  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) If the White Sox think he's a left handed Frank Thomas, taking him #1 wouldn't be considered stupid 20 years from now if they were correct. But a guy who could be Carlos Correa wouldn't be bad either. The thing is, Beer's bat will probably be ready by 2020. A HS SS probably will not, and you are going to have to trust the White Sox developmental team. A lot will happen between now and the draft. It will be interesting to see how they are lined up by the gurus next June. Yup. Again, the dude was putting up incredible numbers as a freshman. Even with a subpar sophomore year with extremely bad luck, he still put up sick numbers. The sox have already proven with their recent picks they advocate hit tools, power and high OBP and not so much about defensive accolade. Do I necessarily agree with it? Not really, but that also doesn't mean they can't improve with the glove. Burger and Collins for example were not drafted because of their defense. Again, if the draft were held today, I'm probably not picking him. It just seems like posters are more "in the now" from who has helium in regards to prospects.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) Beer would be a terrible pick at #1 or #2 IMO. Get the most dynamic talent possible at the top of the draft and go underslot in round 2 if need be. You don't get cute when picking this high. No he wouldn't be. Kid was putting up legendary numbers as a freshman. I have 0 doubts he'll be fantastic next year. His bat is special. Obviously with the sox recent top picks, they don't value the defensive side of the game others do. I'm personally more on the Turang train, but lets not act like Beer isn't a top 5 talent in the country.
  3. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 06:36 PM) Ehhh I wouldn't say that. I've seen people rooting for #1 overall in 2019 already. I need to see links for this. I've seen a couple of posters mention top 5 before, but nothing suckier than that. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 06:47 PM) You cannot pretend to know what the White Sox offseason strategy will be. They are maybe the most unpredictable front office in the game. raBBit, who clearly has as good an inside scoop on this franchise as about anyone, said they would never deal with the Cubs...then lo and behold. You argue whether they should or should not sign free agents but to assume that they wont be active in free agency is a baseless presumption. Especially with all the payroll they'll have available. What front line FA (which is what DA was saying) are the sox going to sign? Hahn has already kept his word with what their plans have been (and are) this year and next. He put the "not dealing with Cubs" rumors to rest MONTHS before the Q deal. They've already had more leaks with deals this year (that have been TRUE) than I can remember and their draft plans (and international signings, hello Robert) more than when I was on FS covering spects.
  4. Another solid outing once again for Dunning.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) Apparently Contreras has decided to turn into a superstar. I've always liked him. Guys with his arm and athleticism don't grow on trees.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) For example, how in the hell is Moncada not stealing 2nd with 1st and 3rd, two outs and RHP on the mound Said it before as an example, there's no way Tim Anderson shouldn't have at least 15 bags swiped.
  7. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) Can Sox throw a guy out stealing anymore? I'm more worried about if their manager will ever let them steal bags anymore (besides on hit and run and predictable counts)...
  8. Props to the poster who mentioned Peterson as an option.
  9. That was not a strike on Delmonico, but Vasquez is a stud framer so..
  10. This bad base running is getting comical now.
  11. QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 08:38 PM) Video of Hansen's curve from tonight: Hansen K Absolutely dirty movement and plane. Wow.
  12. Devers stance and swing reminds me so much of Adam Dunn (Reds version). It's unbelievable.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 08:27 PM) Amazing how often Burger reaches via error And HBP.
  14. Padres, A's are up. Phillies, Reds and Giants are down. Mets lost already.
  15. 3 run bomb for Adolfo!
  16. Wow.. what a series for Delmonico.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) Best prospect pitching night in forever for the Sox? Didn't Lopez and Kopech have 10+ K games a week ago or so? I remember Dunning pitching well too. EDIT: Yup. 7/26 games thread.
  18. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) I know it's hard to walk away from the $$$ but I go back to pride and greed. This guy has already made millions, how much better is he going to live if he hangs around until his contract is over. Not everyone is Adam LaRoche.
  19. Wow Timmy..
  20. OT: Ronald Acuna is ready. What a stud Atlanta has on their hands.
  21. W-S is on a roll. If they win tonight, that'll be 6 straight wins. I remember just a week ago, I said they had no chance of clinching a second half playoff berth. They cut the GB to 6.5 games, although Blues Creek won't lose either. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 07:18 PM) Hansen strikes out the side in the 6th to put him at 12 Ks on the night. Dude is something else. 6 IP 2 H 0 R 0 ER 2 BB 12 SO Good lord.
  22. Love Hawk saying Steverson or somebody should be in Abreu's ear about taking walks.
  23. 7 IP 4 H 1 R 0 ER 1 BB 11 SO for the stud that is Kopech.
  24. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) Shields is perfect for losing Absolutely. Fans should be counting their blessings he's here to pretty much guarantee a loss every start.
