QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) Also, this is Manny's first home game, right? I'm actually interested to see/hear if there will be any boos from some of the sox faithful.

2011
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 03:25 AM) First of all, there's no way that KW should trade Pierre unless we have ANOTHER option for leadoff, and Mitchell's probably 18 months away...and, at this point, we're far from certain if he can be an ideal leadoff hitter. Maybe. Is there a more overrated category (as far as hitters) in baseball?

2011
I'd be very, very careful with evaluating Vizquel. I still think he is having a fluke year offensively at his age, especially when he was putting up .243/.301/.308/.608 combined from 07-09. If we are bringing him back for his glove, sure, but I fear Ozzie will give him more at-bats (again) than he is worth similar to what he did with Kotsay after his sample size 09 season. I honestly would look to trade Pierre as well which is a good sell high with him. His OBP is inflated this season with his 18 HBP. (twice as many than he's ever had in his career in a season, i.e. he had 10 with the Rockies 9 years ago) I also hate his game, so perhaps that is my hatred talking, though I have nothing to say about him this year with us luckily. I didn't even mention the bullpen either.. KW has alot of work to do, no doubt and he and the front office (not Ozzie) has to make his smart decisions. And if there is one guy I hope is not brought back, and we get a much better hitter/OBP guy.. it's A.J. (not getting VMart, I don't believe, we'll see with KW) and I'd give Konerko only 2 years max. (though he definitely won't duplicate the season he had this year, and I'm sure the F.O. knows it.) Theres gonna be alot of 1B to sell low on, it's up to the F.O. if they want to gamble on that and get more established hitters elsewhere in different positions.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) Morel is gonna be fine, kid is in the middle of the pennant race, a bit shaky at first. Probably won't see any action the rest of the season however. (Unless the Twins put the sox out of their misery early on with some games to spare, though I still think Ozzie plays the vets for "pride")

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) Honestly, if I were the Bulls and I could get Anthony for Noah + Deng, and do so without giving up Gibson such that I at least had someone to play C this year, I don't see how I could say no. Obviously, he would not be the hold up. Noah is a fine player, but it's easier to replace him than it is to acquire a Melo type talent. Taj Gibson would not hold me up either. Derrick Rose becomes the second option. That is incredible to think about. Rose-Brewer-Melo-Boozer-Przybilla type big man (maybe add him to a Rudy Fernandez trade), you have a fighting chance against Miami.

Game Thread! 9/9/10 Sox @ Tigers
The series against the Twins is a must sweep now. Unless the Sox pull a Colorado over these next 19 games, this division race is pretty much over. If I'm the Twins, I smell blood, and beat the Sox at least 2/3 times to wrap the division up (depending on what they do against Cleveland).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) Not if the Bulls get ballsy in reply and offer Joakim. The problem with Noah is...the cost in luxury tax of taking on him and Deng and offering Noah an extension would be monstrous. Correct, which is why the Bulls won't offer Noah. The Knicks can still offer Randolph and be good in spending. The thing is like the Bulls, I can't see the Knicks doing it. Now New Jersey.. they beat out both teams in talent, and can offer alot to get Melo (as they've said.. whatever it takes). But I highly doubt he would sign an extension to a team who was terrible last year even with a couple of nice pieces.

On the bright side, Frank Thomas sounds miles better than he did earlier in the season. He has really improved his commentary.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) The Bulls have more talent to offer, the Knicks can offer greater salary flexibility. That is very debatable if the Knicks want to get ballsy and offer Randolph as well. If they don't, your right. And ya... I'll add this to the LeBron, Bosh, Wade, and before that.. Kobe, Gasol, Garnett, etc.. rumors.

Frightening Discovery
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Whoa there, it's your tone; it's the wrong tone. When, during any of this pile of generalizations, was the condescending, high school tone necessary? I never liked Thome, you apparently did. In fact, I grew up disliking him on the Indians; you apparently didn't mind him those years. So he hit a few nice homeruns for the Sox over a pointless 4 years did he? Good for him. Good.....for........him (slow, sarcastic clap). I swear some of you act like Jim was Mr. White Sox; Mr. homegrown, glad to be home, king of the South Side. That's Buehrle, Konerko, Baines, Thomas territory that he has no business being in the same discussions with. He grew up a cub fan, played forever on the Indians, co-founder of CWS Corpseball, played on 4 meaningless Sox teams that didn't accomplish dick. What's the big deal? I don't think Thome was the missing piece this year; the first 2 months were. We disagree; why give your arguments that personal attack feel, man? I'm not understanding that avenue. :crying

Wild Card Watch
Tampa Bay now 11-6 against the Red Sox. They are also pretty good against the Angels. The only team besides the Yankees (who they also have a winning record against at 6-5) that will give them fits will be the Blue Jays (8-7) though they give the Yankees even more fits and play New York 3 more times in late September. Oddly enough a dark horse team I would watch out for is Kansas City oddly enough (2-2 against them) and I believe Greinke is scheduled to pitch in a series against them late. Is it impossible? Of course not. Does it make me wanna pay attention to that instead of a team who is 4.5 games ahead of us? Not a chance. It is not leaving the AL East, and I'll gladly eat crow if Tampa decides to pull a San Diego during the final two weeks.

How can anyone...
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) Beacon of sanity? He has been preaching on how the DH will never really matter. We get a real DH and win 7 straight. On posts on a message board, he has not had a good year (said alot of stuff that did not make sense). On the radio show.. I haven't heard him, but judging on what people say here, he's been very good and we know how we as sox fans can get so I'll take posters here words for it..
