beyond his years. He handled himself with class, and Jeremy Roenick might want to take some notes from him... JR is a complete ass. It's nice that him and Sean "Turtle" Avery are on the same team.
  21. No, it's not because of any other team. The Bears do not have a championship team. That's all.
  22. Seriously, how else do you monitor the "potential activity" of these people?
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) I'm not quite sure why that would be illegal, except for maybe the part about going onto people's property. The government isn't allowed to monitor radation levels without a warrant? How do they monitor things like pollution, radon, smog etc without warrents??? Because it's the erosion of rights and blatent racism.
