QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) We still have 3 picks Yeah, well, you could still take a QB in the fifth or sixth...
-
Am I the only one who doesn't like it? I'd rather have a guy who's going to help you this year, i.e. Vasher last year -- have a chance to compete for a starting job. Reallistically, Orton has no shot of starting this year. I really would have liked to see them bring in someone for the O-Line, or perhaps help in the secondary. Because -- just incase we were to cut R-Dub, who do we have? Tillman, Azumah, Vasher.... and I'm drawing a blank...

QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 04:48 AM) You honestly think he is a one inning pitcher? Or you making fun of ozzie? I do agree he is our best reliever... one reason why he is one of my two favorite players on the sox. I think he's best suited being used for one inning, yes. Not to say he can't go that second inning, I'd just prefer him to go one inning. And that's also not to say I want him being used as a LOOGY. He ought to be used in setup situations, or, if the situation calls for it, to close.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 02:55 AM) No no no....I'm not singling anyone out. I'm saying in general. Marte wasn't too great today but he got it done. Phh... :rolly Marte's a one inning pitcher. He gutted that second inning out. Major -- major props to our best reliever three years runnin. And I don't expect that to change this year, either.

Anyone real good still left on the board? I've switched over to the Sox game for good now. And, where did that Mathis kid go?

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) I respect your opinion, but Texas plays a total gimmick offense with Young in the shotgun nearly every play this season. Tell me one thing that Benson does that is better than the typical NFL running back? Personally, I thought Thomas Jones was pretty solid last season in a terrible offense in which teams knew that the passing game couldn't beat them. And yet he broke down halfway through the year. When Thomas Jones puts it all together for one season, let me know. Benson put up the best numbers out of the three backs -- Caddy, Brown, and Benson. I could see you guys being upset about not having Mike Williams, but that's not to say Benson isn't a solid player.
-
Benson is not an average NFL back... He was the most proven out of the three backs in college. And he's so much better than Thomas Jones...

Addy -- get your ass in the chatroom!

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) The San Francisco 49ers are now on the clock

3 Minutes until the 49ers are officially on the clock!!!!

Addy, I'm pumped. I just turned on NFL Network, and they were talking about the fourth pick -- it seems that Lovie Smith is in love with Cedric Benson, and Jerry Angelo is in love with Mike Williams. From the looks of things, it seems that the Bears like... Williams > Edwards Benson > Brown > Caddy.
-
Just from hearing Angelo talk, it seems like he likes Williams more than Edwards...

On the Score, Zach Zaidman (sp?) has said that if the Cardinals select a defensive player, there's a good possibility Travis Henry is traded to 'Zona.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 05:40 AM) Ozuna isn't getting any playing time so it's not like you can know how he would perform. Besides, Crede WAS sucking when I wanted to see Ozuna at 3rd base. Many other posters were suggesting the same thing in chat. By the way, it's 17 games into the season. Are you predicting that Crede will keep this up for the entire season? I sure hope he does but I wouldn't bet my life savings on it. No, I don't think Crede will keep it up the whole season. I'm just saying it was silly to think that Ozuna was the solution. At least, IMHO.
-
Linky That makes two young Athletics inked through their arbitration years in Harden and Crosby. Pretty good deal. Hopefully Crosby can bounce back from his injury.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) Excellent post. People here want to say, "I told you so" when it comes to Crede but that's all a bunch of crap. If you just say that every Sox player is good, even when they are sucking, you will always be right once they start performing the way they are supposed to. I don't see how it's any different from you praising Ozuna after a hot spring, and even suggesting that he be our starting 3rd-baseman to replace Crede...

QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 05:01 AM) I don't think it's just tonight's good game. He certainly doesn't look like a .244 hitter so far, and has 9 SB's in 12 games. He only has 3 strike outs in almost 50 AB's. You can't deny he's done a fine job of helping us manufacture some runs. Hell, we don't win yesterday's game if it wasn't for him. Maybe some of us are glorifying him too much before he hits a probable offensive regression, but I don't think you need to call anyone out on it. He's brought a new dynamic to the club that's helped us climb quickly to the top of our division. Plus, he did talk about trying to draw more walks and slap the ball around like he did in '03 rather than hit for power, i.e. his '04 season -- which, in turn, resulted in less walks, worse average (I hope, at least). Anyways -- most of the time when a hitter says that, it's all talk -- they get into the season and about ten games in, they're back to their old ways. But it's clear that Pods isn't trying to hit homers. I'm hoping that we'll see a lot more days like yesterday -- 1-2, 1-3, but with two-three walks. I realize he's not gonna walk three times a game, but it's nice to see the effort that's clearly being put forth -- at least, IMHO.

Awesome! Two people now who can give live reports about how our Barons are doing... Manny, I hope to see you post a little more, live inputs would be greatly appreciated by a whole bunch of us here. Yours and BB's eyes are really our only source of a 'beyond the box score' perspective, and any input you have would be, like I said, greatly appreciated.

Apparently, the new nickname for Crede is "The Comet", as suggested by a former schoolmate of Crede's on Mac, Jerko, and Harry show. The question is, will it stick?

Redskins interested in Bears #4 pick

Then why might Johnson fall to Detroit at #10? Ray Lewis is the type of player that can single-handedly change a game. And I realize that you can say that about a few of the WR's/RB's in the draft, too. I dunno, I guess I'd think that a player who people are comparing to Ray Lewis would be thought of a little higher... -
The question so obvious that noone thought to ask

Badger, do you know why Brown played behind Caddy? Was it attitude problems? Or, did the Auburn head coach just flat out like Cadillac more? -

Tru, we don't need Ware. We already have Brown/Haynes/Ogunlye on the ends. Then again, I might be thinking of the wrong guy, but isn't Ware good enough to where he can adjust to playing OLB? If we do go that route -- and trade to get the #9 and #25 and an extra pick, I'd love to grab Derrick Johnson there... And then grab your WR/TE at #25. Please, someone tell me that I'm a f***ing nut for liking Johnson so damn much. Someone, please... -
I'm not fealin' drafty, but I'm feelin' drafty. I'm just teasin...

And there's the brain behind this team. This is exactly what Kenny and Ozzie meant behind building this team. They didn't hit a homerun today, all seven scored via singles/sac flies/errors. Yet, the next night, they'll score all their runs via the longball. I think this is the 'balance' that Kenny likes to talk about. Whether or not this will work -- well, it's worked so far. And it's good to see that we aren't relying on four guys, and living and dying by those four guys. No complaining here.

Nice job, Freddy! Excellent job, Scott! Keep it up, Sox! And that was the most dull last-play of the game call by Hawk that I've ever heard.
