  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) You consider China's government to be thorough, un-corrupt, and good at taking care of its people over businesses? I have some toothpaste and toys you can put in your mouth. I promise, they're just as safe as offshore drilling. No, but everything you post is how great their system is, more or less, because you want the same regulations and government control. So, just go live there.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ May 29, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) Not if you consider the public option to be more than a word, and actually mean what it represents, and compare that to the health care bill, which does not contain the program that the public option is, in fact it is just a series of subsidies and laws regulating the insurance agency. but you are such a victim kap. Subsidies for who? No one can get them. Regulations? Oh, you mean set prices and set it up to where insurance can't offer anything but what the government sets up? That would be a "public option" without the "public option" words sticking you up the ass. If you want to sell health insurance, you will sell it through government regulations.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) I thought my side thought it was a big f***ing deal? I'm confused. Well, I'm bigoted, racist, stupid, a drone, don't understand what Barackus the Great is trying to do for me, all because I'm conservative. And the health care bill "is nothing like you wanted" because it doesn't contain the words "public option" even though the whole damn bill is a "public option" without those words. So, whichever arguement you want to bring up (the bill sucks and it doesn't go nearly far enough or it's the greatest thing ever) you have it covered.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 09:20 AM) Then we need to start fixing the bloody system, because there's no individual or private company that is going to police itself. When you've got corrupt cops, you don't disband the police force. Go live in China. Seriously.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 28, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) He did give up a hit which, if it was Jenks, would have produced 1500 "get that fat f*** out of the game" posts by people. Yea, I got it now.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) I wouldn't give him the job regardless, he's far more valuable getting the biggest outs of the game in the innings leading up to the 9th but just going strictly based off what he's done thus far in true save situations (and all other situations for that matter, since he's dominant regardless) there's no reason for me to believe he can't get those final 3 outs when play dictates he do so. Now I understand where you're coming from. Ignore my other post in the other thread.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:55 PM) He's too valuable in those big-out situations in the 6th-8th to save for the final inning of play but in future games like today where he wasn't needed until the final out of the 8th he's the best option we have for those final 3 outs. Ok, but (back to the other thread I just saw your post in) aren't you contradicting yourself by saying he can't close? What point am I missing?
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Matt Thornton has done absolutely nothing in typical closer save situations to make me believe he can't close out a game when called upon to do so. To be fair, I think you'd have to tell him the job is his and then rate his "pass/fail"... yes/no? It's a completely different mindset then being a set up guy, IMO.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:52 AM) In all seriousness, this area in NWI has some of the most beautiful and challenging nature walks in the midwest throughout our state and national parks. At very least the Calumet trail system is very nice, with my personal favorites coming in the Dunes State park, with some of the trails going up and down sand dunes with great views of the lakefront and even Chicago on many days. http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/files/dunes_trail.pdf This is an awesome place to go.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) My honest opinion I have come to while watching BP struggle with this is that Obama knows the feds couldn't do a thing with this either, and that is ultimately why they didn't want to step in. They didn't want to look like FEMA on Katrina. Instead now people are questioning why they have done nothing. I wonder which looks worse? That's also why my prediction was/is exactly right. He only put skin in the game (yesterday's spectacle) only when it looked like they would make some progress on (daddy) plugging the hole. Problem is, BP knew it and made him look like a dips*** (not that it's too hard). With that said, it can't be two months more of this. They better figure out how to drill faster on those relief wells because that's the only thing that looks like it will ultimately work.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 28, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) Says the guy who insists it is socialism writ large. Because it is? But, whatever, you all just think it's a little law that does nothing.
  12. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 28, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Why don't you ask Chuck Grassley how much of the Health Care act was written by Republicans, because last time I checked - he's all about taking credit for the bill he tried to block. Maybe if you took your Rush colored glasses off long enough to look at reality, you might notice that there are quite a few unhappy people on the left. Because Obama has been too compromising, and because he turned out not to be the liberal that he never said that he was. Then you have no idea what the law really is.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) The bulk of their uranium enrichment happened in late 2002, while we were building up to the Iraq war. No citation for this one, I just know the people who did the measurements. And prior to that, they had no clue... it was CLEARLY George W. Bush's fault, because that's all you know how to think or say in every thought that oozes out of your mind.
  14. DN'em... how much has your view changed in the last 18 months or so on this type of world events? It seems like you have recognized both sides in any dispute have many tentacles that usually aren't prevelant. Then, of course, out of nowhere that (a while ago not prevelant thing rears it's ugly head. It seems like you've taken a different look at things that I didn't see from you a few months ago.
  15. SS, you are confusing a couple of different things here, and that's what Jason got his panties bunched up in a wad about a month or six weeks ago. SOX isn't directly related to this, only secondarily so. However, the related accounting pronouncements after SOX were written in such a way so as to be SOX compliant. There is a distinct difference because the same rules can now exist without SOX. I know that's a technicality but it is a valid one. Now Gage can go get his panties bunched up at his wedding and not here...
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) I agree with your first sentence literally, since so far, he has been. He has extended offers and overtures to the GOP on every major initiative, and signalled willingness to compromise on things. The GOP has basically decided to be a brick wall. LMAO. And there's some ocean property in Arizona to sell you. The "compromise" on health care was for the DEMOCRATS, not Republicans. And it's still government run health care - the bill IS a public option but evidently comprehension seems to be lacking on this point. The offshore drilling was a GREAT idea, wasn't it? That was for Republicans? Oh, to buy votes for cap and trade. Yeah. Nice "compromise".
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 23, 2010 -> 06:22 PM) Really? How cool. Why doesn't he or hasn't he? He's just like every broken promise BP has given. He hasn't gotten involved because there's no solution. But watch, as soon as they figure out what works, he'll step in and act like he's saved the world and take all the credit. It's too easy. Boy, that was f***ing all too predictable, now wasn't it?
  18. Yea, Obama's SO compromising. You have to do it his way, or it's the highway.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2010 -> 07:52 AM) I don't get how its irony. It would be more a sad commentary on the prevalence of bigotry that someone is forced to hide it if they are. It just shouldn't matter. But, I'm bigoted because I'm conservative. No, it shouldn't matter - but I guarantee you that it would change a few votes.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) What?!?! But seriously, it would be some delicious irony.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ May 26, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) I still disagree that asking whether she is gay is beside the point or intrusive. You know what would be awesome? If she got confirmed and 5 minutes later she said she is a lesbian. I would laugh my ass off.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 25, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) http://blog.sarcasmsociety.com/government/...the-racist.html My favorite part of this is that although it's from the "sarcasm society," you will see somebody try and make that point while being dead serious. Guaranteed. Being the racist resident here, damn straight. (drinks another).
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2010 -> 08:55 PM) And you don't even take a second to think "Why don't we have an exact number" yet? Because, in the Exxon-Valdez legal case, the amount of oil that was spilled was a major argument against Exxon. BP has zero interest in telling how much oil there actually is spilling. It's probably about an Exxon every 3-4 days by the most believable estimates I've seen. But...BP isn't going to measure something that would cost them money unless they're required to. If they did, then that number could be used against them in court. So...exactly as you'd want, BP is protecting itself. And of course, you try to insult me for this since I can't give a perfect estimate, and if I said "The government should measure it" (They should) then you'd scream "Socialism!" Whatever anyone says or does...assumption #1 for you...BP's the good guy. Really? No s***? I've said that? Wow. What I have made fun of at every moment of anything you post is the convincing of every conceivable angle to make you right, and then the waffling that takes place when the issue changes. I have not ONCE said that BP is a "good guy" here. I also think it's interesting to note the mocking that takes place when anyone that opposes a belligerint, grandiose government that says they should be involved here. No one has EVER said ANYWHERE that there's not a role, and a potentially rather large one in cases like this. Yet, the comparisons of Katrina and GWB SUCKS vs. Obama is just wonderful points out the hypocrasy oozing from every liberal pore. In both cases, the government was caught with their pants down, only in one case, people were told to get the f*** out three days beforehand, but I digress. As I've said, and others have as well, no one knows what to do because this has never happened before. No one likes it, except maybe to say "OH OH OH I WAS RIGHT, WHAT A DISASTERRRRRR" I keep seeing pointed out over and over again.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 25, 2010 -> 08:19 PM) Socialism? Actually its capitalism. The US as a customer of BP's has decided they are done getting screwed, so they are going to go to their competitors. You don't say?!? Maybe all this is a conspiracy to make Exxon bigger.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) At the end of the day, China can't do much, unless they enjoy their people starving. That and having their dollar reserves become worthless, while they try to buy oil with them. That's the only thing that keeps them from doing it. However, it draws closer to the point where they cut bait and let 'er rip. They'll drill off our coast if we won't, don'tcha know.
