QUOTE (Soxy @ May 2, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) So, I have decided that at all future weddings I am giving donations in honor of the couple. I just can't justify the spendgasm that is modern weddings. You're not kidding. I have one more friend that will have a wedding, and I know I'll be in it. I'm dreading that. Then, I won't have another wedding until my girls get married (shudder at the thought of what 20 years from now will look like for spending).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2010 -> 06:38 PM) Then again if the government hadn't have put SOX, or Fannie and Freddie, or cheap loan requirements, maybe they never get into this mess in the first place. Nah, personally, I like that we're becoming a Euroweenie nation. But then, what will we call north american hockey players if we're a Euroweenie state?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Considering none of them would exist any more without the government... Oh, we know. Nothing would exist without our government. That's why we're 1- a nanny state, and 2- rapidly becoming a socialist country.

According to liberals: government government government government government and, oh government

This is clearly to gain two more senators for Democrats.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ May 1, 2010 -> 08:32 PM) Remember when George W Bush stood in front of the "Mission Accomplished" sign? He was saying that his goal to establish the Fourth Reich was complete. It's very clear to me that's what it meant. And don't laugh at me; that just means you have no argument. If you think about it, it's about the same thing. Only, I clearly have an arguement, but I don't have an hour to sit here and write a compare and compare.

Let's call it the National I'm going to be Offended at Something No Matter What Day.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) That's why you laugh. Because you have nothing else to stand on.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) You can't pray if you don't believe in prayer. Okay. Don't think to yourself. That little voice you heard, running through your head,... It's just ironic that you all get pissy about the government "condoning" something that SUGGESTS an individual reflect upon something but then it's ok for them to tell you what else to do or not to do.

Read the Communist Manisfesto and then compare it to what he said this week. He WAY believes in socialism tendencies then he does the free market. Redistribtion of wealth, power of the government and centralization thereof, as opposed to individual freedoms, he's all over that crap. I never hear this guy say anything positive about what's happening, only how we suck and the government needs to fix it all.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 1, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) Why can't we have a national Atheism day? We can. That's kind of the point I've been trying to make. The NDoP can be praying to whatever you believe or don't believe in, can't it?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) hahahaha. Man, good thing we have socialized medical care now! Or at least a government single-payer system! Or a public option! This guy doesn't give a flying s*** about the individual. He's a statist at best, Marxist is more likely, and deinfinitely a socialist.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 1, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) Please define non-religious or secular prayer. So your definition of "prayer" is religious in nature?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) It promotes prayer over non-prayer. It grants government endorsement to praying. No one said anything about a mandate. Prayer for what? To whom? This is government "endorsement" to praying to a religion? As opposed to mandates from the government to do something, say something, purchase something? Again, where's the line, and why is this such an outrage? (strange, you're not "outraged", I'm just taking the 180 here).

DRILL BABY DRILL. Whatever.
-
It's quite clear that people just don't want to believe we have a socialist puke for a president. But whatever - keep defending this jackass.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) Beef is no issue since I'm vegan but thanks for your insight. Quite shoving your views down our throat. You got some huge decisions to make. Good luck with all of it.

It seems to me that every time they've voted on this in the past, they've not passed it.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 06:26 PM) I bet you make more money than me so I'd rather you pay my insurance Probably not anymore. You know, I had to settle and take a big paycut thanks to Uncle Obama not taking care of my job. I'm one of those "underemployed" now.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) George Washington ordered every able-bodied white male citizen to buy a musket + supplies at his own expense in 1792. Yes I know militias and the authority to raise an army are specifically laid out in the Constitution but it doesn't say specifically say the government has the authority to order citizens to buy private goods either. (Today all those things are paid for by the government with tax dollars but I bring that up to say, yes, Washington did things that the Constitution didn't specifically authorize, so did Jefferson.) Really? That's pretty cool. Will you pay for my insurance, please? I need welfare.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) Back on subject...the D-Backs start a 4 game series at Wrigley this weekend. Protests appear to have been organized. LMAO. That's just f***ing ignorant.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 07:15 AM) It favors religion over non-religion, and that's enough to trip over the judicial hurdles. It does? Pray to yourself. Or don't. I don't think it mandates anyone to do anything, like say, buy health insurance.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) Yeah pretty much. I don't see any of those things changing anytime soon. 1 can be done, 3 maybe if we experimented with legalizing drugs, but that's not going to happen either. Just go smoke some home grown and post some more facebook statuses.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:24 PM) Uh, yeah, it was. Uh, yeah, with a LOT of help from our government "regulators".
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) First, that's how they're used, not my interpretation. More to the point, how is that analogous to violating an amendment? OK, some Kaperbole aside here - it's a problem when the government eusurps anything, IMO, that's not explicit to the constitution. So, the NDoP doesn't mention any religion, nor was that its intent. Yet, there's a lot of people who are getting their noses out of joint because of this huge over-reach by our government. Yet, real over-reaches of different kinds occur every day, so why is this a big deal?
