  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) You dont want Rios batting 2nd in Ozzie's line up. Ozzie will have him bunting and taking pitches for Pierre to steal on. You want some one like Vizquel in that spot because its not so bad when the bat gets taken out of his hand. The most logical spot (imo) is batting Manny 5th. If he is on fire maybe move him to 3rd, but Id rather have Rios/Konerko in front of Manny, so that he can drive them in. Exactly. That being said I'd bat Rios 5th. His RBI chances with 2 outs and RISP has been amazing this year. I don't want Rios or Beckham touching the 2 spot in an Ozzie Guillen managed team. Leave that for a guy like Vizquel. (maybe Alexei)
  2. It would be a travesty to see Konerko out of the 4th spot this season. No way that happens.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Manny would bat 5th (imo) I would bat him higher, but ya I can't see Ozzie moving Rios or Konerko (in his case, rightfully so) out of the 3 and 4 spots.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) Those same Phillies just got swept in a 4 game series at home by the Astros. Yep. Thats why you play the game first and not worry about match-ups. I thought the Twins would lose yesterday for sure with Cliff Lee on the bump.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) How can you not mention me Soxace, I defended Bonds more than anyone on this board. I truly am offended. What youve done here is far worse than using steroids. You didnt give me proper credit. Hey you are part of the "etc.." Badge. No doubt though you were also one of the main backers (as was SoxFan1) too.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) You mean old people? Haha, I was not gonna be that direct with it.
  7. Surprised how many people are fine with Manny regardless if he'd help us cause of his cheating. Many of the same people hated Barry bonds' guts when guys like myself, wite, tru, etc.. wanted him badly here when he was available and were giving us crap. That reminds me, I wonder what guys like Tex (and others) think about this. At least guys like Balta are consistent with their stuff (feel dirty cheering, still chant steriods) which I respect.
  8. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) holding pattern see if dodgers continue to win. This. No matter what people believe, they are technically "still in the race".
  9. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) I hate PTBL. No patience for the L. Ditto. I just hope it isn't someone with upside that some of us prospect lovers like.
  10. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) Radio station in LA saying deal is done? Manny to Sox, Sox pick up most of the contract, LA gets PTBNL. JUST A RUMOR. #whitesox - some guy on twitter. Wow! Now my pants are comming off.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) There have been a lot of Sox players that have taken PEDs that you most likely have cheered for over the years. Supposedly, there were at least 2 from that World Series team. Regardless if that is probably the lowest number for a World Series team in that decade, there were still roiders.
  12. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) So would Flowers. My money's still on Gilmore. Boy that would really justify the Vazquez trade wouldn't it? I'm gonna say It'll be a pitcher (maybe both) but who is young enough for the Dodgers to like. Someone like Nate Jones () or if it's both, a Kyle Colligan type. I hope the spects will be even worse (potential wise) than worse guys, but this is KW.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Who are we going to give the Dodgers in trade for this rental? That should be interesting. Flowers? Sale? Viciedo? If it is a top 5 prospect of ours (regardless how weak our system is) it would be a horrendous trade. I'd give them no more than Gartrell if it really came to that. Luckily, no one on the 40 man can be dealt. Hell I'd pay them to get Kyle McCulloch out of this system. I'm tired of seeing his name still with us during the old drafting regime personally.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) I know, I know, I'm a sellout to laundry too...but I still claim the right to be bothered by this and to chant Steroids whenever he's up. That guy saying "No Way" in your quote from the 05 team might have been a roider. I believe docsox said there was 2 roiders who did play on that 05 team. Wasn't it fathom who said Rowand was linked before?
  15. QUOTE (striker @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) Alot of people say baseball isn't an exciting sport but Kenny Williams makes it exciting for Sox fans. This team has been more boring than recent teams from what I've seen and heard from other sox fans. Manny however would definitely make sox baseball fun to watch again I would think especially with his antics.
  16. Wow... crazy day in baseball news so far.
  17. Damn.. many saw it comming. I was shocked to hear it, but I wasn't surprised. Huge blow for the Nats and for baseball. I thought it was more the elbow than the forearm when I saw that pitch. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) I just hope Chris Sale lasts a lot longer than Strasburg. Sale's mechanics aren't pretty either. As ptatc pointed out before, Strasburg's mechanics are much worse than Sales. I hope for his sake, he still regains that velocity back after Tommy John. Not EVERY pitcher does.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) Again? As good as Felix was last year, Greinke was clearly better and deserved the award. Totally forgot Zack's year was 09. (I was thinking 08 for some reason) I'll take a stab at my predictions. AL Manager - Ron Washington (go figure.. with the off-season stuff) AL Rookie - Austin Jackson (I can see Feliz winning it as well, but his guy has held his own with the bat and glove all year. Plus rating in both UZR and WAR) AL MVP - Miguel Cabrera (I usually agree with the guy whose team is better, but this guy is nearing triple crown numbers [1st, 2nd and 3rd in each.. damn you Bautista and Hamilton, though I could see him catching Josh in average] and beats Hamilton's numbers (except batting average right now) in every stat (not to mention has been Barry Bonds-ed with his 26 IBB to Hamilton's 5) and has no other protection. He is just amazing to watch and makes me want to re-pull up those threads defending his awesomeness. AL Cy Young - C.C. Sabathia (as wite said though, King Felix should get it.. and he will probably get robbed) NL Manager - Bud Black (what a year for that team.. this award is probably the most locked up of them all) NL Rookie - Buster Posey (There is a reason why me and daa say he will be the best player in that 08' draft. Add in an outstanding job at handling the pitching staff as a young player himself in a playoff run. Props to J4L for also giving him love.) NL MVP - Joey Votto (This and the Cy Young are going to go down to the wire with him and Pujols. Both are also near Triple Crowns. Reds being in first place is helping his chances not to mention he has been the main reason statistically) NL Cy Young - Adam Wainwright (He is going to be neck and neck with Roy Halladay down the stretch. Tim Hudson deserves some love as well)
  19. Looks like Melo is done at Denver (In other words, he will be traded). I hope if the Bulls want to get him, they should address to Melo and his agent he can wear his headband since Melo was very vocal about that issue with the Bulls on that rule with Ben Wallace years ago. This will definitely help the Bulls compete with teams like the Lakers and Heat now and for the future (if he is extended). I hope Denver likes Luol Deng (and his youth.. despite his contract) as well. Long shot though. If I'm New York, I'd be all over this.
  20. I'm still waiting for qwerty and Kalapse to create the greatest blog in internet history personally.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) AL Cy Young - Sabathia (Felix should get it though) He'll get robbed again. Lack of wins which is what voters look at alot. I would of gave it to Cliff Lee about a week ago, but it's obvious he's tired (as doc indicated) which is hurting his numbers.
  22. Hey Balta, was Jackson good enough tonight for ya?
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) And Matusz is developing, and had been doing very well lately. He's a talented pitcher. So is Arrieta. No doubt the both of them will anchor that staff for a long time. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Forget that kids era, and look at his stuff. He is learning on the job, and he won't be anything like a 6 era pitcher. He is a great young arm. Ah well... Mike said it himself.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) Then it is also worth noting that Kenny has completely more trades than anyone in baseball, and it isn't even close IIRC, during his time as GM. More trades = more chances of rejection. I really don't think it is unusual, it just seems worse because we see it first hand, and we have a lot more chances. Look at the trades hes made though Mike. Those guys don't have NTC in their contracts majority of the time. He either gets guys with a chip on their shoulder, or young prospects who didn't get much of a chance with their original team. He is notorious (and very good might I add) in going that route which has worked in his tenure. The only trades he's made that I can recall that a player accepted with a NTC in his contract were Peavy and Griffey Jr (don't remember if Roberto Alomar had one).
