  1. While I don't have stats in front of me -- this is coming from an opinion of someone who watched a lot of games last season (though feel free to disagree, I'm sure you watched as many as I did, if not more): Harris was one of the better players on our team at working the count. That's just what I thought, he did a real good job of just working the count -- I rarely remember him swinging at the first pitch. JMHO...
  2. Wow... What an awful call. Absolutely terrible...
  3. Good post, Jeremy. What I'd like to see them do, if they don't bring in Miguel Cairo, is platoon Harris/Valdez at second base. While Valdez isn't an ideal platoon guy, you have to think that he can hit LHP's better than Harris. Harris is definitely fine against RHP's, just like everyone has already said -- just gotta find a platoon guy who can LHP's equally well.
  4. Ditto. If you don't care about the minor league system, no need to spew your crap around to those who really do give a damn about this team's system... Dan...
  5. OK -- I need a suggestion here, so for all the avid X-Boxers, I can use some help here. I want to buy a quality game for X-Box, preferably a realistic shooter type game, but I dont know which one to buy. I see that a ton of these WW2 games are out, and there's so many of them, I really don't know which one to buy. I already have Halo 2, and for whatever reason, I can't get into it. While multiplayer is really fun, I can't get into the single-player. I'm planning on purchasing this new paintball game that's coming out -- it's new, and X-Box Live compatable -- forgot the name of it right now, but it's only 30 bucks at Best Buy, so that's pretty tight. Anyways, any suggestions? By next year, the PS2 will have gathered dust, as starting with MVP 2005, all of my sports games will now be played on X-Box, rather than PS2. One more thing -- has anyone ever tried getting the music onto the X-Box, and how do you do so? I assume you need what a Sharkport is to the PS2, or something that will connect to your computer, correct?
  6. So -- because you like him, there's no need to upgrade at that spot? There's a reason Burke only has 133 major league at bats in his career. Like Jim's been saying, Burke is damn good in his role -- a 25th man on the roster, who can catch Buehrle every fifth day.
  7. Which of the ones above have been your favorite offseason move, and why? Did you like the player that we signed/acquired, or did you simply like the move because it shored up a hole? I'll say my favorite move has been the signing of El Duque. I really like it now, because we have five starters who, on any given night, can go out and absolutely dominate a game. We have the two mental midgets at the end of the rotation, but I think with four out of our five starters (providing Hernandez stays fairly healthy), we basically know what we're going to get out of them. Contreras being the obvious wild card -- but I think we'll get just about half-and-half from him, ten starts or so where he absolutely dominates, and then ten starts where he really loses it -- the rest, somewhere in between. I also put the hypothetical's up there, because I know a lot of you would have a really happy New Year if one of Pierz/Zaun/Cora/Cairo were wearing a White Sox jersey in the near future... Tell me, whatta ya think?
  8. If it comes down to it, what we might be able to do is platoon Harris and Valdez at second base. I have to think that Valdez would be able to hit left handed pitchers at at least a .270 rate or so. Then again, like JUGGER has been preaching, Cairo would be an awesome pickup. Cairo kills lefties, and I honestly believe that if you were to platoon Harris and Cairo, you'd have yourself a .300 hitter with a .380 OBP. Cairo really would be an awesome pickup...
  9. BP -- no one in their right mind -- would ever be jealous of you, or your team. No one.
  10. Ditto! An awesome sig for an awesome poster.
  11. When's this game supposed to be released? It looks like it's going to be kick-ass...
  12. Like ABoz said, some of the members on this board maybe don't want to meet other members of the board. For the record, Addison, I wouldn't mind meeting you.
  13. SnB and Krush, I might not be able to get to the Hilton until that Saturday afternoon, I'm almost positive I have a basketball game on that Friday. f***in basketball...
  14. I'll take my shot: Buehrle - 17 Garcia - 17 Garland - 14 Hernandez - 12 Contreras - 10 70 wins out of the rotation -- hopefully the bullpen can give us 15+ wins, and I think we'll be set...
  15. Nuke, I agree on both your posts this year. BTW - Dye isn't a 'potted plant', as you refer to him as. He's about as good as a healthy Magglio in RF, with a much better arm than Maggs ever had -- and Maggs had a pretty good throwing motion from RF to the plate. We still have our power -- at least 20 homers each from Rowand, Dye, Konerko, Thomas, Uribe, Crede, as well as some others that will reach right around ten homers or so. But now, we have more of a well-balanced lineup, and if we add Eckstien, I'll be very, very pleased with our lineup. Couch is a goof. We haven't been in such a good position since 2003 -- except, this year, we actually have five reliable starters, not four, and our bullpen is loads better than our '03 bullpen.
  16. JMHO, but I don't think they should skip anyone's turn in the rotation, even if it's coming off of an extra day of rest. I think they should go through all five spots in the rotation. The thing is, though, with El Duque, don't pitch him in meaningless innings -- meaning, if the team puts up ten runs for him, and Duque is able to get through five innings, hand the ball to Cotts/Adkins and call it a day for Hernandez. If we're able to keep all five starters healthy for the majority of the year, I really think we'll be in good shape come September.
  17. Why is Garland a question mark? You KNOW what you're going to get from Garland -- right around 200 IP, a sub-five ERA (with potential to get it to right around 4.50 or less), a quality number four. El Duque, when healthy, isn't a question mark either. Plus, the Carlos Lee deal is looking better and better, just because we're actually using the money that the deal freed up. Carlos Lee, could potentially turn into a minor leaguer, Luis Vizcaino, Scotty Pod, El Duque, and Eckstien/Cora -- that's a damn good return.
  18. Yeah, Williams got raped on the Marte deal... :rolly
  19. So, you've been to Comerica, SS2k? It's really odd. The stadium is nice, I like it. But it's like looking at a flower that is colored and real beautiful in the middle of a black and white picture -- know what I'm saying? Comerica itself is nice, but the area around there is a real s***hole, at least, when I was there. It's safe to say my family and I stayed very close to each other on our way back to the car...
  20. JMHO, but I would steer clear of the NY/Arizona negotiations. With Garland, you know what you're going to get. He'll eat up innings, and give you a sub-five ERA with the potential to be a sub-four-and-a-half pitcher. While Vazquez is solid, you'd also have to give up Garland as well as Marte, and possibly even a minor leaguer to get the deal to go through. So, is Vazquez > Garland + Marte + Minor Leaguer + Eckstien/Cora (Because, we'd have no money to spend on Eck/Cora if we made the trade). I'm content with this team heading to Spring Training as it is right now, and I'd be happier if we can sign one of Cora/Eckstien to finish it off...
  21. I hope so, Flash. 2003 was such a blast (well, up until we got our asses kicked up in Minny). Down the stretch, we had an absolutely awesome team -- a healthy Maggs, Thomas, Lee, Valentin, Alomar (Robby), Hot Carl Everett (playing damn well). Our rotation was kick ass. After a real poor first half, Buehrle was dominating. Same with Colon, and Loaiza was having such an extraordinary year. Gordon and Marte solidified an OK bullpen, but it was still solid. Come to think of it, even Garland was having a solid season -- IIRC, he pitched around 180 innings with a 4.51 ERA. Again, I ask -- How the f*** did we not win the division that year? My freakin' goodness, Kenny assembled such a good team that year... Makes ya wonder, what would that team have done in the playoffs. Gosh...
  22. Hmm... Good question. In the AL, I'd put it -- wow. Tough question. I think our rotation ranks behind Boston's as well as New York's (that's debatable, though). I think I'd put ours third, right up there with Minnesota (Radke and Santana are tough to beat, not much behind them), and potentially Oakland (though that's definitely debatable, whether or not their young guns come through). I have to say, I like our one through five better than just about anyone in the AL, though... It helps when three of the better starters in the AL are now gone (Huddy, Mulder, Pedro), too.
  23. Good. I was really worried that the Cubs were going to make an attempt to land this guy. I think when healthy, he's one of the best hitters in baseball. Definitely didn't want to see him in Cubby pinstripes...
