2008 General Election Discussion Thread

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 03:33 PM) Just remember, whatever the polls say, add as much as 2 or 4% to McCain. The fear factor is still there for people to run from Obama, although its mitigated somewhat by the Palin effect. I would argue partially the opposite. These voter registration drive in places like VA, NC, and IN could boost Obama by 1-3% because pollsters don't know how to factor in new voters. -

Ok, party politics aside, at this point in the race with less than 28 days to go, what is the poll gap marker that tells you a candidate cant win that state? That's pretty poorly worded, so let me elaborate. If McCain is +5 in a state, is that a toss up? An uphill battle? Locked down for McCain? What if it's +3 or +10? We have said for a while to wait until we are closer to the election to see what states will really do on Nov 4th. Well, we are int he crunch. I set the number as +6 for a "lock" and +3 to +5 a uphill battle. Less than +3 is toss up. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) This is getting scary: A reporter who was there tells me what that unspecified epithet was: "Uppity negro." -
Quote of the Day (Fox News): So, facts arent facts unless the facts are fact checked by facts which are not facts unless fact checked by facts. My head hurts.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) His option vested a couple weeks ago, he's now guaranteed $13M next season. ahhhhhh ok. I didn't Know that. hmmm.... ok, I retract everything I've said in this thread. I need to rethink. I was basing my assumptions on more available money.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) Yeah, should be easy to find a trade partner for that guy. Dont we have to pick up his option? Or isnt their some buyout clause?

To Steal McCain's Line, How Dishonorable: "In the most obscene chapter in recent American history is the conduct of the Kosovo conflict when the president of the United States refused to prepare for ground operations, refused to have air power used effectively because he wanted them flying -- he had them flying at 15,000 feet where they killed innocent civilians because they were dropping bombs from such -- in high altitude."

Democratic Party Raises McCain's Town-Hall Meeting Performance Expectations for Tonight: They must feel Obama is going to do VERY well tonight.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) You're essentially replacing a guy who has put up OPS's of .865 and .973 the past two years with guys with career OPS's of .655 and .638. It's nice to have a high OPS if you arent a station to station runner.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) No he hasn't. He's been mediocre at best. He's made a few great plays but overall he's been below average at the position and I don't blame him, he's never played 2B before. He's had a few "out of position" plays. But in general I think he's done terrific. He's still learning. I think his ability to turn a double play makes it worth keeping him at 2B if we can land a solid SS.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) Yeah, I really think Furcal would fit well on this team and should be Kenny's top target. I'd presume he could play 2B? Why move him? He's good at SS and Ramirez has done GREAT at 2B.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) Apparentley, I did not. My bad. no big deal.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Fixed. Thome go bye bye. He cant catch up to the inside heat anymore.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) Give me Orlando Hudson or Rafael Furcal. 1) Furcal, SS 2) Ramirez, 2B 3) CQ, RF 4) Konerko, 1B 5) Dye, DH 6) AJ, C 7) Fields or Free Agent, 3B 8) Swish, LF 9) Anderson/Wise, CF I like the top, hate the bottom.. I'd love a shot at Chipper Jones and Furcal. Jones, Dye, and PK can rotate at DH.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 12:49 PM) Good. I hope he comes off as angry and bitter. That may play well for his base but will most likely be a turnoff for independents. Advisers worry about ‘grumpy McCain’

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) Is this one as good as the VA. one yesterday that had something like a plus 12-13 Dem advantage? I tend to trust SurveyUSA. My only concern is they have polls in other states that are off by as large as 10 points compated to other reputable polls. SUSA's VA poll is in the vacinity of other VA polls and this PA poll is a little larger than most, but most have Obama at least +6. -

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) Anyone know who is selecting which questions to be used? If it's NBC news, you guys have nothign to worry about. Probably Brokaw, and he's in McCain's Camp.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) Scarier, to me, is the crowd reaction. When you are villifying the other side as a terrorist socialist outsider who doesn't believe in the U.S., is it a surprise the reaction to him will get more violent? This is getting scary: -

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) I get that, and I'm not saying his tagline statement of approval was ok, but to me saying that himself would have unquestionably have been worse. To me, coming out and directly calling your opponents "Bozos" and unfavorably comparing their intelligence to a dog's still takes the booby prize What are your thoughts of McCain and Palin calling Obama unpatriotic and a terrorist sympathizer? Sounds a lot worse than bozo.
