QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:44 AM) I figure that they will go after Redmond after they trade Burnett. Its a total marlins move. Redmond? The catcher...? Or do you mean Mark Redman, the pitcher?

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:15 AM) They'll probably have Garcia out there in the 6th and see how he does. I can't see them pulling him unless he gives up another run. The bullpen just got up right before Berroa batted. Nope. Your definitely wrong. Your totally wrong.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:55 AM) Jermaine didn't have a chance at that. I don't blame willie though, to be honest he probably had that collision with Maggs running through his head. Not many 2nd baseman make that play, if any. That's what I was thinking, too. I don't mind when someone b****es at him for his performance at the plate. Rip away at his .285 or so OBP. But you're reachin' if you're ripping him for a play that no other 2B makes.

That's Willie's fault? I thought the RF'er is supposed to take charge and call him off, 'cause he has a better view of where the ball is gonna land...? Iguchi doesn't even get to that ball, but I digress...

What, if any, adjustments have you made since your years pitching at Providence, to working your way up the minor leagues, to the injury?

Roenick, Chelios, Amonte...

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) How come I can't see the post made by the threadmaker? I have no one on my block list. As for the topic of the thread... Hey -- while were at it, why don't we go get Eddie Belfour, too? I mean, f*** Ruutu, Bell, and Calder, this isn't their team -- let's reunite all the guys together from the mid-90s, huh? I mean, come on. Bringing in Chelios, unless it was at league minimum, would block a guy like Duncan Keith or Anton Babchuk or Brent Seabrook from making the team. Amonte is decent, but we need a top line guy, not a middling second liner (possibly third line). He scored what, 20 goals with Philly? What makes you think he'd do better with less? And Roenick -- well, he'd be a decent addition, at the right price, but I think the organization is looking for a guy a little younger. Not talking a rookie, but someone in their late 20s (perhaps). I'd like to see a list of all the buy-outs before I start looking at who to get, and I think that's Tallon's plan as well. -

Just finished watching the press conference... Some key points: -No home games on TV. Still. Wirtz compared it to a newspaper not giving away it's 'papers for free. Didn't make a whole lot of sense to me... -Hawks aren't going to buy out any contracts. Not sure what's going to happen with Thibault or Berard. -Schedule will be released Wednesday at 11:00 AM. -Pulford talked about divisional playoffs, said Bettman will address it. Someone want to explain that to me? Two divisions, two conferences, I believe? I do like, however, that we're going to play eight games against Detroit sucks/St Louis/Columbus/Nashville. One of the smart moves that came out of the CBA, IMO. -Bunch of new people in the front office, as far as media relations, marketing, community outreach, etc etc. -New ad campaign, revamped website, blah blah. -Tallon says he's not sure how close to the cap they'll be this year. They want to be flexible for next year's market, as UFA's will be at age 29. -New scoreboard at the United Center. 20 foot LCD screens, something along those lines. -Brian -- looks like I was wrong about ticket pricing. There will now be something like 2,000 seats for ten bucks or less, and 27% of the UC seats will be $15 bucks or less. Student discount still in effect. YES! -Also -- Tallon wants to get his 2003 draft picks signed, there's a deadline -- then the 2004 picks. Gotta make some kind of offer to them...? -New AHL head coach, Mike Haviland. That's all off the top of my head. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:30 AM) Why isn't Buehrle feared in the playoffs but Burnett is?? Buehrle>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Burnett. How 'bout getting some f***in' sleep, eh? I, myself, would go to sleep, but it turns out that my internal clock doesn't want me to go to sleep until like 4:00. That's what happens in the summer. So my choices are Soxtalk, or Jane Eyre for AP English. Tough choice, huh?

Anyone know how good the NIU defense is? My Northwestern offense, at Evanston, scored 27 points on them. I'm still playing the game, but there's about a minute left and I'm not gonna score again. It was a pretty crazy game, 'cause the wind was about 22 MPH and it was raining. I'm gonna win by 20, so I'm trying to guage what sliders I need to fix...
-
Weren't you the one who made the "Send Neal Cotts to AAA" thread? Yeah... right...
-
Jason, I like your thoughts about getting those guys (Vizquel/Eyre/Mota/Burnett), but I really can't see it happening. I've never bought the whole 'chemistry' argument when a GM is trying to improve the team, but with that scenario, your replacing basically a fifth of the 25-man roster. I do agree with you, however, that a trade for Burnett wouldn't send both Contreras and McCarthy -- rather, one or the other. I'm still hoping that he's sticking to his guns, and basically telling Florida to take it or leave it, Contreras and Anderson/Sweeney for Burnett. And, if we were to take on part of Lowell and his contract, Contreras + a lesser prospect.

People b**** about small market teams all the time. About how teams like Pittsburg have no shot at winning, and they're always crying poor. Want to know why they lose? Because they make stupid decisions, like not protecting Chris Shelton on your 40-man roster. The kid had a .962 OPS in the minors, and they don't protect him. And now he's in our division. And man, it looks like he can rake.
-
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) f*** Frank. His had a great career with the White Sox. But for this team he just cannot help anymore. He's more valuable as a PH than a Regular Batter. Everett should play a lot more DH, and Ozzie knows that. Yeah, f*** that .908 OPS he put up for us while not at 100%. f*** his .997 OPS that he put up last year when he was fully healthy. More valuable as a pinch-hitter? I'm sure as hell glad you're not anywhere near the team's front-office...

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) wow, get back on topic. BMAC is in his first year above AA, lets see what he does in a full year to see if he has "prolonged" succes Well, you do the same for Gio. At least B-Mac has shown the ability to get hitters out at something above a-ball... And that goes for this year at Charlotte, too, because you don't have 'average' stuff and strike out almost 11 per nine IP...
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) According to what? Cause the stats arent there. Is it just postive thinking? HIs performance last year? His performance in ST? What is your rating system. Based on the fact that, uhh, he's had prolonged success above the SAL league, maybe? Jesus H, I'm a Gio fan as much as anyone, but he hasn't even pitched 25 innings at high-A, and he's getting comparisons to Pedro? GMAFB. McCarthy has been, essentially, a two-pitch pitcher this year. Or that's what I'm hearing -- that he's basically only throwing a curve and a fastball. His success last year -- again, based upon what I heard/was told -- was based upon the fact that he could throw a fastball, a curveball, or a changeup in any count, that's how confident he was. Clearly, he's lost a little bit of confidence. Yet, he's still got a filthy K/9 rate, and is doing a decent job with keeping the BB's down, though not as good as last year. I doubt you'll find many organizations whose best pitching prospect has pitched only 25 innings above low-A.

Link. Scroll down a little bit to see it. Is Hansen good enough to pitch down the stretch for the Red Sox, especially with the state of their bullpen? BTW -- I posted it in here because I thought I could get some better discussion...
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) Brandon does have good control, but his balls hang a lot. He doesn't like throwing his changeup in the zone for whatever reason. I see him topping out as a #3 pitcher which is what Burnett would be with. Except Burnett has much better stuff. Don't forget, we also got Buehrle, Garland and Garcia on this team. That leaves only two positions to fill if Contreras doesn't get resigned next year. I personally think Jose will be resigned to a smaller contract next year and Burnett would be the perfect guy to fill out the rotation. We're trying to win now. I could give a s*** less about BMac. Your making this basis on what, six, seven starts that you've seen him? Whatever. I've seen it all on this board. In April, I was told that "Joe Blanton can't pitch, because he doesn't know how to pitch.". And when I said that he's pitched well in the minors and that you can't make a prediction off of four starts, I was told that the minors were very different from the majors and that his track record didn't mean s***. Well, Blanton has his ERA down to 4.68 -- not spectacular by any means, but pretty good, considering he gave up 27 ER in one month. I don't mean to harp, but I hate this attitude that I *sometimes* sense here -- "well, McCarthy doesn't have the stuff to do well in the big league". Apparently he's doing something right, 'cause it's pretty damn hard to strike out 94 in just over 78 IP...

So, since Crosby is a lock to go first, there's five more teams before the Hawks. The top five after Crosby are Jack Johnson (D), Benoit Pouliot (W), Gilbert Brule ©, Bobby Ryan (W), and Anze Kopitar ©. You hope that someone reaches for a guy like Marc Staal or Carey Price, and then, one of the top five drops to the 'Hawks. I like Brule a lot. He's my favorite, but it's doubtful he drops. Then, my next would be Kopitar -- he seems like a real good sniper that the 'Hawks need. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Keith, there are a lot worse here than him ... his stuff is mild by comparison. At least he's making objective points about the players, once he stopped all the 3rd person references he's making more sense ... I'm sorry... I'm just pretty fed up with Vizcaino. I mean, at least Shingo had a gong. What the heck does Vizcaino have, huh? But seriously -- with a team that stresses pitching and defense so much, I think it would be nice to have confidence in every pitcher. Or, at least, some confidence. I think I can say that about every other reliever in the Sox 'pen besides Luis... -

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Look guys NY Yankees absolutely have zippo bullpen, Boston pretty much sucks ass, and the Angels have Esteban Yan who might as well be 10x worse than Vizcaino. Can you name anybody other than duschbag on Oakland in there pen? Calero (injured early)... Street... I'm glad you've brought so much to the board in your stay here. "duschbag"... -

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Look at some stats before making such a silly claim. And, one's getting paid $1.3 million, the other is getting the league minimum. One was brought in to be a huge part of the bullpen with his 'electric' stuff, the other was brought in to give us innings. I'm sorry, but I questioned Vizcaino coming in, and I'm pissed about it now. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) Neal >>>> Marte Yeah, but we need more than two good relievers before Hermanson. While Marte hasn't been great, he's still been decent -- and I have more confidence in him than I do in Jenks and Vizcaino. That's why, if Marte does go, Kenny needs to have a plan to replace him. -
