That would be fine. He’s not a long-term piece. And asking for starters on contenders’ certainly wasn’t a serious effort in July. Maybe it’ll be more successful in December. just stop trading for AAAA players. That is not a market inefficiency- those players are not undervalued. If it was, Charlotte would be the most efficient team in the world..

What was essentially a complete non-effort at the deadline was the tell. You can't be so woefully unprepared at the deadline, like Getz was, if you are seriously rebuilding. It's really the same kind of player that's been around here for a decade. Not very athletic. Not a lot of power. No speed (they'd be last in steals, but for Robert). They don't seem to have a driving philosophy or anything. Just load up with AAAA level players and hope for the best.

How's his OF play? That's really where there is room for him, the current mediocre veteran placeholders notwithstanding.

Galanie is hanging in there. Is he an Elko? or is he a Vinnie P?' And within a blowout loss, Pallette had a productive 2 innings.

Jonathan Cannon optioned to AAA, Wikelman González promoted

Pretty rough; but so was his outing in Seattle. -
And, of course, Rojas needs to go. He can't hit, he can't defend, and his baserunning is terrible. And even if he could do those things, which he can't, he'd still need to go. He's crowding out auditions.

IBB to Garver? Oh my

Palette's stats may overstate his struggles; he surrendered 10 ER in 2/3 of an inning over 3 appearances in mid-June. Otherwise, he's been okay with 4 ER aggregate in his other appearances. Still, they take it easy with him: never pitches on back to back days. He's gone 2 innings a few times, but never more.

I begged at the time of that draft to not draft a pitcher, and particularly to not draft Smith. He threw hard but his stuff never looked that great. Rough delivery and lots of Ks on pitches no professional hitter would ever swing at. Paying him over-slot was just inexplicable. And then we went back for more with the comp pick (has Larson made it to Kanny yet)? I sense some hubris from the Sox about these lefties.

Would you be on board with a rebrand when Ishbia takes over?
GreenSox replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's just that we usually wear the Sox jerseys on the road. I should have said get back to wearing the road jerseys regularly when on the road. -

Yes. I was partial to the 1990 look; "C" cap et al. I think we used it just for the last year in Comiskey. At least get "Chicago" back on the road jerseys. -
I missed that event; was that post-deadline on the waiver wire? Didn't we also get a couple of Rule 5 Pitchers along with Mead from Tampa? Any hope for those 2?

I want Schultz and Hagen as aces. Well, you can't expect both to be aces, but at least 1 (include Taylor in that group). I am not eager for them to be rushed up; but by 2027, we need an ace out of that group. We need to do something about the OF. We essentially "punted" the problem back a year by retaining all 3 vets, so we'll lose a season of auditioning prospect/waiver-wire guys or whomever. Really, we have a logjam of infielders and some probably should spread their wings to play OF. And often, it's CF, versus a corner spot, that the ex-infielders have the most success with. As for vets, those 3 in the OF that we're stuck with are sufficient. We don't need Rojas and Taylor anymore. They are blocking at this point. Plus, the veteran has to "walk the walk" to have leadership credibility.

Adrian Houser traded to TB for former top prospect Curtis Mead
GreenSox replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You don’t need scouts to know that a 2024 first round draft pick is far, far more valuable than a failed prospect looking for a change of scenery. It’s beyond belief that Getz thinks that value resides in declining prospects (more like a value-trap). Heck, these players are routinely available for free on the waiver wire. And Tampa, of course, trades the real prospects to the Dodgers. I like a lot of Getz' work over the last 2 years, but a C for this deadline is generous: big-time grade inflation. -

The Dodgers got Tibbs, who is now their #7 prospect, for the rent of Dustin May and his negative WAR. Tibbs was the Giants #1 pick in 2024 and plays outfield. And somehow the Dodgers get 3 prospects for aging C prospect Hunter Fiduccia, from the very same team, Rays, we’ve been sending players to all year. K Lee anyone? -
Most of the prices seem expensive to me, but a few seemed cheap. And I wouldn't have traded Taylor for that Mason Miller package.

Why 1B when he has no power? Can any of these guys play OF? -
Twins weren’t going anywhere with that team. Moving them out for young players makes sense; they would have had to do it in a year or 2 anyway. They will take a small step back, but not a big one. I wish they hadn’t sold; also sad that Detroit was so tepid in their buying. The Sox probably didn’t have much to sell, but they have several that should have only been here for the purpose selling; and now that they can’t, they should be cut. I think that trading one of the starters (Martin, Burke, Cannon) will be a topic of discussion in December. If one of Smith or Schultz becomes an ace, Sox will have the best pitching in the division.

Trade deadline was all about the "superpen"
GreenSox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Really could have used a lot more buying out of these AL Central teams. Need them to deplete their farm systems during Sox rebuild. -
Rojas and Taylor need to be 1 and 1A. Getz has loaded up with another batch of what are probably organizational minor leaguers, so he’s got to at least give them an audition. He did trade for these players, as well as many already floundering in AAA.

Adrian Houser traded to TB for former top prospect Curtis Mead
GreenSox replied to Bob Sacamano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yea, it was okay; just not my cup of tea. Mead looks like the same player who's been traipsing through here from the waiver wire. Another IF. Can they at least cut Rojas to make room for him. But, yes, he needed to get Robert traded. It was even more important given Benintendi is intractable and he didn't want to trade Trauchman. We need room to develop the next generation. As for the relievers only 3 have real value: Taylor, Vasil and Leasure and we understandably didn't want to trade them. Yes Leasure: as soon as he gets his command squared away, he'll be really good and then we can trade him. Wish we could have moved others for flyers because we need the room. Palette needs to be up soon. Dalquist and "4 rounds" Kelley probably aren't far behind. There are others. And hopefully Taylor and Vasil in rotation next year.
