QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) I wonder if Cheney's daughter is having some influence on him. Has to give a person a different perspective, to have it be so close to home. She waterboarded him into a lie. He really hates gay marriage, but he was forced to tell a lie to make it stop.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) If Coleman legitimately believes he has a case, he deserves to have his day before that state's supreme court. People around him and in the RNC have specifically said this isnt about getting Coleman in, it's about keeping Franken out as long as possible.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) Also not a stretch to say Biden completely made it up. The excerpt does make it clear if it was Biden who told the story, or if it was Wolffe who witnessed the interaction.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) Rendell Drinks The Obama Kool-Aid — Literally After Obama locked up the nomination, Pennsylvania Gov. and ardent Clinton supporter Ed Rendell got a note from an Obama supporter attached to a can of Kool-Aid telling him to drink up. HA! That's pretty funny.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:11 AM) No outrage from the DNC either, nor should there have been (not counting fringe people who flamed Bush for doing everything, they should just be factored out of the equation). Being the president is basically a 24/7 job. Even when they look like they're off-duty, they're really not. I'd like to see some of these people work 16, 18, 20 hours in a day for a few days and then have people criticize them when they take a break for a few hours. Based on the current state of the RNC, I'm guess many of them havent been working very hard.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 08:11 AM) Latest manufactured outrage: President Obama taking his wife on a date to NYC and whether or not taxpayers should be paying for it. News flash: the President has an expense account, and pretty much every president in history has done something like this. I heard no RNC outrage when Bush used AF1 to fly down to crawford for vacations and family time. Maybe he should have flown commerical and payed his own way. Ok, to piggy back on this. i recently saw a show on Discovery Channel that when behind the scenes of AF1. AF1 is a flying war room. In reality, when the president goes ANYWHERE, he either needs to be within a quick drive of DC, or moments away from AF1. So, if Obama goes to NYC for a data, AF1 should be close behind.

The universal studios bit was awesome. CIRCLE! CIRCLE!! CIRCLE!!! I thought the monologue was a little flat, but like he said, it's the first day and there are introductions that needed to be made. Richter was a bit flat and forced, but that will even out over time. I see good times ahead.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 29, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) My initial reaction is that I agree whole heartedly. I am willing to keep an open mind about it, however. I guess it depends on the specifics of the plan. Is a VAT designed as a replacement of sorts for income tax? If it's in addition to an income tax for the sole reason (or main reason) only to fund a national healthcare system I would vehemently oppose it. I'm just very skeptical of an additional tax that would affect every good or service I ever bought. NYS taxes 8.25% on most goods and that sucks enough as is. ok, so let me try and flesh this out a bit. The idea is, as I understand it, to replace most... if not all... of the income tax with a VAT. Ok, fine. but the argument is that this new VAT would not only cover the existing income form the income tax, but also add money for healthcare. So, wouldnt it just be easier... from a governing stand point, to just implement some sort of a healthcare tax rather than blow up the whole thing?

QUOTE (Disco72 @ May 29, 2009 -> 09:53 AM) The "talk" is about a Value Added Tax (VAT) which much of the world uses, and it would replace a large part of the income tax structure that currently exists. For example, see this article in the Washington Post. If implemented correctly, it is a much simpler tax system. the VAT is basically what Huckabee was recommending, right? He called it the "Fair Tax". I think i started a thread on that a while back. Many feel it taxes the poor too much, while leaving the rich with lower taxes. I dont like it.
