Oddly, not much coverage of this:

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) McCain camp's response to the increasingly angry mobs attending their rallies yelling things out like "traitor", "terrorist", and "kill him". So, not only do they DEFEND the comments, they then FALSELY attack Obama. Here is is quote: "It's easy to rile up a crowd by stoking anger and division. But that's not what we need right now in the United States." No where in there did he attack the McCain supporters. He attack the campaign for stoking the fire.

Tucker Bounds was just on MSNBC. When asked why his campaign hasn't run positive ads about McCain's economic policy and his vision, Bounds went into a rant about Ayers and Bill Daley. Never answered the question about why they haven't run a positive ad. In fact, it was as if he was implying that their negative attack ads about Obama were positive ads about McCain? WEIRD!

Why did the first bailout package fail to pass? Depends how politically expedient it is for McCain: Then: Now:

Have you guys seen Conan O'Brien that last two nights with his "wander McCain" bits? HYSTERICAL.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) Per CNN on Troopergate: The vote is expected at Noon central time. Now this is spin: They didnt interview her because she refused to be interviewed... claiming it was practically a witch hunt. And she'd know something about witch hunts I think they are really worried about this. There is a TON of pre-report spin.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) McCain is STILL on the Bill Ayers thing. No one cares about Bill Ayers when the stock market is completely tanking. If there wasn't a financial disaster going on, yea go after Obama's buddy Bill Ayers. McCain needs to address this financial madness. You didnt know Ayers was an economic terrorist?... oh wait... McCain and Palin's buddy was the economic terrorist. Ok, now in all seriousness, agreed. Petty stuff may be applicable in a super tight race to show a differance in judgement, but in probably the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression, I'd like to hear how he's save the economy other than "lower taxes". -
What are the scouts saying about the free agent cubans?

QUOTE (scenario @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) Add in that the Sox already have Cuban players on the team to help ease the new guys transition. I think it adds up to us being a serious contender for these guys. I think if managed properly, we could be the Cuban version of what the Mariners were to Japan a few years back. While they didnt land all the great players, they looked there first. Probably just a pipe dream since the BoSox and Yanks have lots of more money to throw around. -

I'll combine a couple of thoughts here. Alexie's great success this year might be a draw to Cuban's. Combine that with the comment made earlier that we have a Spanish speaking manager and we are in good shape to land some good talent if we want it. Not that it's the deal breaker, but it gives us a leg up I think. -
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) I've seen my 401k go up, I have seen it go down, and right now I am not even looking. I know we have most of our stuff in the safer investments, lower average returns but generally safer, and the lower price just allows us to purchase more 'units', so when it goes back up, which it will, we'll have even more money. As for the perceived value, what always used to piss me off was when a report would come out that said "profits fell by 20% over last year", and the stock price would tumble. Hello, they still MADE A PROFIT, just 20% less than last year. That's exactly my point. It's all about expectations. "Experts" say you should make X and when you only make 80% of X, you are looked at as a failure. Even if 80% of X is still dang good.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) We need to slap the people that are panic selling their stuff and taking a bath, when in most cases they should just sit tight and ride it out. They are helping to cause this by their own behavior. Alcoa went down $3 per share today. Is Alcoa really worth $3 less this afternoon that it was this morning? If you have bank stocks, maybe. That is what drives me NUTS about the stock market. i wotn get into it now, but stock prices are more often than not not related to the ACTUAL value of a company. It' persevered value. Yes I understand that s how a "free market" works, and I get that totally. But like you said, their overall value didnt go down $3.

Obama's MASSIVE TV Airtime Buy: I am going to bet this is a "lay out the details" show. You cant get very detailed on the stump or in debates. But with 30 minutes of just you talking, you can lay out VERY specific details. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) You can't shut down the markets for an extended period. there's a reason I called it drastic. The real point of this thread, not made clear by my (my fault), is to talk about solutions.

On a positive note: Oil prices closed at $84

DOW to 8579.19 at today's close. Might it be time to shut down the markets for a little while?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) It's ARG. Throw it out. Ok, let me re-think this out for a moment. On Sept 23, CNN had McCain only +4. Remember, WV is boarded by Ohio, PA, and Virginia. Since Sep 23 (Via RCP): PA: Obama +2.5 to Obama +13.8 (11.3 point swing) OH: McCain +1.6 to Obama +3.9 (5.5 point swing) VA: McCain +0.4 to Obama +5.1 (5.5 point swing) So, +8 might be much, but COMPLETELY plausible. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) same pollers saying he's only up 1 in Minnesota, I think they are just piss poor pollers. well see, now I am very conflicted. I have said on the record several times I really Like SurveyUSA. They have McCain +1 in MN, and now ARG (who I completely distrust) has Obama +1. Nearly Identical results. One from a pollster I trust and one from one I dont. All other polls have Obama t least +7. -

I gotta say, I'm lovin the hypocrisy these days. And it's coming from BOTH sides. Obama brings up Keating 5 and it's a "smear job" according the McCain Campaign. McCain brings up Ayres and it's a "questioning of Obama's judgement". Please. Both sides. Cut it out!
