Ditto, but mostly because of the draft picks we got and signed. If McCarthy (along with some others) didn't emerge like they did, then I would think our farm system has been a downfall. Yes we lost some studs, but we still got some and newbies as well.

If you remember the trade back then, you'd know that the cubs desperately needed help in the pen. Garland was actually very overrated and he was "suppose" to be the next best thing. His minor league numbers were good, but he still has been average up here. Hell, we didn't know he would be average. It was still a good trade for us. Hell, the cubs traded Willis for Alfonseca and Clement cause they needed bullpen help (which fonse had a decent year at that time.) Who would have thought that Willis is the next best thing.

Kubel is an absolute stud.

They both have been equally as bad. Grill has a 6.99 in Sepember whereas Garland is sportin a 6.41 era. (dont want to show the other stats cause there horrible.) Of course we expect more out of Garland. He was a first round pick, has a load of potential who we traded for, has the stuff to be a good #3 (average #2) in the league, and he is younger than Grilli.
