QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) Link oh boy, I am going to delve into math in a moment, but I need to think it out a bit. But for those who want to see 2004's raw numbers, here is voter turn out in GA: 3,301,875 votes Demographic: 70% White, 25% African-American, 4% Latino, 1% Asian, 1% Other African-American: 12% Bush, 88% Kerry White: 76% Bush, 23% Kerry I am going to try an maybe extrapolate this out for 2008, but i"ll need some time and it'll probably be really bad math. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) While AHB may be showing some arrogance...I've seen virtually no signs from the campaign that they're taking anything for granted. They set on their plan for how they were going to build up to the election and they've stuck to it. I am VERY confident as a supporter. As a campaign, you work your butt off in every possible state until Nov 4th. -

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) The arrogance. if anything, will be the downfall. You can never assume that. Obama has MASSIVE leads in important battle ground states (WI, MN, PA, MI). At this point, all Obama needs to do is win Colorado, Nevada, Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Virginia, or North Carolina. And ONE of those and Obama is the president. And he currently leads by a large amount in VA, and marginally in Nevada, Colorado, Florida and Ohio. -

I'm starting to wonder if we should stop talking about Obama v McCain and move onto the senate and house races. This is how the Senate races look: -
Those who hire Saddam lobbyists, shouldn't attack "terrorist sympathizers"

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) Do Murph and Boers/Bernstein actually hate each other? I'll preface this as someone who interned at the Score for a summerr 4 years ago. Murph is not well liked by anyone. He's very full of himself. I was interning for North (that's a story in and off itself). I was asked to create the opening sequence to his JagBag segment. I included a caller JagBagging Murph because it was funny. I was told by the producers to never ever use a JagBag of Murph again because they didnt want Murph storming in and b****ing them out. BandB also hated North. It's a long story. But they once spent a commercial break talking about how Mike doesnt give his producers much of a chance to have "up ward mobility". Basically saying he wont allow his producers to be creative and advance themselves. BandB, on the other hand, have had a TON of their producers go on to do other things within the station and around the country. I have a few other stories, but I cant really comment on the on the record. Some of you have heard my rants about JenJen before. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) I like 538's chart the best. Rasmussen has Obama ahead in FL outside the margin or error (which is really big news) and there was a +2 for Obama in North Dakota. yea, i noticed the Florida poll. Florida keeps looking better every week. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) 538 hasnt posted yet today, and I know/have a feeling there will be some real shockers in there. does 538 get polls before RCP or the general public? Because, I've seen all the polls posted so far today. nothing shocking or anything that makes me jump up and down. -

Should Election Day Be a Holiday?
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) If any politician ever suggested merging those two holidays, they'd never be elected to office again. And I think its a bad idea anyway. The importance of those two holidays, IMO, is right in line with the importance of voting - it is what makes this country great. I agree on your first point about elected officials. But as someone who has been involved in organizing Memorial Day Observances, these events are as much about living veterans then the dead ones. The point of Veterans Day is to remember those who are living. Memorial Day practically already is a merged holiday. Let's leave this debate for another day. -
Should Election Day Be a Holiday?
HuskyCaucasian replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) Problem with your suggestion is, you replace a minor holiday (which means, few people actually get the day off), with a major one (most people get the day off), you are taking away productivity in the economy. But, overall, I actually think this is a good idea. I'd get rid of Columbus Day, which is more of an insult (and a historically inaccurate one) than a holiday anyway. I vote to merge Veterans Day and Memorial into a single observance on May and use the gap in November left behind by Veterans Day and make election day holiday. -
A comment made in the General Election thread made me think this might be a good debate. Should the United States dump one of the "minor" holidays and replace it with an Election Day holiday?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Now if Nov 2 was a holiday where there was no work, I could see the argument that they had plenty of time to vote. I'd rather have that than Columbus Day. And PS: it's Nov 4, not 2md. -

Just wanted to get your thoughts on this, and I know some people will disagree.... If one week from now, two weeks until the election, Barack Obama still has a VERY strong lead, do you think McCain will start to tone down the harsh rhetoric and try to recover his honor by going down softly? -
35. no doubt.

Looks like McCain is unofficially pulling out of Pennsylvania Would "contested states in the upper Midwest" mean Wisconsin and Minnesota? It seems like McCain is making his last stand in Ohio, Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Colorado, and Nevada. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) By the way, McCain is now Robocalling Iowans saying McCain came running to Iowa to survey the damage while Obama and Congress took a vacation. And by the way, it's FEMA's job to help flood victims, not congress. I guess he forgot the part where he came to Iowa AGAINST the wishes of state officials who didn't want Obama or McCain's large entourages to interfere with flood relief. Quick follow up to this, I had forgotten, but Obama used his e-mail list to solicit financial help for Red Cross relief in Iowa and rallied volunteers to help.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Paul Krugman wins the "Nobel Prize" (Slightly renamed) in Economics. damn liberal Nobel Prize panel.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) Here's another pretty catch from over the weekend. The Washington Post's definition of tossup/lean McCain/lean Obama. it's just the media trying to not seem like they are pulling for Obama and keep the drama. Ohh... PA is a toss up. umm.. no. not really. If they were honest and looked at the polls, all they'd have to say is that "based on CURRENT polling, Obama would win the election by a landslide, but this can change from day to day".

yea, the Chinese part was hysterical, but the rape part... not so much. I've never been a fan of making fun of rape, so this wasn't on my good side already. And, to me, it took forever to tie in the rape reference to Indiana Jones.

PS: Here's the poll closing times for all the states. based on poll closing, we might have a pretty good idea of how this election will be going right after the first polls close at 6 and 6:30 central time. States include Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina, and Ohio. If Obama wins any 2 of those states, it's almost a LOCK for him to win. And the fact that he wins two of those states probably means he'll win most of the other toss-up states as well. However, if he loses all 4, then we are heading right on into a potential electoral college tie. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) Missouri predicts presidents. Virginia's just trying to be cool. Let me try this angle: We'll know the results from VA before we know the results from Mizu.
