White Sox acquired RHPs Jordan Hicks and David Sandlin from BOS
Hicks has never had a good season, so all the Sox got for taking on salary was a prospect swap. Boston got salary relief plus 2 open spots on 40-man. Somehow Getz sends Boston a prospect instead of an org guy (in the tradition of Hahn and Williams). And then he’s using the 40-man for Charlotte’s OF (how is Hill not DFAd?).

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
Last time, we got a draft pick + for just a reliever. Call up Seattle and see what they need.

Good discussion of lack of depth in the farm system, especially pitching. We missed on some pretty high pitching picks. (and punting takes its toll – that’s me, not them) Law ranks system #8; #20 per ESPN

Austin Hays
But we have to give something. Shouldn’t be more than an org guy. Why do we want Hicks anyway? He has cumulative career WAR of .9 and he’s paid $12 million. Why would we want anything to do with him?

Meidroth could just as easily be underrated. He did nothing wrong his rookie year and he showed he can play SS well – that’s quite a floor. If they want to swap him for Kristian Campbell and dump Hicks, I don’t really see the point (Campbell was bad his first season), but okay. Sox being a salary dumpee and getting value (instead of being the village idiots like Shields and Edwin Jackson) would be surprising. We just signed Austin Hays. That’s the way to get an Abreu level player. I’ve seen Bello mentioned: he’s a mid/mid-back of rotation guy. That’s what Martin and Burke are supposed to be. It may not happen, but we’ll find out soon. Now Bello could develop into something more…only if they believe in something more, should that be considered.

Just no young-for-old trades. Now it would be insane to do it coming off of 60 wins and unwise to do it almost anytime without a top-tier farm system – but none of that ever stopped his predecessor. In that interview, Getz went on for a while about trusting other GMs – still naive. Boston didn’t ripoff Getz last time, and might be out to remedy that.

I guess. Anyway, McDaniel has a less favorable opinion of our prospects: Bonemer: 34 Schultz: 96 Carlson: 100 4 or 5 in his next 100 I believe Our drafting team certainly has gotten a pass in all of the reshuffling.

Taylor too, rotation-wise.

Keith Law January 2026 Rankings
Ending up with an average of average is fine; but the goal of a first round pick isn’t to draft an average player. One year you might draft Fulmer….later that is counter-balanced with Crochet and the math says average. I’ll take a Fulmer and Crochet over 2 Royce Claytons any day. Now we need the offsets for Collins, Burger, Madrigal, Vaughn, Gonzalez, Kelley (paid like a 1R pick) etc.

Keith Law January 2026 Rankings
I wouldn't be; we'll never get anywhere if high draft choices can't hit. We need solid regulars, if not all stars. William Bergola is a really good defender. Defensive SSs aren't that hard to find. Ones that can hit are.

I’m not sure what I should/allowed to post. But “Carlson is an electric defender at shortstop with an 80 arm and surprising power for someone who has barely begun to fill out his frame, coming into pro ball with a high floor thanks to that combination and the upside of a frequent All-Star if the White Sox can help him get to more contact with some swing changes.” Law List Athletic

White Sox sign RHP Seranthony Domínguez, 2/20M
Reliever, if keep both Rule 5 guys, which I hope they do. Otherwise bench player because the Sox have a lot of position players to audition;

Well, Acuna, Baldwin and Pereira should be out there most days. Benintendi of course. Kelenic, per some, has a handshake agreement for a spot. Korey Lee might get more time in OF – have to figure something with him. Sosa, and maybe other IF, might shag balls in the OF. Then there are Hill and the Tampa guy; both should be Charlotte players but, as of now, they are not. Could use a good OF, but otherwise, I hope not.

A $5 mill outfielder would just be a blocker and make things worse. Don’t have enough to get a good player, so they are entering “spending just to spend” territory.

The Getz trade acquisition that could really help is Pereira. He looks like a blueprint AAAA hitter – rakes in AAA but can’t do squat in the majors – but his major league sample size is still slight, so there is hope. The Sox gave up 2 major league pitchers for him, albeit back of the roster guys.

Has either pitched beyond A ball? I doubt either will be “ready.” But if they have the talent, which I suspect they do, hide them for a season. they are likely better than the org guy Getz will get when he trades his Free Agent middle reliever in July.

BA 2026 Top Ten White Sox Prospects
Should have gone SS in '24 and Pitcher in '25. (I say that because I really didn't like Smith ) Carlson may be good; just surprised he's ranked so low this soon after the draft.

Re the pen, I see these 5 as locks Taylor Vasil Leasure Gonzalez Newcomb And they need t0 find a spot for the 2 rule 5 guys, 1 for sure and 2 likely in the pen. For 1/2 spots, you have Gilbert who was decent and Eisert almost decent. I hope failed starters like Cannon get pen time. There really isn’t much room for Getz' $20 mill. in a rebuild pen situation.
