  1. Gosh damn, DJ is such a dolt. He said Podsednik is one of the fastest players in the league. Is that a fair statement at this point? Without even thinking about it, I bet I could come up with ten guys faster. Eyeing every roster over once, I bet I'd double that number.
  2. Sweeney is now slugging under .400. He's definitely taken a major step backwards this season. At least we'll have yet another fourth outfielder, though...
  3. Great Beckham set-piece for his first American goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpEvOklJHcw
  4. B-Mac is probably done for the season with a stress fracture in his shoulder. That's a shame -- he's gotten his ERA down to 4.79 after an absolutely horrible start.
  5. Chelsea played like absolute horse-s*** in the first half, yet in a five minute period in the second half, they've taken the lead on Reading 2-1. Amazing...
  6. Another Wii related question... I'm eventually going to buy four controllers (I have two right now). Is it crucial to buy the nun-chuck add-on along with all the other controllers?
  7. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 04:45 AM) Get Resistance. Or did it come with it? You're the only one who has posted about Super Mario Strikers -- is it worth buying? I generally only want games for the Wii that can be played with more than one person ala Mario Party and Super Smash. Mario Strikers sounds like it can be in that same category.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 03:12 AM) Comparing those guys with Floyd makes no sense. Makes about as much sense as comparing Charlie Haeger and Tim Wakefield.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 03:23 AM) FSC has quite a few of the games on live every week (and replays of a lot of them too). If your like me, who stays off of any soccer website its pretty easy to just watch your replays (cause I don't know the outcome of the games yet when I see them). I have FSC and it's fine but I head to school next Friday and won't have FSC up there, as Marquette makes sophomores stay in dorms. I've found the website(s) that I needed to find, hopefully I'll be able to catch Liverpool's first leg against Toulouse tomorrow.
  10. Anybody know if Freddy Adu has played for Benifica (sp?) yet? I know their club had a CL game today, I was wondering if he saw any time.
  11. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) I'm a huge Josh Fields fan but his bat is going to be mediocre at best at a corner outfield spot unless he has a huge breakout season. .260/.320/.475 is quite good at 3B but nothing exciting in LF. A .260/.320/.475 line from LF would be the best LF production we've seen since 2004. Relative to other LFers around the league, you're right, those numbers are barely average, but I'd be extremely pleased with those numbers from Fields next season, even if it was with him playing a corner OF spot. I'll leave the actual numbers-and-scouting reasoning to somebody else -- I'm heading to work in a few -- but you're greatly underselling DLS. From watching his short stint in the futures game as well as hearing first-hand reports (Baseball America, folks from this site), I'd say there's only a couple of pitchers in the whole organization -- big league club included -- with stuff as good or better than DLS's.
  12. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) No, it doesn't. Then again, it makes even less sense to throw money at more bats when you need more arms in your bullpen. Like it or not, Kenny is probably going to do the exact same thing he did last year with the bullpen, and that's go cheap. Jenks, MacDougal and Thorton are locks so long as they're *not* traded. That leaves Bukvich, Wassermann, Logan, Aardsma, Sisco, Masset, Floyd, Perez, Day and even guys like Broadway and Haeger to compete for four spots. Now, not all of these guys will be in the organization next season, but these guys are going to be competing for spots on the White Sox' 2008 team. That leaves AT MOST one spot for a free agent reliever. They'll also bring in some more Bukvich types, too, but that really doesn't count.
  13. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) You win with pitching, not having a lineup of All-Stars from top to bottom. The lineup this guy shows has just two WELL above average hitters -- Konerko and Thome. Then there's Rowand who figures to be slightly above average, and Crede and Pierznyski who figure to be slightly below average. The rest is dreck -- Owens sucks, Richar has potential but still has some things to figure out and there's not a chance in hell Sweeney is close to being a big-league average hitter yet. And what pitching? When Nick Masset is in your starting rotation and Ryan Bukvich is in your bullpen, you shouldn't pimp your pitching. Don't get me wrong, the pitching looks like it could be pretty good next year, but not nearly good enough to carry that lineup of suck.
  14. http://blog.mlive.com/tigersinsider/2007/0...llo_to_rec.html :sigh I'm trying to think of what to type, I really don't know what to say. Insert the obligatory "the Tigers certainly aren't afraid of going over slot" statement, or something like that...
  15. I've heard that there are several ways -- some without paying (wink wink nudge nudge) -- of watching Champions League and Premiership games online. If anybody knows of any websites that are convenient and easy to use, feel free to PM me -- it would be greatly appreciated.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) So my step brother who is 8 months younger than me got offered an 85,000 dollar a year sponsorship from full tilt poker. How did he get it? I assume that the "contract" is comprised of him just playing on Full Tilt and, whenever he plays publicly, to be decked out in Full Tilt gear. If you can't tell, I'm jealous.
  17. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 06:05 PM) Inconclusive. Haeger hasn't gotten AAA hitters out this year and didn't get major league hitters out in his stint this season. As to why Floyd deserves a shot over Haeger? It's simple, really, and not very hard to understand -- Floyd is out of options beyond this season, Haeger isn't (at least that I know of). We can afford to be patient with Haeger so he can learn to get AAA hitters outdo his work. Haeger has had just as much, if not more success in the minors than Floyd and I look at Tim Wakefield when I say be patient with Haeger. The knuckleball is all cute and dandy, but I'll say it again -- there's a reason there's only been ONE successful knuckleballer over the past twenty years. Me? I see it more likely that Haeger becomes Steve Sparks than Tim Wakefield.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) I too like Liverpool's chances of breaking into the top 2. I was very impressed with Babel when he came on. It all depends on Torres' impact in terms of how many goals he can score, because that's always been Liverpool's problem, a pure goalscorer. Babel had an absolute rocket of a shot that was saved by the Villa keeper. I agree that he looked good in his short stint. Torres also looked really good. He's very confident with the ball and had some great touches. He made an awesome move in the first half getting around two defenders and almost sneaking one in by the far-side post. It also appears that he's not afraid to play a more physical game (isn't the EPL considered a more 'physical' league than the LFP Primera?).
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 01:49 AM) The guy is becoming a pitcher in the closers role. And that makes him pretty damn dangerous for the opposition. Congrats to the Big Guy on this great accomplishment. That's the key, and you've been saying it for a better portion of the season -- we're seeing a real transformation in Jenks becoming a *pitcher* this season. Even in 2005, Jenks was more of a thrower. He had a regular routine, regardless of the hitter, in 2005 -- get two strikes with his fastball (which was then sitting at 99-101) and drop the curve for strike three. This year, he's added a nice cut to his fastball, and when he wants to throw his heater, he can still dial it up to 95-96. He's been a real bright spot in a dull season.
  20. Keep an eye out this week for Wednesday's signing deadline for prospects. I think it's stupid as f*** that you only have less than two months to get all of your picks signed, but it is what it is, and a bunch of the top prospects still haven't signed. I imagine we'll see a bunch of them sign last minute, but there's a chance Weiters (sp?), the Georgia Tech catcher might not sign. David Price and KC's pick (Moustakas?) are still unsigned as well.
  21. Is there any way to save this video to my computer? When you guys click on the link that I just provided, it'll tell you the video has been removed due to copyright issues. The thing is, I still have the video up on my laptop from before the video got removed. I know on YouTube, I thought I remember being able to just right click and save it, but that's not working for this Daily Motion. Any help is appreciated. Those bastards have taken all of the replays of this video (it's a soccer goal) off all the video sites and I'd really love to have it on my laptop.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 05:03 PM) Redding gets the tie. Don't ask me how, but they did. The possession percentage must've been 70-30 in favor of Man-U. Man-U even played a man up because a Reading player got a red card, and they still couldn't dent the back of the net.
  23. That's some solid info there, 29th. I assume you're a fan of the Hawks? And in my calling out of Rozner, by no means am I wearing the 'red-and-black' colored glasses. I understand that Tallon's first offseason was bad, but I don't know how anyone looking objectively at the Hawks organization for the past decade or so can say Tallon has done a bad job. He's done what he had to do -- blow up the team and start from scratch by building from within. You can see that in his moves this winter -- short contracts and very little (relative) money to Lang and Perrault. More importantly, I think the page is starting to turn with regards to the Hawks getting some 'respect' around the league. They've built up a farm system that is top three in all of hockey; they've made great use their top picks, as Barker, Toews, Skille and Kane all look to be very respectable selections; and they've even added a guy who can be considered a legitimate NHL star in Havlat.
  24. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) But then again I'm a bit biased because I don't think Jerry will ever be a key piece for a White Sox team that contends for a championship. Oh, don't get me wrong -- if Jerry Owens is anything more than a fourth outfielder on next year's team, we're most likely in some trouble. I've been calling JO a fourth outfielder for more than a year now, so I know where you're coming from.
  25. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 11, 2007 -> 07:08 PM) I don't recall the second game, but if I read the papers correctly ... wasn't the bunt attempt popped up and then Owens got the green light to steal? Yeah, and Owens subsequently stole second without a throw from Martinez. Owens is stealing bases at an 84% clip this year. If he can't trust Owens to nab second in that situation (awful defensive catcher behind the plate, a soft-tosser with a below average move to first on the mound), what good is Owens to the Sox?
