QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 12:33 AM) I have to say, I played Madden on the 360 and I prefer the PS3 version better. IMO they changed the gameplay too much. Isn't Madden twice as fast (screens per second or some jargon like that?) on the 360? The only trouble I'm having is using the hit-stick. It seems to take a half a second to kick in. Anybody else have this 'problem'? Trying to catch a ball is the same way...

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 04:01 AM) FIFA 08's cover will feature Jozy Altidore, Ronaldinho, and Guillermo Ochoa. Pitiful. I'll challenge anybody in this game on 360. I don't think I lost more than three times with Portugal in 2007 -- the 4-3-3 with Nani, Ronaldo and Quaresma up front is unstoppable -- and in 2008, I'll take anybody in club (Liverpool) or international (Portugal). We also need to have a discussion about Altidore in the soccer thread. Is he the best player in MLS? Whenever I see him play, it's like he does whatever the hell he wants out there.

The only thing that pisses me off with the Wii -- and it really gets me -- is that you have to pay separately for a controller AND the nunchuk. You end up dropping $70 on a f***ing controller, which is rather ridiculous. And I come home from buying Super Mario Strikers and find out the nunchuk is a needed component for the game. Grr...

Did everybody start this week? I know UofI doesn't start till the 27th, and we (Marquette) don't start to the 27th. Sort of sucks that I have to live in a dorm this year, but I'll make do. At this point I just want to get to Friday -- I'm all alone :sadface.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 07:07 PM) Yeah the pk kick was pretty brutal in a close match. It was an early season match and you could tell both teams were still feeling each other out. I believe the ref who made the call has been suspended for next weekend's games, or at least I though I saw that on Sky Sports. It's just a shame to get such a class goal from Torres and then have Chelsea get a lucky BS call for a PK. Ah well...

Two completely random questions: -When a police officer pulls you over, what rights does a cop have as far as searching your car? Do they have to have some "reasonable suspicion" or are they alowed to just go through your car? -Any good ideas on how to shrink a t-shirt? The shirt is 100% cotton, and I don't need to shrink it that much -- it's a medium and I'm sort of right in-between a men's small and a medium.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) ML-ready young position players (besides Richar) are outfielders. Who are these guys? Because Jerry Owens and his sub-.600 OPS don't count. And I don't consider Sweeney ML-ready, considering he can't slug .400 in freaking Charlotte.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 11:37 PM) That is completely asinine and you know it. What's the problem? What Flash is saying is quite simple -- at least if you pick fourth as opposed to tenth, you'll have the chance to take that tenth player along with those slotted from four to ten. That doesn't mean the player taken fourth will be better than the tenth player, the fifteenth player, hell the 300th player -- but you have a chance to draft ALL of those guys with the fourth overall. My hope is that Tampa Bay gets first and somehow, someway, those two teams below us are able to get on a little hot streak. The D'Rays strike me as a franchise that could still use more pitching, even with the selection of Price. They have Longoria and Brignac (sp?) on the left side of the infield, so maybe they'd think about passing on Alvarez. It's really a shame that Weiters got signed by Baltimore -- Boras client or not, he'd've been a perfect selection for this organization (okay, Porcello would've been a perfect fit, but he was taken in the top te--... oh, wait).

96 on the Comcast gun from Floyd. I'm not buying 96, but he did look good that inning.
-
Can Josh Fields be the team's hitting coach?
-
Over/under on homers for Fields: 19.5. I'd probably take the under, but that's a real real close under -- I'd peg him for 18 or 19.
-
I'd go four years with Hunter -- a similar deal to Buehrle. Hunter isn't as good a hitter as he's been this season, but over the last three season's his OPS+ is still at 115 or so. And if they did go after Hunter, the person I'd try to dump is Konerko. Hopefully they can revisit the Kotchman + ___________ deal with Anahiem -- Kotchman is already on his way to being Konerko's equal, but the perception is that Konerko is much better (something like a 25-to-9 advantage in homers for Konerko). I'd do Kotchman + Willits/Figgins for Konerko in an instant.
-
What a bulls*** call to award Chelsea the PK. That's a shame -- Liverpool controlled a good portion of that game. Great goal by Torres, by the way.
-
Okay, so a small part of me wanted Ichiro to catch that ball. That probably would've been the catch of the year.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 03:39 AM) Wasserman surrenders the lead and Owens gives Seattle an insurance run. 5-3. Last place, baby! Hey, I'll gladly take last place -- give me that higher draft pick. I believe we're currently 5th or 6th worst in all of baseball. There's no way we finish the worst in all of baseball -- Tampa Bay is just too bad -- but all of the other teams behind us are in striking distance. There's a reasonably good chance the Sox get a top five pick next season.

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 01:07 AM) If he just learns a bit more patience, and get on base more often, he can keep stealing at a good clip and cause all of kinds of problems on the base paths. And hey, if I learn to throw 95 MPH with a nasty hook, I might be looking at a career in the big leagues too!

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 10:47 PM) Tomorrow Chelsea v Liverpool, which should be a good one. Im picking Liverpool in this one. Gerrard is probably going to play even with the fracture in his toe -- I hope he takes it easy, I don't think he ought to be risking it during the second EPL match of the season. Is Chelsea fully healthy? Weren't both Terry and Essien hurt?
-
Who is going to play CF next year for the Twins? Am I missing an up-and-coming prospect in their system? They're going to have a helluva time replacing the 120 OPS+ that Hunter has given them the past two seasons...

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) He shouldn't be swinging for the fences, but that's just my opinion. Even a .330 OBP out of the leadoff slot would be nice at this stage of a career, but .290? That seriously blows. I'd be more concerned about his OBP if he didn't show he could walk in the minors, but he did. If we're at the ASB of next season and his IsoDiscipline is still only .050 (.290-.240), I'd probably start to worry. This is an odd time for this thread, though. Vazquez is finally living up to what all his peripheral numbers (DiPS, WHIP, K/9, K/BB) said he should've been doing all along. It's very nice to see, and I feel pretty comfortable with Javy atop our rotation for the foreseeable future.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) So going back year by year, how many guys put up the numbers that Vazquez does annually? I'm mainly looking at first rounders here, mind you, but these guys alone are from the 2006 draft... Tim Lincecum - Looks like the best pitcher in that draft. Andrew Miller - Already a league average pitcher. Brandon Morrow - Great reliever for Seattle. Don't know if his future is there or as a starter. Ian Kennedy - Top prospect for the Yankees. Joba Chamberlain - Nasty stuff, future as a starter. Already an awesome reliever. Clayton Kershaw - Top five pitching prospect in all of baseball. Max Sherzer - Best pitching prospect for Arizona (?). ------------------ It really grinds my gears that the Sox cheap out on the draft. They are a top third payroll team and I have to imagine their revenue is also in the top third/half, yet the Sox have to play buddy-buddy with Selig and not go over slot. It pissed me off this year that they passed on Porcello, but I think I'll throw a riot if the Sox f*** their fans over next season and go cheap with the top ten pick they in 2008. They better not go cheap there. Every first round pick signed this year, that includes Boras clients -- they better take the best player available. Who said player's agent is shouldn't even come into question. If you can't sign him, take the pick in 2009.

Should baseball go back to the old four division format?
CWSGuy406 replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in The Diamond Club
I don't want more teams, but baseball's playoffs would certainly be better if you went back to the two-division format. It would certainly make winning a "division title" a helluva lot more meaningful, and September baseball would also improve due to more inter-divisional matchups. Look at this season in the terms of a four division format. I assume the Sox and Royals would be moved to the West along with one of Cleveland/Detroit/Minny. It would suck from a personal standpoint in that the Sox that we'd be playing so many more games out West, but I really wouldn't be too upset about that. As you alluded to, though, it would really pay dividends in the NL where the tallest midget that is the NL Central winner wouldn't have a representative for the playoffs. Instead you'd have a great battle for four playoff spots between Atlanta, New York, Philly, San Diego, Arizona and the Dodgers. I suppose I'm discounting the Cubs, Cards and Brewers a tad bit -- they'd probably compete for that fourth and final spot. -
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) That's a nice turnaround, considering that his average for the month of August was barely over .100 in his first 45 ABs. Even with this recent burst of power, he's still hitting .219 for the month with a .275 OBP. And of course, he had that killer June where he sported a .245 OBP in over 100 ABs. This dude straight up rocks my socks. Just keep your eyes off of the .468 slugging percentage on the season.

Official Hate for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread
CWSGuy406 replied to fathom's topic in The Diamond Club
Why don't we merge this thread with the regular "catch-all" thread? -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 04:40 PM) The White Sox should learn how to hit him better if they're so worried about him. This is rather funny. Don't get me wrong -- I'm as sick of the "tip of the ole cap" line as you are -- but damn...

I'm very much glad that we took Donald Lucy over him. f***in cheat beat me to the punch.
