  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 3, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) What are the qualifications to be a hitting coach anyway? I would assume minor league hitting instructor experience, which Walker had. But, how good was he? Rowand was about the last home-grown hitter we've had that succeeded in the majors, and even he slumped after '04 when Walker was out of the minors and on the Sox. This is Walker's first mlb job, I think.
  2. I wonder how much JR's loyalty to Walker is keeping him employed? Ever since he had that seizure and had to retire, I think JR's had a soft spot for him.
  3. But that's the point. Walker is not skilled in the ability to teach in-depth when it comes to teaching the art of hitting. That's why the Sox should either get him that training, or let him go. This is the fourth season in the last five that, for the most part, the entire team goes into a slump hitting-wise and Walker appears to be flummoxed as to how to rectify the situation. Is it coincedence that the new arrival player seems to be least affected by the slump each year? 2004: Rowand 2005: Iguchi/Dye 2006: Thome 2007: Fields 2008: Quentin
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 3, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) The overage you make on the booze sales could help with the extra usher costs, or you even add a dollar or two to the movie price. What do you get? A theater with adults in it, no kids, and a respectful audience. All for a dollar or two more per person. I would gladly pay that difference for the experience. You could also do this as only part of the theatre - these X number of screens are on the other side of the bar, the rest can be normal screens for families, teenagers, etc. There's a theater here that restricts sales to anyone under 13. They have only PG-13 or R rated movies there. No children under 13 are allowed in the theater. Even with parents. The "kids" theater is in another part of town. They charge like, 2 bucks more, but have nice surround sound and comfy chairs. So, the only annoyance is the occasional cell phone going off.

  8. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) I'd really rather avoid trading another slugger for a speedy offensive player. Don't forget that there's a huge whole at SS next season also. The problem is that most of our power guys are plodders. They can't get from 1st to 3rd on a single as often as they need to. That's one of the reasons why the run production is down and left on base is up so far. Guys aren't taking advantage of the hits and getting the extra base.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Yesterday was a great day for the Cubs....Gallardo tore his ACL. I'm sure that TalkCubs would love to hear about that.
  10. The solution is probably trading Dye, Konerko or Thome for a speedier 2B in the offseason.
  11. If he played for Chicago, he counts.
  12. A strings walks up to a bar. He orders a drink but the bartender throws him out and yells "We don't serve strings in this bar!" The string gets up off the ground, roughs up himself, curls up and goes back inside the bar. The bartender shouts, "Hey, didn't you hear what I said?" The string says "Yeah." The bartender says, "Aren't you a string?" The string says, "No, I'm a frayed knot..."
  13. What's green and sings? Elvis Parsley
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2008 -> 01:15 AM) What time is it when the clock strikes the 13th hour? Time to get a new clock In a related story, I steal jokes off of Laffy Taffy wrappers. What do Astronauts eat in their sandwiches? Launch Meat.
  15. So, I'm wondering.. Would anyone be interested in doing a writeup or two regarding your favorite guy(s) on the list? We might be using this list to promote talkchicagosports.
  16. I'd rather have Alex English. He's a disciplinarian.
  17. Ben Hansbrough, guard at Mississippi St. (Tyler's brother), will be transferring to Notre Dame this fall. http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/8085842...g-to-Notre-Dame
  18. It sucks having Prince Fielder, Troy Tulowitski and Carlos Beltran on your bench.
  19. Columbia College of Chicago students are getting free tickets to see Ok Go in Grant Park on May 16. Lucky bastards.
  20. Does this signal the Bulls coming to The Score?
  21. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 1, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) Stern isn't going to do anything that prohibits the Celtics from winning the opening series. He's dreaming up a Lakers/Celtics matchup like a good portion of the fans are. I think Dbaho and I could agree that we want to see a Magic/Jazz matchup, haha, that's obviously highly unlikely, considering the Jazz haven't even won their series, but it'd be funny to have a matchup like that instead of the highly anticipated Lakers/Celtics. Maybe a Boston/Utah series.
