No Tex, I'm saying it should NOT be about ratings and profits, but it is.
-
I agree... I was watching that game about the whole Mr. Zero and I thought to myself even Chimp Carey would know that. Stupid ass.
-
Tex, I agree! But the press, is not about the press anymore. It's all politicalized bulls***. THAT is the problem now. Your story on the CEO of the parent company of CBS "supporting Bush". Hell yes, he does. He's getting richer because of him - and NO, I'm not talking about his PERSONAL taxes, I'm talking about his business growing because of economic recovery - so what does that say? The "conservative" media is so successful now because they bring about stories that the mainstream press won't touch, so their news is "fresh" and "different". That's why Rush, Hannity, Faux news, etc is having the ratings successes they are, and the "mainstream" media can't get left behind, so they pick it up, eventually. In a sick way, it's a balance of one another. If there were "REAL" journalism now, all this wouldn't matter, but money has gotten in the way of it all.

LMAO. Kinda like that Seinfeld episode mocking JFK. That was one magic loogie.
-
The mainstream press only reports "conservative" news if it's a) about making money for them, or b.) it's about sex, which goes back to a) the money, because sex sells.
-
That is an interesting angle. Yes, they do, sir. You know why? Because otherwise it isn't news. The Swiftboat ads (which I still don't think have been totally debunked, by the way - I'm sure Apu can prove me wrong pretty quickly, be my guest) would have never been picked up by the mainstream media if it were not for the conservatives talking about them. It wasn't until about a week after the ads were out that the mainstream media picked up on it, because otherwise they would have been left out on "news". Why is that wrong? If left to their own devices, it's terribly slanted the "mainstream press" gets ahold of for news, and as we have talked about a little bit, it's more about the advertising dollars as to when news stories get broke, etc etc etc ... which is SAD.

And, while we are talking conspiracy theory abound, Iraq was the perfect opportunity to start a war to jumpstart the economy. Economies do well in "war mode" by in large because it cycles money through the system.

We went to the moon? I thought all that was a movie shot in the Nevada desert somewhere. I love consipracies.

Who pushed that? Drudge, Rush, et al. Certainly not CBS. Besides, that was Clinton's second term. It wasn't going to effect an election.
-
See, even back then they knew NASCAR simuracing would be a hit.

I think KW is pretty creative about moving guys. I don't think that is the problem. The problem is the wallet, as usual, won't be opened for one player, IMO. Let's hope that there is a big ass crow on my table for reporting day next spring.

The computer of 2004 - as seen in 1954

Hey you flippin' Iowan (see your avatar) - are we going to have to censor you again?

This from a local guy from my old home town paper - he hits the nail right on the head! ------------------ All that is wrong with American sports in 2004 was on full display last week during the Ryder Cup. While it's only nationalistic to pull for the guys wearing the red, white and blue, something startling happened last weekend in suburban Detroit. The fans, who turned out in record numbers to cheer home the U.S. stars, found themselves driving home singing a myriad of songs made popular by the European fans. It was the Euros, not the Americans, who won over the crowd. While players like Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke were shaking hands and signing autographs, our guys were stomping around the grounds like a bunch of spoiled brats. While Euros like Sergio Garcia and Padraig Harrington were hitting great shot after great shot, our guys were firing drives into the water and out of bounds. While Bernhard Langer, the Euro captain, kept talking about how much fun it was to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup, our guys were acting like they couldn't wait to get out of town and play in the next Doville City Open. The question has to be asked after watching the folding tent that was the U.S. Olympic men's basketball team, and now watching this nightmare for the PGA. Do our guys have any heart left? Of do all of our professional athletes now play for nothing but the almighty dollar? It used to be American to boo Montgomerie, one of the 12 European players who had never won a major, but looks like a bigger version of Jack Nicklaus every time the Ryder Cup rolls around. Check out Montie's Ryder Cup singles record. Seven matches, zero losses to all of these USA guys with major titles oozing out of their resumes. After watching Montgomerie kick our collective hind ends again in the Ryder Cup, it's tough to call Montie the best golfer on the Tour to have never won a major. It's time, after losing four of the last five Ryder Cups, that our guys put their games where their wallets are and win one for the homeland. How embarrassing. If I remember I will check it out.

I gotta say - I'm impressed with the Rangers. Oakland is ALWAYS firecracker hot in the second half, and this year is no exception. The Rangers took care of business this week and are only two games out of first place. Now that the Sox are out of it, completely, I gotta admit I'm rooting for the Rangers. It would be AWESOME to see the "kids" (see PAYRod quote at spring training) win a AL West title... Go Rangers!

Tex - I agree with your last paragraph. Your first paragraph is pure bunk. We don't have a draft because the "republicans" are scared to send their "lilly white kids" off to war? That's a terrible statement, IMO.

I wish. Smokescreen... Remember, they didn't want to sign Maggs for that kind of money - the whole premise is they don't want to pay one single player all that money. Now why would they let Maggs walk (pre-injury Maggs) and then go sign (I don't care who) another player with the same sort of production for the same money? I don't buy it. Period. I hope, for all of our sakes, that it works out, but I can't see ownership paying this kind of money to one single player, I don't care who it is.
-
Exactly. I cannot see... where the Sox would go after a Beltran. Too expensive. Pipe dream, folks, pipe dream.

Talked with Darcy's agent - in the email, this little blurb - can you imagine? All of these guys are good guys off the ice - I would imagine this was pretty funny...
-
that's a myth. Kinda like peeing on the electric rail. We ain't got enough pee force unless you're standing right against the fence. Then I gotta ask why you're standing that close to the ELECTRICAL fence anyway.

I vote we start a soxtalk.com political party. I nominate Apu.
