QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) The latest from Barack Obama's Facebook news feed: http://www.slate.com/id/2234008/ These are hilarious if you follow them. Slate does those so well. That's great. The Ted Kennedy part made me laugh out loud. The Halloween costume bit was pretty good too.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Yes. (sorry, it was too easy). I thought churches that are tax exempt couldnt be politically active and tell their people what to do. I know where I work that the preachers couldnt not say "vote for this guy" or "oppose this policy".

Am i wrong in thinking this violates their tax-exempt status? Via HuffingtonPost-

QUOTE (SnB @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) former kane county cougar I've thought for a long time it would be great for the Sox to have the Cougars as a minor league affiliate. "Go see tomorrows stars today..."

I wonder if the plans are bigger than we heard about last year. I dont know if I would call the original drawings "an entertainment complex".

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) PS: I have an e-mail out to my mom... who is an RN... as to the specifics on the medical age of consent. Per my mom: "18 years is consent age. We cannot even discuss medical info with a parent once a child has turned 18, unless they give consent for release of info." Being that anyone under the age of 18 can not have a medical procedure without parental consent, then no abortion for a woman under the age of 18 should be allowed unless it is with parental consent.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_conse...n_North_America that's the sexual age of consent. i dont know if sexual AoC and medical AoC are different or the same.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) I'd like to hear people's perceived benefit for requiring the parental consent. Is it to avoid the abortion in the first place? To have a chance to scold their kid? I guess my counter question is this: at what age should a child be allowed to do whatever they want without a parents say? The whole reason behind parental consent is to maintain the authority structure of the family. Shouldn't the parent have say what the child does until a certain age? We can debate the age. but the law seems to say its anywhere between 16 and 18.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:04 PM) Saying "It's the law" doesn't answer his question about the purpose of teh law. I guess I misread the intent behind the question. I know the argument he is trying to make.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) I'd like to hear people's perceived benefit for requiring the parental consent. Is it to avoid the abortion in the first place? To have a chance to scold their kid? it's to abide by the rest of the law. If you cant get bigger boobies before the age of 18 without the parents signing off, what gives them the ability to have an abortion? If you want to use the "its their body" argument, then it should apply to this as well.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Would be interesting to hear some female commentary on the subject. After all, it's their bodies we're talking about. Per the request of the original posted, i aint goin' there.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) I believe it's 17, but 16 with parental consent. Whereas 15 is illegal with or without parental consent. If that is the case, then it is illegal to have an abortion under the age of 17 without a parent's signature. Simple as that. End of argument. None of this "well, tell the parents" stuff. no. If a 16 year old daughter cant get lipo without mom or dad's signature, then they dont have the "right" to have an abortion.

Age of consent in Illinois is 16, correct? I think the "if you can legally have sex, then do what you want" is a legit argument. I'll leave the argument about what age is demend "mature" enough to make decisions for another time. Strictly looking at the law, if the law requires you to be 18 (or 17, or 16... what ever the age is) before you can enter a legal contract and can make your own decisions with regards to medical procedures, then the "right" to have an abortion.. aka a major medical procedure... is not yours until that age. Simple as that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) They do have some money coming off of the payroll, plus they are looking for some help with the contract. ah ok. I didnt know how much was coming off.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) I could also see it being Detroit. They don't seem to mind lazy malcontents up there. I dot think there is anyway they can afford him. They have a hefty payroll and an economically depressed city.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) IMO, taking the abortion angle out of it completely, we as a society say that a 17 year old isn't mature enough to get a cell phone contract, or enter into other legal agreements. How can we as a society say that they are mature enough to decide, on their own, about a medical procedure. Could they go in and get plastic surgery without parental permission? ^^^^^^^^^

"It's a team that plays in a very mediocre division" - Central "has a few team officials familiar with Ramirez" - Who on the Sox? "and always needs a bump in notoriety" - You could argue the notoriety is in reference to a Cub centric town. Interesting, but not enough to make me think White Sox.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) Ive always thought that since the sox did such a good job with food, items like Hot Dogs, Polish, Italian Sausasge, Elotes, etc they it would be really cool of sox setup some of these foodstand outside of the park. Like in front of gate 3 or 5, near the home plate box office, in some of the parking lots where people gather. I think that would be so cool and give fans more reason to come early and stay late, of course it wouldnt cost much and it would provide some more revenue for the sox. Someone needs to forward these ideas to the Sox.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) Headline in the Tribune today: "Divisive Illinois abortion law goes into effect tomorrow" Medical providers must notify a parent or guardian when girl 17 and younger seeks abortion. Parents do NOT need to give consent...just be notified. Divisive?? I would think it's a very small minority that is against this. Curious on your thoughts, but please leave your 'Pro this /Anti that' opinions out of it. Parental consent comments only. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 12:52 PM) Most school systems now require parental consent for even giving a tylenol. Minors aren't allowed to enter into contracts without parental consent. But they can get an abortion without talking getting their parents permission? Crazy. 2k5, you summed it up right there. Now, my question is this: can a teenager undergo any medical procedure without parental consent? I dont know the laws on this? I was under the impression an adult had to sign off on any medical procedure a minor has. If so, then it SHOULD be applied to abortions as well.

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Just curious, would anyone trade Danks or Floyd straight up? No, put if we could move Paulie as part of a 3-team it might work. Not that Danks and Floyd are untouchable. But I REALLY like our rotation for the next 3 years.
-
QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) I think they should setup an area for street vendors. This is less permanent and less trendy. Something similar to what Chicago does for the taste. They could even have themes each time that allow for different vendor types. THat's an interesting idea. While that idea may or may not work, what they should TRY to do is find a way to make the park more of a "community" outside the park. Find a way to bring a neighborhood style to a bland ballpark community.
-
I'd trade Paulie in a heartbeat to get AG, but I dont see the Sox going after him.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) They should build a VIP parking garage which is attached to the park. I like that idea.
