The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
Damn.. many saw it comming. I was shocked to hear it, but I wasn't surprised. Huge blow for the Nats and for baseball. I thought it was more the elbow than the forearm when I saw that pitch. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) I just hope Chris Sale lasts a lot longer than Strasburg. Sale's mechanics aren't pretty either. As ptatc pointed out before, Strasburg's mechanics are much worse than Sales. I hope for his sake, he still regains that velocity back after Tommy John. Not EVERY pitcher does.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) Again? As good as Felix was last year, Greinke was clearly better and deserved the award. Totally forgot Zack's year was 09. (I was thinking 08 for some reason) I'll take a stab at my predictions. AL Manager - Ron Washington (go figure.. with the off-season stuff) AL Rookie - Austin Jackson (I can see Feliz winning it as well, but his guy has held his own with the bat and glove all year. Plus rating in both UZR and WAR) AL MVP - Miguel Cabrera (I usually agree with the guy whose team is better, but this guy is nearing triple crown numbers [1st, 2nd and 3rd in each.. damn you Bautista and Hamilton, though I could see him catching Josh in average] and beats Hamilton's numbers (except batting average right now) in every stat (not to mention has been Barry Bonds-ed with his 26 IBB to Hamilton's 5) and has no other protection. He is just amazing to watch and makes me want to re-pull up those threads defending his awesomeness. AL Cy Young - C.C. Sabathia (as wite said though, King Felix should get it.. and he will probably get robbed) NL Manager - Bud Black (what a year for that team.. this award is probably the most locked up of them all) NL Rookie - Buster Posey (There is a reason why me and daa say he will be the best player in that 08' draft. Add in an outstanding job at handling the pitching staff as a young player himself in a playoff run. Props to J4L for also giving him love.) NL MVP - Joey Votto (This and the Cy Young are going to go down to the wire with him and Pujols. Both are also near Triple Crowns. Reds being in first place is helping his chances not to mention he has been the main reason statistically) NL Cy Young - Adam Wainwright (He is going to be neck and neck with Roy Halladay down the stretch. Tim Hudson deserves some love as well)

Looks like Melo is done at Denver (In other words, he will be traded). I hope if the Bulls want to get him, they should address to Melo and his agent he can wear his headband since Melo was very vocal about that issue with the Bulls on that rule with Ben Wallace years ago. This will definitely help the Bulls compete with teams like the Lakers and Heat now and for the future (if he is extended). I hope Denver likes Luol Deng (and his youth.. despite his contract) as well. Long shot though. If I'm New York, I'd be all over this.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) AL Cy Young - Sabathia (Felix should get it though) He'll get robbed again. Lack of wins which is what voters look at alot. I would of gave it to Cliff Lee about a week ago, but it's obvious he's tired (as doc indicated) which is hurting his numbers.

8/26 Gamethread - O's v. Hose
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) And Matusz is developing, and had been doing very well lately. He's a talented pitcher. So is Arrieta. No doubt the both of them will anchor that staff for a long time. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Forget that kids era, and look at his stuff. He is learning on the job, and he won't be anything like a 6 era pitcher. He is a great young arm. Ah well... Mike said it himself.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) Then it is also worth noting that Kenny has completely more trades than anyone in baseball, and it isn't even close IIRC, during his time as GM. More trades = more chances of rejection. I really don't think it is unusual, it just seems worse because we see it first hand, and we have a lot more chances. Look at the trades hes made though Mike. Those guys don't have NTC in their contracts majority of the time. He either gets guys with a chip on their shoulder, or young prospects who didn't get much of a chance with their original team. He is notorious (and very good might I add) in going that route which has worked in his tenure. The only trades he's made that I can recall that a player accepted with a NTC in his contract were Peavy and Griffey Jr (don't remember if Roberto Alomar had one).

Beckham appreciation thread
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) I thought everyone wanted him sent down to the minors earlier? It's great what patience can bring isn't it I was backing not sending him down earlier in that thread. (give it another month I was saying back then) Not changing that now. Still wished he walked a bit more as he isn't as disciplined as he was when he was struggling (not to mention is striking out more too compared to last year), but hey the average (and the power recently) is rising so I won't complain. I want him no where near the 2 hole anymore especially on an Ozzie Guillen managed team. (though I never wanted him at the 2 spot earlier in the year as I wanted him hitting 3rd... now I'd say hit him 6th now and next season)

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) It happens to everyone. Heck Damon just rejected the Red Sox. The Yankees get rejected all of the time. Of course it does, but that wasn't what the original poster was saying. Damon it was obvious why he would reject. And for as many times as the Yanks get rejected, they sure do get alot of accepts as well.

2010 Cubs Thread
To their credit, Girardi has said before he would love to manage the Cubs (before he was the Yankee skipper), is a Naperville, IL native and I believe was a Cubs fan growing up. It isn't that unrealistic he would walk away from the Yanks to take on a challenge of not winning anything in 100+ years of a team he grew up rooting for. I would have to say though, the dollar figures have to be right however for him to leave, more-so than his roots.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) I just hope Morel isn't going to the Dodgers in return if it happens. I'm afraid of an overpay. Ditto, though I'm not concerned it'll be Morel however.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) Berkman has been a pathetic bust in NY BTW... It goes far beyond Berkman, Oswalt, (or even Peavy's first rejection) etc... though over the years.

Nice start for Santiago. Had to pull a Tony Pena and start in one of the double headers.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Coors Field up to her old tricks, Braves blow 10-1 4th inning lead, lose 12-10 QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) LOL, AT&T Park up to her old tricks as well. Reds were up 10-1 in the 5th, Giants now lead 11-10 after 8 Reds held on however. Shame cause that would have been the first time in MLB history two teams came back from 9 run defeatists on the same day.

Why Do the Sox Suck Vs. Central Division Teams?
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 12:00 PM) lawl, now that I look at the caption of the thread again, it makes it sound like Greg is telling "the sabes people" to do his bidding. xD I gotta admit, I did like that little shot he gave to the saber people.

White Sox Acquire Manny Ramirez
Could totally see the Braves, Padres (if they want defense lost for offense) or the Tigers (out of spite to block/Rios thing last year) claiming him.

Putz and Thornton likely to the DL
QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:09 PM) He lost his control somewhere on the trip between Winston-Salem and Birmingham this summer. He was playing great. Now he couldn't find the plate with a GPS. Correct. Typically the A+ to AA jump is arguably the biggest to make. Dealing with more patient (and better overall) hitters is showing for Kyle. I expect him though to have a very good season next year for the Barons (and the Knights).

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) 2 out in the bottom of the 16th with the Astros up 2 and no one on, Polanco walks bringing the tying Run to the plate in the form of Chase Utley. Problem is; Roy Oswalt is on deck. Here comes the intentional walk to get to the pitcher, tough way to end this one. Yea. Grounded out to end the game. To his credit though, I am glad he actually hit the pitch.
