Thanks for the report, Jason and Randar. After looking at his K's and BB's, I'm a little hesitant too -- 19 BB's in 40 IP (while a very small sample size) is certainly too much. If you guys have a moment, can you comment on any of the following (other college pitchers)? Luke Hochevar, Tennessee. Craig Hansen, St. Johns. Cesar Ramos, L-Beach-State. Cesar Carillo, Miami Ryan Mullins, Vandy. Joey Devine, NC State. J Brent Cox, Texas. I know that's a long list, but comments on any of them would be appreciated. I chose these specific guys because they all had pretty sick K/BB ratios -- all of them seem to have good control, but I'm only looking at a statline -- you guys know a s***load more about their stuff and everything else about them. Hochevar's put up sick numbers, but would I be correct in saying he won't last till 15? Ramos might, though -- would he be a wise choice at 15? I know it's early to tell, and I'm throwing a lot at you, but if you could answer a couple of them, I'd appreciate it a lot.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Better than he did last year. His fastball was popping at 93-94 MPH. And the way he throws it (meaning, his quick realease and motion) -- if he's at 93-94 MPH for real -- that probably looks 96-97 to the hitter. Boy, if he can refine an offspeed pitch this year, he's gonna be one hell of a pitcher.

Steff, I really hope you don't explode tonight. I don't think many people are remotely realizing that Willie could have hit a homerun there, and you still would have found something wrong with it...

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Who was charging and where was he? And were the runners off on the pitch? Wickman charged in, and I assume that Boone was playing in a bit, too -- but the camera angle really only showed Wickman and Martinez. When the ball was layed down, (someone here said) Martinez pointed to first almost right away. Harris would have been out at first, leaving runners on second and third, with one out, but like it's been said, Wick couldn't pick up the ball, so there was no play. EDIT: And I assume that the runners were not off, but basically taking short steps and leading towards their respective bases (Aaron to third, AJ to second) -- but I don't think they were off. Like I said, I doubt they get Aaron if they throw. Actually, I'll put it this way -- Wick might have been able to make a play at third, but it would have taken a perfect grab, spin, and a hard-accurate throw to third -- a play that the best, athletic pitchers might make, but probably even them still go to first. And, we're talking about Wickman here...

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) For those of us who couldn't watch the game, can someone describe Willie's bunt play? Were the runners off on the pitch, which fielders were charging, where were they, where was the pitch located, anything else interesting? I'm having a hard time understanding how the play worked. Runners on first and second (Rowand) on second. The pitch was up and away (IIRC), and Harris put the bunt down, a little less than halfway between the mound and home plate. It would have been a close play at third, but Wick decided to go to first, but he bobbled it, and there was no play. Harris would have been out at first, but I still thought it was a nice play.

Does anyone know if a balk factors into one's ERA? Never thought about that, but I'm curious... EDIT: I'd assume that the answer is yes...?

QUOTE(Beastly @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) It was an IBB. But if he can't get the best hitter out for the Indians, how the hell are we going to beat the Yankees and their best hitter(S). Ok, so because Marte didn't get Hafner out today, that means Marte will never get anyone else's best hitters out the rest of the year? :banghead

QUOTE(Beastly @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) I'm happy we won and all but... If we can't hit during the game, how are we going to win...it doesn't take 1 inning to win, it takes 9 innings. I'm satisfied with the 9th, but I'm not satisfied with Marte. He looked off today. And I'm not satisfied with what I saw in the other 8 innings...pitching was great, but if you don't give some insurance runs to your pitchers, you will lose ball games. Overall great effort and win today. Because Marte gave up one hit to the Indians' best hitter, you're not satisfied with him? Be glad he didn't give up another hit to Martinez, he did a nice job of getting him out (or didn't they IBB Martinez -- either way, Marte got the job done).

Props to the pitching -- Garcia, Vizcaino, Cottsy, Marte, all the way around -- 3 runs for the Cleveland offense, I'm f***ing estatic. How about a sweep tomorrow, huh fellas?

f*** YEAH WILLIAM!

SAFE YES!!!!

Come on Willie!

AJ Pieryznski IBB. Timo Perez up next. OK Timo, you can get a one week repreave (sp?) if you can get a ball to the right side, but it has to be a fly ball. No if's, ands, or buts.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) NOW WE NEED TO PLAY SMALLBALL You damn right. Groundball, right side. Get the job done, AJ!

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) This is exactly what kills Marte. FILTHY FILTHY STUFF. But he gets behind the count. Then gets hurt. That run was huge. If it wasnt for that and the balk this would of been 1-0. Now we will have our power hitters trying to park ones onto the concourse instead of getting on. Gotta get a good start. Hopefully Carl can draw a leadoff walk, then just keep the line moving...

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) Its funny that you mention the team ERA Mreye, but why is it that everyone freaked out about how bad Freddy pitched at first, then once he started cruising it got quiet, then everyone moved onto the offense... The Sox pitching has been incredible so far, which was the main thing everyone seemed to be scared of, but no one seems to care. Everyone has said the offense will be fine, but is freaking out about it. Why all of the negative focus? Personally, SS2K, I've been really worried about the offense since before the season -- I have much more faith in our staff/bullpen than in our offense. It's just simple -- we lose two guys who gave us (around) 60/200 each year, and have replaced them with guys who will give us 45 (being nice there)/115. I realize we upgraded at C/2B, but it's going to be real hard to replace what Carlos and Mags gave us. 3-0 on a Hafner double.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) Belliard steals 2nd base. Pierzynski has no arm. Meh -- you gotta admit, even Pudge didn't have much of a chance there. Marte sucks at holding runners on, but I'll take that with how well he usually pitches...

Ugh. Crede hits a nubber, five outs to make some noise....
