  1. Can we ever stop effing up these drafts? I don't much care for Shirley's philosophy of reaching, but we should at least be able to catch a break now and then. It's really the reason we're in this mess (along with doing very little on the international front).
  2. I like it. But the vets are still crowding him and others out. They’ve got to move tauchman, Roert and Benintendi out of here by midseason 2026, if not before.
  3. I liked Katz as a coach. Not really surprised though based up the fleeting glimpses that I've seen of his interactions with Venable in the dugout. Surprised about Santos. The Knights are terrible, but that whole place is ridiculous.
  4. Slater trade was nothingburger all around. Whether it was due to laziness, getting duped by Tampa or whatever, the Houser trade was bad. What made the deadline a disaster is that he didn't do anything else. Getz didn't move Robert, didn't move Tauchman, didn't move any of the utility players like Taylor. Didn't move a reliever. He didn't move Civale. Yea, he wasn't the laughingstock like he was last year, but Tampa certainly got the best of him and the overall results were worse than last year. There's another front office that usually naps at the deadline: the Rockies. Woo woo! A seller blowing off the deadline is really incomprehensible.
  5. I discount all Charlotte stats. Pitchers and hitters. Place is a cemetery. Flecher should have been up earlier. Julks too although he got more time than Fletcher.
  6. Yea, he’s not an aging prospect; he shouldn’t have been on my “do not keep on the 40-man” list anyway. He could get a contract for a couple of more years with some team if he wanted to still play. Good luck to him. I wish Fletcher had gotten more time in Chicago this year. He was an early Getz trade. He hasn’t been great, but no one else they’ve put out there has been either. Barfield must have seen something in him for the Sox to trade for him.
  7. Keep Fletcher and Baldwin; discard the rest of the org guys (Creed, Robertson, taylor, et al)
  8. I call ‘em like I see ‘em. Disappointed in 100 losses; and really PO’d at Getz’ lackluster effort at the deadline. Not as pessimistic as most, however.
  9. Out of those 3, 1 ace, 1 mid-rotation starter, and 1 high-leverage reliever was a reasonable expectation. But that still leaves several available spots. the farm should be pushing out some mid-rotation guys. Palette, “4-rounds” Kelley, Cannon, Keener, Burke and a bunch of others…. Are any major leaguers? Smith and Vasil are rotation arms, but still thin.
  10. I count 8 players who played in tonight's game alone who should be nowhere near the 40-man roster come December. And of course there are several more on the 26-man. Just a stunningly thin roster.
  11. Seen that half-inning a time or 2 this season....
  12. Bunt? Just play Fletcher. they are teeming with Hills.
  13. True but that they don’t is one of the big disappointments. The pen will sort itself out. Guys who backtracked like Cannon and Burke probably have futures in the pen. Same with some of Shirley’s failed reaches like Palette and Kelley. Getz needs to stop trading for org. and 6th inning relievers….it’s ridiculous. Also don’t waste 40-man spots going into the offseason on guys like Eisert.
  14. Some young position players are developing nicely. But isn’t that what is supposed to happen? the 2 rule-5 pitchers are bright spots, but most of the rest of the young pitching didn’t make much progress or got worse. All in all, 60 major league wins, and a farm system that is no better than average. Disappointing, indeed.
  15. I’m not all that broken up about the tigers’ collapse.
  16. Perez was a bit risky as he hadn’t been good since 2022. In the end, he had a good year, but injury. Houser was a no-risk signee; pitched well. Then Getz basically gave him away (maybe one of those rule 5 eligible pitchers will do something). Civale, acquired for nothing that the Sox were using, had an “innings-eater” type of 2025 with the Sox and they either couldn’t or wouldn’t flip him. All 3 ended up meeting or exceeding reasonable expectations. But the Sox have zilch to show for it. Can’t squander 3/3.
  17. It would help if the Sox would stop trading for declining prospects and use the July trading period for positive end. The #3 TB prospect pitching against the Barons was #26 for Seattle a year ago; their #6 prospect, part of the same Randy A trade, was Seattle #14 a year ago. Trading for decliners is lazy. And one thing Getz shouldn't be is lazy. He should be all over the other teams' systems, including his buddies in Tampa.
  18. I doubt they did. He's who Tampa wanted to trade, so Okay. They're good buddies; they wouldn't steer him wrong. But it's time to cut your losses Getz. Actually the time was about a week after the trade. And Venable isn't helping either using him as a PH Re Lee in the OF, even if he can play it decently, does he have the bat for LF? And teams are going to be on Getz seeking Quero and to a lesser extent Lee. They'll start with Teel, knowing Getz won't trade him, but bargaining down to Quero. They'll offer their most appealing org guys.
  19. Nice W. Was worried that we might enter the offseason on a 15 game slide.
  20. 0-6 v Baltimore. 6 game losing streak. Things are crumbling from a crumble.
  21. True, but rare is the player who can do that or make anything positive out of either .200 or 30%Ks , much less both.
  22. I just don't understand why the 30+ year old riff-raff is continuing to play this late in the season. Oh yea, bring in Taylor to pinch hit; Tyler Alexander to the mound. None of that is serious effort. A laugh a minute.
  23. If he's hitting .200 with 30% Ks, he won't be successful.
