QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 01:12 AM) I find this nonsense. I mean really, to me, there is no more elitist music fan in the world than a rap fan. They create this false facade of what rap is, and anyone that doesn't fit that equation is "bad". It's terrible for the genre, they hold everything up and just spit nostalgia about ninety-f***ing-four, but who gives a s***. Kanye's wordplay and flow might not be up to nas or reasonable doubt jay-z era, but his ability to use his medium to move, to speak to people is as good as anyone. His simplicity works. He may be an arrogant piece of s*** in real life encounters, but when he's rapping, he's introspective and honest in ways very few mcs are. I think the kanye hate is always hating some idea of the way a celebrity should be, and they are mistaken. If you want the f***ing jonas brothers, go have them. But this dudes ambition and arrogance is not his problem, it's his biggest asset, because he realizes it and uses it to make great pop songs. Find it nonsense all you want... you can kick rocks with what you believe as far as I'm concerned, but the dude isn't great at all. Now didn't say I don't like Kayne, I mean hell he's from Chicago, but he isn't even the best rapper in Chicago, yet alone in the game today (and the game today is garbage with "MCs" and I quote that very heavily as KRS-One once said.. there is a big difference between an MC and a rapper). I'm not talking real life, I'm not talking how he is as a person (hell Micheal Jackson had his issues and I'm sure alot of us can agree he is Pop, his music was influential) but his music (and I'm talking lyrically) isn't that great, not even as good as when he first started. In fact.. I consider Kayne a sellout in alot of ways (especially trying to "get with" the genre of what the game was doing with auto-tune, and changing his overall style) in his music. Now as a producer you will never see me talk about him. IMO he is one of the biggest genius out there today (or in the last whatever years anyone wants to throw a number at) as a producer. Not alot of MCs aren't good at both. (I don't consider Dr. Dre that great either as an MC, though he is still good for what he says during his time though I'm a bit biased with him, but he is a producing genius.. one of the best ever) As a follower for a long time, growing up listening to alot of great ones, I don't see it with him as an "MC". It's weird I understand his videos more in meaning than I do lyrically in him, whereas Nas (and I'll say his name since you mentioned him) could make one of the s***test videos ever, but I can understand where he's at lyrically. And you wanna talk about him "speaking up to people.." go anywhere and you tell me who they usually name who "speaks up to them" usually... I hear Weezys name as the first mentioned. Everybody here as different opinions on different MCs. (some we all agree on, and usually they are the best/greatest) Kayne is just one of those guys I always found overrated.

Joe Mauer is the king of stealing signs BTW.

Gonzo confirms this. Yea it was expected. Kid has a nice future though. Got to work on some of those issues in AAA and it's good he'll get consistent at-bats now for a good couple weeks before comming back up.
-
Nice outing for Ryan Buch. Man Escobar is really adjusting well in AA. I'll say it before Dan throws it in my face.
-
I left and Gavin had 3 ER in 5.. I see he gave up a 3 run homer to Kubel. One bright spot though was Chris Sale. Amazing future that kid has if he can stay healthy. Friend I know who is at the game was texting me saying he was hitting 98-99 on the gun at the park. He was also hitting that on the comcast gun and pitchfx I believe.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) Who has CP3 had recently who's been a better player at that position? I assume you've got to be thinking of either Peja or David West, but I'm not sure which one I'd call a SF like Ariza, and Peja really wasn't effective there thanks to injury. David West is a PF first of all (he could play SF, but would have a s***load of trouble guarding quicker SF who stretch the floor especially with his extra 20 lbs of extra bulk and limited quickness at that position). And yes Peja is a much better SF (he is a pure SF, who can play off guard) who was also the much better fit for Paul (especially in spacing) than Ariza will be unless he drastically improves his outside shooting. And of course now I see you changed your reply to "recently" which is alittle more tolerable. Hell Peja at Ariza's age was putting up 21-5-3. (.484 fg% .416 3p% 17.48 PER) You can't even compare them at per 36 minutes cause Peja trumps him there too, hell, he's in the top 50 in active PER right now. And I'll say this though... like I said if Ariza improves his outside shooting, Paul will definitely make him a better player overall cause he will find him. Playing with a PG like him would only help Trevor. (who also has much, MUCH better rebounding potential) If he can give Paul 16-4-2 (which is what Peja was averaging the last 4 years) with a respectable fg and 3p% (won't be as good of a shooter as Peja, but hopefully solid enough) it's a lateral move.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) I'm gonna respectfully disagree with this. Never impressed me at all Marcus. He's a much better producer than a rapper. Been a hip-hop fan for a long time, and other than his earlier work (which wasn't THAT amazing), he has really fallen off.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Kotsay brings those numbers down with his 0-fer. He is not in the lineup two days in a row now.... I wonder if Ozzie got into a shouting match with his wife or something.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) Since the all star break, he's been pretty much the worst SP in baseball. 5 GS 22 IP 7.25 ERA 2.06 WHIP .374 BAA That's right, opponents are hitting .374 off of him in his last 5 starts. It's not a mental thing. It's an atrocious beyond words thing. Anybody that mentions his record should be kicked in the nuts. You are sorely missed around these parts sir.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 07:25 AM) They certainly gave up value, but they turned that value in to perhaps the best wing playing SF that CP3 has had to play alongside since he was drafted. You've had a bad few days of posting Balta.

Hell of a career. This definitely speeds up the retiring process, something I'm sure he didn't want, but he is a lock for sure to the hall of fame.

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 01:36 AM) He did have a very solid first half, and if he produces similar numbers for the Sox here on out, then I have no problem with the trade. However, that is one good half year out of seven? That wasn't the point. And you are pretty much arguing with yourself here. I think about 95% of the posters who posted in this thread weren't fans of the trade neither. Now as qwerty said (I believe it was him) in another thread, if he pitches like Cy Young for the next 1.5 years he is here (or MIGHT be here) or pretty much like how he's been pitching now (or in that first half last year), it'll be much easier to stomach the deal. (or if Hudson is just terrible in the NL/arm falls off, whatever)

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 10:55 PM) I never thought I'd hear a King Crimson sample in a Kanye West song. Not a fan of the song personally (then again, Kayne has always been weak lyrically IMO), but the video is amazing.

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 01:36 AM) Also, the All-Star nod was crazy in 2009, he was good, but not an All-Star. I hated the trade too, but now your talking as crazy as Balta here. I don't think you realize how good his first half was. 2.52 era, 1.06 whip, .223 oba, not to mention pitched better AWAY than he did at home that first half. (and finished that way as well. He might have been lucky looking at his FIP and his BABIP when the season ended overall, but thats beside the point) He actually had much better numbers overall than his all-star teammate Justin Verlander. (besides wins, strikeouts... the standard numbers) The only snubs that should have been there (I'm talking pitchers) were Kevin Millwood and Jered Weaver. Somehow guys like Brian Fuentes and Tim Wakefield (Tim f***ing Wakefield) made that team instead of them. Same as hitters getting snubbed from other hitters. (Pedroia over Kinsler, Hamilton over Lind OR Dye etc..)

QUOTE (CSF @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) 2 BB, 21 K's in 14 IP. Yeah, I'd say you're right. Make that 2 BBs, 24 K's in 17 IP. His August numbers are just ridiculous.

Nice night for the Knights. Damn near everyone raised their batting average up. BTW I think Teahen's bat is pretty much ready. Escobar got his average up to .255 and that was vintage Stephen Sauer day pitching wise (last year's Sauer) with 0 walks. BTW scenario... you got W-S box up twice. Here is Great Falls box.. Great Falls. Keep an eye on Addison Reed down there.
