  1. New York to unveil redesigned Freedom Tower Updated plans intended to make ground zero building more bomb-resistant The Associated Press Updated: 9:03 a.m. ET June 29, 2005 NEW YORK - After concerns were raised about security at the soaring skyscraper proposed as the centerpiece of the former World Trade Center site, architects went back to the drawing board. On Wednesday, officials were to unveil a more bomb-resistant design for the 1,776-foot Freedom Tower, which is to offer 2.6 million square feet of office space and is expected to become the world’s tallest building. In an effort to make it more resistant to truck bombs, the building has been moved farther from West Street, a major North-South throughway along the West side of Manhattan. The distance from the street was increased from 25 to an average of 90 feet. The updated plans also call for reinforcing the middle of the tower and having it capped with a mast incorporating an antenna, meant to suggest the torch of the Statue of Liberty. The redesign is meant to signal a newly aggressive effort to rebuild the 16 acres devastated by the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center. “The redesign of the Freedom Tower shows how our city is able to respond to the opportunities and challenges of our time,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg in a statement. Gov. George Pataki laid the tower’s cornerstone on July 4, 2004, but the last year has seen more fighting than progress by the agencies and individuals responsible for rebuilding. The security concerns likely delayed the tower’s original 2009 ribbon-cutting by at least a year. © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. 3. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) when are the sox going to get a new retractable system? THere's a lovely tract of land in Elk Grove I wouldnt mind seeing the White Sox occupy Here is the skyview
  4. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) JR just confirmed Farmer and Rooney are coming with the team to the Score. If i am not mistaken, the broadcast teams are hired y the TEAM not the station they air on. So, they go where the team goes. Hence why Hawk and DJ broadcast on WGN, CCSN, and WCIU.
  5. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) I wonder what MVP will do to counter. Blackhawk hockey? lol Ok, just kidding. Well, the Bulls are their once shot. THe Bears recently re-upped with WBBM and the Cubs will never leave WGN. Illinois signed with WIND (560 AM) So, that leaves the Blackhawks and NIU or Northwestern if they leave WGN. It doenst look good for 1000.
  6. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) I didn't think about this. Thats definitely a good thing. I've driven to Colorado a few times in my life and we can get the Score well into Nebraska. Its hard to get WMVP past Rockford. I can second that. My fiancee's family is from near Iowa City, Iowa, so we go out there about once a month. THis last weekend we were out there, but I couldnt get a Sox game because I lost 1000 soon after we pased DeKalb. However, i got The Score all the way to her house. Yes it cuts out from time to time if you are near power lines or in a valley. But other than that,it's great!
  7. It should be noted, the renderings of the stadium with a retractable roof are old. It will NOT have any roof of any kind. Externally, it is an almost exact replica of what Yankee Stadium looked like back in 1923. Internally, it is the same configuration as the current stadium with a modern twist. It looks real slick.
  8. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) Who thinks the mainstream liberal media is going to expose this one? That's an interesting point. i was watching a think on CSPAN last week. It was a House panel and freedom of the press. Basically, it was a bunch of Democrate house members and Air America people b****ing about how the media is not "liberal" as everyone claimes. It is actually very right wing. it was interesting and they raised some legit points.
  9. My mom worked in Labor and Delivery for years and she has MANY examples of birth rates jumping after a major snow storm. They used to mark snow storms down so they can anticipate a busy time 9 months from then.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) I think they should play in the shaumburg flyers stadiums so its only 5 minutes away from me, and right by a train stop I know the Sox wont move out here, but I wouldnt mind seeing the Cubs build right there if Schaunburg is willing to sell them the stadium (and fold the team). There is plenty of land around the park to add more parking (one residential area would have to be torn down however). (See link to see the arial view.) It's right off the Elgin O'Hare which conects to 290. It is also located near a major train station. Will this happen, probably never, but you never know. If the Cubs dont want it, I sure hope the Sox consider it when their current lease runs out in 20 some odd years. I know it would suck to have my enemy in my backyard, but I like to think outside the box and this would be a possiblily.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) I think they should play in the shaumburg flyers stadiums so its only 5 minutes away from me, and right by a train stop On a serious side note, I too live near there and i would LOVE to see the Flyers leave the Northern League and become a minor leage affiliate to the White Sox. Just a side wish of mine, but that would be sweet.
  12. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) I can't read minds, but I think he's referring to the continued makeover of the Bridgeport neighborhood, as well as the neighborhood directly across the Ryan. I agree to an extent. But how much better can the "area" be when the stadium is parked right next to a major expressway? "Atmosphere" wise, ANY ballpark is better off in either it's own isolated area (Dodger Stadium) or in an Urban environment (Coors Field/Wrigely Field).
  13. DRAT! We'll be missing out on these...
  14. I just can’t stand the people who are calling Deep Throat a turncoat or someone who betrayed his nation. I'm sorry, but if there is significant illegal activity going on in the government, I applaud anyone who is willing to risk their job and their life to expose these crimes. Now, only if a few people would do the same thing within this administration.....
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 31, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) This article brings only 1 thing to my mind. "If the White Sox don't win the world series...THEN THE TERRORISTS WIN!" *Does best Bush impersonation* "For the sake of defeating the evil doers, them.... them..... White... Sox... I got my self a pair of them on right now.....their comfy, need to win the World Series. It's for the good of America."

  18. QUOTE(whitesoxmurph @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:32 PM) Danica Patrick is big enough where it counts Gordon, she's got bigger balls than you. Great line! Also, race car drives have said for years that they are athelets. Well, Patrick weighs less then Gordon and probably has less muscle, yet is a better driver. Wouldn't that make her a better athlete than him? hmmmm......

  23. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Well Reynolds was a 4 time gold glover and an all-star(then again, that was when the M's weren't good). i looked up that comment about the M's. The ONLY reason he made the all-star team is because he was fast. He stole 60 bases that season. other than that, he bated .275 with only a handfull of RBIs and a LOW on-base-percentage of .325. His 1988 stats were similar, but also not deserving. Reynalds is worse than Randy Winn!!!!
  24. QUOTE(Brian @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Everytime I see or hear Harold Reynolds, I keep trying to think of what the guy ever did in his baseball career that would make me want to listen to what he has to say. Did you see the Baseball tonight where he was talking about a game he made an error on a popfly and the production crew found a clip they THOUGHT was that, but when it played it was a differant one. It made Reynolds look like a horrible fielder. I laughed.
