  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 02:20 AM) I hate Timo more than anyone, but if he contributes to the team, we should be happy. I am happy. I'm happy he got the hit. I'm happy we're winning. I'm not happy, however, that this hit will mean another few days of him leading off. That's why it's bittersweet.
  2. I get a kick out of it every time a pitcher comes out to a packed house singing, "HEY HEY HEY, GOOD BYE!". I love that so much. I got chills down my spine.
  3. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 02:14 AM) All you Timo haters have to be perplexed right now. Do you cheer for the "clutch" two run double or fear how often Timo may be our leadoff man in the future? It's bittersweet, Flash, it really is.
  4. Nice AB from Anderson! Way to fight off some tough pitches!
  5. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:48 AM) Santana Silva Radke Others Is Baker going to start next year? If so, then Santana - Radke - Silva - Liriano - Baker might just be the best rotation in all of baseball.
  6. Well, at least I won't miss the new World Series of Poker episode.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) He's gonna have a lot of strikeouts in his first few games, especially if he's playing LF tomorrow. Well, I'm pulling for him. He's not Timo, so that's reason enough to cheer for him.
  8. Well, he struck out, but still had one of the better AB's out of our whole lineup...
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Uribe's taking two pitches against Radke? That's not very aggressive baseball. It just seems like we're playing not to lose, rather than go out and make things happen. When he had Everett 3-1, he threw him a changeup out of the zone that Carl swung at. Go get 'em, Brian!
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:39 AM) Milkman told me to take a week off from watching the Sox, as they'd only drive me nuts. I can't do that, but I wonder how he's doing not watching the games. This happened to me last year, too. I know this will sound silly, but I just hit a wall around late-August where I need to not watch them for a week or two.
  11. I don't think I can watch nine innings of this.
  12. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) so......did we get griffey yet? I swear, if they lose, no more Keith taking the crap for all the losses. That's right, Keith is speaking in the third person.
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) And the fans actually like him. You mean when we were in New York, they weren't chanting "TIMO, TIMO, TIMO"?!?!?!!?
  14. Cesar Carrillo has really started off his pro-career with a bang. He pitched about 20 innings at A-Ball Lake Elsinore, struck out 20 with a 2.79 ERA. He's now at AA Mobile, and in about 25 innings, has struck out 27 with a 2.92 ERA. Looking real good so far... And, interestingly enough, Broadway has done equally as well at W-S as Carrillo did at LE. Broadway has put up a lower ERA, and about the same K/9 (albeit in a small sample size). I'm definitely going to keep my eye on Carrillo as he progresses through the San Diego system.
  15. What does Timo have to do to not lead-off? Maybe he can hit into four triple plays, making a record twelve outs. Damnit, Timo, you better spite me tonight.
  16. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) 1)Buehrle is overrated on these boards. Some people saying they wouldn't take a pitcher over him and some saying he's the best young pitcher in the leagues. Um no, he's a nice pitcher, but I'd happily take Oswalt, Clemens, Pettite, Peavy, Santana, Perez(when healthy), F. Hernandez, Dontrelle, Bartolo and several others over him. LOL, what happened to Mulder and Garland?
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:19 AM) Ha what? I didn't say I wanted A-Row out of the lineup or out of CF. He's very solid in the OF, but he is not a gold glover IMHO. He's made nice plays for 3 games against the Yanks. He doesn't do that type of stuff every game which seperates good defensive OF's from GG'ers. Yup. Having a Gold Glove means everything. I mean, Derek Jeter has at least one Gold Glove -- I think several -- and that CERTAINLY means he's better than a guy like Juan Uribe defensively. Right? GMAFB. Mark Kotsay and Aaron Rowand are the two best defensive CFers currently playing in the AL, and if neither of them wins it, it will be a f***ing sham.
  18. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:47 AM) Just curious, why do you continually use OPS+ to compare ALL players? Timo and Willie are obviously going to have smaller OPS+ than bigger guys like Carlos Lee or Matt Lecroy. Timo was brought back because Ozzie likes him and the stats show he was good in clutch situations. For a bench player, the batters should be well prepared for situations where there are runners in scoring position. Timo has no business starting, let alone leading off, and I would be shocked if he is brought back for 2006 (hell he could be gone if/when we get Griffey.) But then again Ozzie might want to bring him back if he comes up big in the playoffs. I highly doubt any of you would bash Timo's OPS+, EQA, or his playing time if he came up with a clutch hit in the playoffs. But I forgot, clutch hitting doesn't exsist. It just doesn't fit the model. You're right, I shouldn't have used OPS+ to judge a guy like Timo or Harris. I was wrong in doing so. Sorry for the lack of response, but you're right -- I shouldn't have used OPS+ to judge those guys.
  19. How old is Zumaya? He's put up some filthy stats this year... 143 K's in about 107 IP at Erie, and 34 K's in (about) 27 IP at Toledo. OTOH, he's walking a guy every two innings.
  20. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:36 AM) Oh I still threw those numbers right in your face. You gave me his bad splits in those situations this year, then said he sucked last year, I showed you he didn't. On the whole? Yes, he did suck last year. In your certain situations, he didn't suck. But in all situations combined -- RISP, no RISP -- he had a 58 OPS+. Willie Harris, heck, had a 71 OPS+. Willie f***ing Harris.
  21. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) But oh well. It doesn't matter. You don't like Timo, I don't think he's as bad as this board says off the bench. What can you do. Saying that is a helluva lot different tune then, "I threw it in your face" -- which is what you said earlier. OBP for bench players doesn't translate? Sure it does. If you know how to recognize pitches, it should show in your OBP, REGARDLESS of whether or not you're a bench player.
