2019 MLB draft thread
Hoese hit another one tonight....but it won't be in the stat sheets because the umps inexplicably called a ball hit off the scoreboard a double. As an aside, it would have tied the game.

Fulmer and Ruiz optioned
The problem is drafting college relievers in the first place. That's as low a ceiling you can get.

Fulmer and Ruiz optioned
And not one real prospect to bring up. Fulmer has neither stuff nor control. I suspect for him to amount to anything, they'll have to completely break down his delivery, work with him for at least a year in Az and see how it goes. Of course they should have done that 3 years ago instead of rushing him into the 2016 roster.

The Rick Hahn Haters thread, sponsored by Balta1701 and Jack Parkman
I just look at the Sox v. the Padres. Started the rebuilds at the same time; both had made failed "go for it moves" a couple of seasons before. The difference is that Preller mitigated his losses; Hahn didn't. That put Preller close to an even start with Hahn despite Hahn having so much ammo to trade. Then of course, he schooled Hahn in the Tatis trade; it's not surprising as Preller spent years in the weeds scouting talent, while Hahn sat in an office. And beyond Tatis, the difference is striking. The dismal record, the failed 2013-2016 effort; the scorched earth disaster in June 2016.....and being so far behind the Padres. Devotion to lifers, hiring buddies, failure to modernize the front office with analytics. When is enough enough?

Sawx @ Sox, May 2nd, 7:10pm CT
Delmonico can hit. Beyond that, I don't know.

May 1 vs O's straight doubleheader 3:10 PM start time
For that kind of money, he could have made an effort to find someone better. Hahn didn't even try.

May 1 vs O's straight doubleheader 3:10 PM start time
I think that's the plan...at least have him for next year with the option automatically kicking in. Wouldn't want Hahn to have to make an effort to find a good a first baseman.

Did they really bunt Moncada?

He's been hitting....hard to believe, but he has.

Not really.

Ruiz easily. Marshall did his job -pitched an inning in 10 pitches. Should have gone back out for another...instead we got Fulmer.

May 1 vs O's straight doubleheader 3:10 PM start time
What's inexcusable is that they ARE this close to the Orioles. This is a "perpetual rebuild" if things don't change. Hahn has either failed to build the infrastructure or has refused to, not wanting to bother since he has a lifetime contract.

The Sox aren't the Rays; they aren't the Yankees. They aren't the Padres or Phillies or Twins. They are a heck of a lot closer to the Orioles than to any of those teams. Today is not an anomaly. It's what they are. And it's inexcusable.

That was just wonderful. The relievers we have, good and bad, are going to tire because the best the starters can do is go 6 and that's on a good day. Fulmer is just.....

Marcus Stroman as a trade & extend target (don't laugh)
Then trade for young players with more time left on their deal. Identify players that you can improve. Paying market price plus sending prospects is no way to do business. Sox just aren't that good at regenerating prospects and they don't want to pay market price so they won't extend these guys anyway. Frazier, Samardzija...they didn't get the Sox anywhere.

Do you look at Jose Abreu at "32" the same way you looked at Paul Konerko at 34?
I agree. Paulie had a lot more capital built up...on several really good teams, 2 playoff teams and a world champion.

Marcus Stroman as a trade & extend target (don't laugh)
Here we go....good lord. He's an okay pitcher, not great, with 2 years left on his deal. "Sign and extend"....we've heard that before and the results are starting for the Oakland As. Sign as a FA if we like him then.

Jose Rondon needs to be the starting 2nd baseman
See if Rondon can play some outfield.

'Why isn't there a game thread?" - White Sox vs Tigers, 7:10 PM
i've got you both beat.

'Why isn't there a game thread?" - White Sox vs Tigers, 7:10 PM
Teams make their own smite: no accountability, refuse to use state of the art techniques, friends and buddies instead of top professions.

Looks to me like they are hell-bent on Alonso earning the option so he doesn't hit the open market, so they'll have a 1B next year without having to do any work. There's got to be some reason he's had one whole day off all season.

This is why (there isn't a game thread). Pure torture.

We should try an opener for Nova
The opener requires modern thinking. Cooper will have none of it.
