  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) Scary thing is Teahen, Jones, and Konerko have all been better than expected these first two weeks. At least they're getting on base, but I wonder if that's just a function of the opposing pitcher pitching around them because there are so many holes in this lineup. Quentin has to hit a lot closer to the MVP candidate he was in '08 than the way he has since he broke his hand. Pierre needs a permanent seat on the bench and AJP needs to be put on notice. lol wut?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) It's impressive to see the same people who say that the government doesn't need more power and that the regulators just didn't do their jobs in the buildup to the crisis rise up to attack the government when the SEC tries to actually do some limited enforcement. It's called the timing of it, Balta. Come on, you're smarter then that. This is almost ... (almost...) as bad as the UN speeches before Iraq.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 01:23 AM) it doesn't matter if they did something that was provably incredibly fraudulent, of course. Yea, what a coincidence that they annouce it exactly to the Friday before the Monday that they are going to ram home more piece of s*** legislation. Now, you know, this is supposed to be "guilty before innocent" here, kind of like those terrorists...
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2010 -> 01:23 AM) no i don't. Have fun with confederate celebration month. You have zero sense of history.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 03:15 AM) There is a unofficial sports rule that no group or subgroup can be called "Fab Five" or "Fab Four" if the team's overall record is below .500. This team is going to go 61-101 just to piss you off.
  6. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) 38 times second base has been stolen against him and 52 times runners have been thrown out at second. Only three attempts against him to steal third and two were successful. He has also had home stolen against him once. So in total he holds stolen bases to 42% and league average is right around 70%. That is remarkable. He has 70 pickoffs to go along with 37 pickoffs while caught stealing. Jose contreras has averaged 20.4 stolen bases against of second base in his career compared to buehrle's 3.8. Buehrle is decent you could say. Great post and analysis, q. This is incredible, actually. It makes Buehrle more effective then he otherwise would be.
  7. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 05:45 AM) Exactly. And we both know there is a fine line between abuse and justified spending and that line gets drawn differently if it is your team or the other team. To borrow your line "they all do it"™ It needs to stop.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) they came and did this to my grandma on her deathbed, completely against her will, as she had left the church 40 years prior for another. It was very offensive to our family. And I can completely understand why. It's not right.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) ib4 no u oh, wait edit: ss2k5 and others often have relevant posts. You just troll these days with one or two sentence non-sequitors or straw men. Eyup. And others just troll these days with 1,000 word non-sequitors or straw men. I guess it depends on your point of view. And for lf, the point is you don't see Democrats devouring their "own networks".
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) Seriously, kap, what the was the last relevant, meaningful post you had in the 'buster? Oh, probablly never, to you.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) And there is Presidential missions, and going home for the weekend as a senator. Yes. I guess we all need to scream about "Crawford" like "Hawaii"... and frankly, I don't give a s*** about either... but we have to make mountains out of molehills.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 07:13 PM) I remember reading comments on that article and people were writing stuff like "he just kissed his re-election goodbye!" lol... oh come on, seriously guys, this is some unimportant s***, and if Tom Coburn is not conservative enough for you, I don't know what to tell you. Like for real, you're gonna vote against somebody because he said Nancy Pelosi was a nice person whose politics he hated and said Fox got overheated with their rhetoric? lol... you shouldn't be allowed to vote, if that's how you treat it CNN got overheated with their rhetoric. MSNBC got overheated with their rhetoric. Oh wait, you never hear that from Democrats. That's part of the problem.
  13. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 10:37 PM) Aw, that's small potatoes. The church of Indulgences and 11th-hour Deathbed Soul-Saving Confessions certainly sounds like the right place for a ne'er-do-well like myself. Maybe they'll take me back If I ask nice. Yea, I know... it's just... so fake, I guess. I mean the whole damn thing is a charade. You can't take communion unless a priest gives it to you? Right. You have to confess to a priest? Right. They are the people who are between a person and God? Right. Anyway, tangent taken, but I just couldn't do it. But he wants to marry this girl pretty bad.
  14. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ f*** it. Not tonight...the brain ain't in the right place.
  15. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 06:45 AM) No, they are not. In fact, the entire modern view of ex cathedra papal infallibility and was only established with Vatican I in 1870. As a recovering Catholic (25 years guilt-free, but every day is a struggle. . . ), it's a real hoot to wade through all of the caveats involved with the notions of infallibility. . . papal Sacred Magisterium is infallible UNLESS it conflicts with or contradicts Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition . . . BUT a current pope can infallibly recant the supposedly infallible promulgations of a predecessor. . .etc., . . . It makes your head spin. And, quite honestly, it all reads like it was written by a bunch of geeky Trekies or rpg dungeonmasters trying desperately to logically assert and intellectually defend beliefs and viewpoints that are patently absurd and fanciful. Off subject, but then not at the same time, my friend turned to the dark side Easter weekend. He "converted" so the church will recognize his marriage. Blech... Anyway, we went to the Sat. night thing... wow, that was um... something else. I support my friend, but I could not be a Catholic.
  16. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Here the "other party" depending on President would complain about the cost of flying two planes. Holy crap, get off your high horse. Did anyone do that?
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) Did you see her entire statement of that or are you just zeroing on that parsed-out piece of a quote? (Rhetorical, I already know the answer.) She was talking about how decisions that courts make set precedent. Anyone who says this isn't true is either ignorant or is just lying. Also, whether she was selected based on demographics or whether she wasn't is almost entirely irrelevant, because like I said, there is no "one" "most qualified person"... there are so many that fit this description that the president can pretty much do that if he wants to. Wow, lf. Kool-aid? She knew damn well what she was saying, and exactly what it meant. And I'm not ignorant, or lying.
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 07:04 AM) It is with conservatives. *yawn*
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) I think my argument is...they're not breaking rules. They've whittled away at the Depression-era regulations so much that they're able to keep these things off their balance sheets legally, without breaking any of the rules. IMO, the only way that arguing we're in 2010 and not in the great depression is important is that the banks have found more high-tech ways to follow the letter of the law while still being able to get around the intent...and a key element of that is that they've been writing their own rules for 30 years to allow themselves to. You can argue that I've distorted your words in places and I'll disagree, but you've explicitly argued in many places that the compensation/bonus culture is totally unimportant and I shouldn't care about it, and I don't think you can disagree with that. But right here, as far as I can tell, you just made the argument for how important it really is. Each of the companies has been wiped out. The shareholders got killed, the workers got killed. The only people who didn't get killed are the people who took their bonuses and got out early to leave the government holding the bag for the mess they made. There's a huge downside in a corporation acting like that; it destroys the corporation. There's no downside for people getting paid entirely based on short-term gains to act like that, though. Anyway, thanks for replying. I found it quite edifying. But you want it both ways, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to say (and no, I'm not being a Kaperbolisitic ™ jerk.)
  20. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) I experienced phoney protestors trying to make it look as if left of center protestors were comparing the Prime Minister to Hitler here in Canada. There's always these idiots. I CANNNOT believe it!
  21. QUOTE (Ranger @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) I apologize for not reading the entire thread, so I don't know if this has been addressed or not, but: When Ozzie was talking about people getting up at 4 in the morning, I believe he was talking about morning talk shows. In other words, I believe he was talking about my station, in particular, and the callers to my station. He wasn't insulting people that have regular jobs and have to wake up early for them. Just wanted to clarify. Ya'll need to stop getting up so early.
  22. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) doesn't surprise me at all. i'm sure they have doing it all along. No way, those racist, leaderless bastards. They are just an annoyance who is undermining our country's "progress".
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Thomas, or Bork? Yes. Bork. Even Thomas wasn't that contensious (sp.) even with the Anita Hill bulls*** compared to Bork, and from there it's been totally obnoxious.
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) Don't they call the VP's plane Air Force 2? (I forget) I think. But the spare AF1 (which isn't AF1 when the president is not on it) usually goes whereever the president goes.
