  1. 44. Herbert Perry (4 of 27 lists - 49 points - highest ranking #1 Milkman delivers) bio by wikipedia, knightni and Milkman delivers - He was arguably the clutchest player in 2000, and one of the few players that didn't disappear in the short playoff stint. That he was an unknown player throughout the league when we got him, and how he was hardly noticed when we acquired him. He he actually owned a dairy farm, and has arguably the best nickname in the history of professional sports, or at least the White Sox. This nickname seemed to have a duplicitous meaning during his years for the White Sox, because many fans thought he had the nickname "Milkman" due to the fact that he always "delivered" in a clutch situation. Currently residing in the small town of Mayo, Florida he now coaches the Lafayette County baseball team, the Lafayette Hornets. He was a good third baseman on the 2000 AL Central Champs team and was the final bridge between the Robin Ventura and Joe Crede eras. 3. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 01:28 AM) Please no, he's been our starting 2B and SS, we don't need him to take over 3B too. I know. How can a guy who hits as awesomely profundo as Juannie, play all three positions at one time?
  4. 45. Pablo Ozuna (4 of 27 lists - 46 points - highest ranking #5 rangercal) bio by Texsox - “Pablo Ozuna can play all three outfield positions and all four infield positions. General Manager Ken Williams has joked that he would consider playing Ozuna at catcher if needed.” From the wiki on Ozuna. How can you not cheer for perhaps the most versatile player to ever don a White Sox uniform? Not a high draft pick, not gifted with outstanding size or speed. So he scraps and claws and finds a position on a MLB squad. Five teams in 10 years. But he plays and usually seems to be having fun doing it. Perhaps his most memorable moment in baseball was during the 2005 ALCS as a pinch runner for AJ Pierzynski. After AJ advanced to first on a heads up play, the infamous dropped third strike (we do not need to go there) Ozuna came in, stole second, then scored the game winning run when Crede doubled off the wall. The most memorable Pablo moment to me was the walk-off bunt single against he A's in 2006. The "Frank Thomas Returns" - Soxtalk Patio Party Game. Pablo spoiled two HRs served up by Jon Garland to the Big Hurt - and a squirrel ran around on the field for 15 minutes. Good times. 5. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) Nothing there but truth. Except that Dawson was a DH for Boston for a little while.
  6. "Somewhere, Carl Everett is in a corner, rocking back and forth, and quietly sobbing to himself."
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) White Sox sign Julio Franco to a one year deal. AWESOME X2
  8. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) "So Barry, any other side effects from steroid withdrawl?" AWESOME.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) Have at it... "I've heard of Old Timer's Day, but this is ridiculous!"
  10. Amazing. A humorous thread about Redneck jokes is turned into a patriotism argument.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) I promise to collect voluntary donations and give the money to a worthy charity. BearSox's Broken Bones Hospital Bills Fund.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) God, I hope not. If we enter another season with him as a starter for us, I might jump off a building. Two questions: 1. How tall of a building? 2. Will there be tickets sold?
  13. Greyhound: "It's Dinner And A Show!"
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:05 PM) Harold Baines doesn't have anywhere near hall of fame numbers. 2,866 hits isn't veterans' committee worthy?
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:45 AM) Yeah, a player a team drafted up for with all the physical tools in the world but after 2 seasons found out he sucked in the head and the legs and couldn't become anything more than Patrick Ramsey (who coincidentally went to the same school as him)? Please tell me you aren't, in any way, shape, or form, comparing JP Losman to Brett Favre. Please. Please tell me that you read what I replied to. I was comparing Rodgers to Losman.
  16. I forgot the second half of greg's bio. heh.
  17. More bio stuff added. Thanks guys!
  18. 46. Gary Peters (2 of 27 lists - 45 points - highest ranking #2 greg775) Peters was an awesome pitcher on some piss-poor Sox teams. bios by Texsox and greg775 - Texsox - What can be more exciting than a player who earns Rookie of the Year honors? In the past few decades, the White Sox have had several ROTY on their roster. Whether it is fiery defense like Ozzie Guillen in 1985, towering roof top shots like Ron Kittle (1983) or less know to current Sox fans, stellar pitching like Gary Peters in 1963. From 1963 until being traded to the Red Sox in 1969 Peters was a solid part of the Sox rotation. An All-Star in 1964 and 1967 he led the league in ERA in both 1963 and 1966. Along with Dean Chance, he led the league in wins during the 1964. What made him a fan favorite, and earned him a spot on Soxtalk’s 50 Favorite Player list, was his rookie and sophomore years. Coming out of the gate in his first MLB season he compiled a 19-8 record and names like Cy Young were used for comparison. Proving his rookie year was no fluke; the following season he added to his win total and went 20-8 in 1964. greg775 - Gary Peters was my favorite player as a young kid for two reasons. • The guy could pitch. The tall lefty (at least I think he was tall; that's how I remember him) had a super fluid delivery and for a couple of seasons was pretty much unhittable during an era in which pitchers dominated. • The guy also could hit. Tony LaRussa probably stole the idea of batting his pitchers eighth from the White Sox who batted Peters I believe sixth or so a game or two simply because the guy could hit. I'll never forget being sent to bed and sneaking out my radio to listen to a Sox-Cleveland game. Peters entered the game as a pinch hitter and I believe whacked a game winning homer, or at the least a game winning hit to win an extra inning game. It was so neat to root for a pitcher who also could hit the ball. To this day, I'd love to locate some old clips of him hitting and pitching. I don't remember ever seeing him get interviewed on TV and still know little about him. I think he lives in Sarasota now as I recall from some item regarding the all Century team. For those of you who don't know much about Peters, believe me. He was a stud. Great pitcher. Good hitter. Great memories of the guy. 19. 47. Greg Luzinski (4 of 27 lists - 43 points - highest ranking #8 Middle Buffalo) Imagine if Bobby Jenks was a hitter. You have Greg Luzinski. Bios by Texsox and YASNY Texsox - Being a hometown guy is a huge head start in becoming a fan favorite. If you are a prototype slugger with a lunch bucket approach to the game, a four time all-star, and tons of personality, you pretty much can write your ticket. The youngin’s on the list may be thinking Jim Thome right now, and wondering why he is ranked so low. For those Soxtalk members with a mortgage and child seats in their SUVs, they know it must be Niles’ own “The Bull”. Greg Luzinski was a big part of the 1983 Winning Ugly team that came along right when I was getting out of college, had some disposable income, and could attend games, lots of games. During the previous off season Jerry Reinsdorf and Co. outbid the world for the top free agent, Floyd “The Barber” Bannister, paying the unheard of sum of 5/$4.5 and drawing the ire of George Steinbrenner who felt the spending was excessive. LOL! How about some offensive to go with that pitching? If you have never been to the “real” Sox Park, Comiskey, and witnessed, in person, a rooftop shot, you will not understand the goose bumps I get as I type this. That season the Sox had Harold Baines, the rookie Ron Kittle, and Luzinski all crushing balls off the roof. I was lucky enough to be sitting down the right field line as Luzinski launched one. I had never witnessed a baseball travelling that far. Talk about Hey Hey GOOD BYE!! The explosion of the scoreboard, the other fans, wow, just wow. I could probably list almost every player on that team as a favorite, but everyone loves the long ball. YASNY - Greg "The Bull" Luzinski was a big part of the '83 AL Western Division champion White Sox. My personal best memory of Luzinski was that he hit the only 'rooftop shot' I ever saw in person at Comiskey Park. He hit it off of Dennis 'Oil Can' Boyd and BoSox LF Jim Rice didn't even take a step. He just turned and watched it land on the roof. The Bull played for the Sox from '81 through '84 and his OPS+ for the first 3 seasons was never lower than 129. His last season in the Majors was 1984. He played with Philadelphia after debuting with then in 1970 through 1980. Luzinski was, along with Ron Kittle, Carlton Fisk and Harold Baines, part of a lineup in '83 that was one of the most successful and memorable Sox squads in quite some time. In fact, this was the first Sox team that I can actually recall finishing in first place, since I wasn't quite 2 years old when the Sox won the pennant in '59. Please feel free to comment with any more info and favorite stories about this player or any other in this list.
  20. If they're 7pm CT games, they'd be around 2pm, I think. NFL Sunday games would be breakfast events, though.

    i am drunk

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:41 AM) Hello gentlemen and ladies. Are you drunk when you start singing the Titanic love song out loud? Nope. Just out of the closet.
  22. QUOTE (Shadows @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:39 AM) haha did anybody else catch part of the trade that says the Jets owe the Packers 3 1st round picks if they turn around and deal him to Minnesota It never said anything about Detroit or Chicago, though - did it?
  23. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:33 AM) Can you imagine if Aaron Rodgers isn't good this year, atleast well above average? The cheeseheads will be livid and rightfully so. Hah, I really hope he sucks. If I had to speculate this early, I figure that he'd be along the lines of a J.P. Losman.
  24. Just think of the money that they'll be saving!
  25. That depends on whether she was opening beer bottles with her buck teeth at the time or not.
