QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) What the hell are you talking about? No I don't, and no I don't. you don't make any sense either. Here you're telling us to sit back and enjoy this first place team lose to the Royals, yet you can't sit back and enjoy the Bulls be in first place? You're always crying. It's not just the Royals. The first place Bulls? what? -

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) You should just stop trying to be the forum police telling everyone what they should think and how they should post let's not panic, but let's not pretend everything is peachy either. We've played like crap against this team. You just don't make any sense. You've got Patrick Beverly practically on the all-star team yet you're always crying when the Sox are losing. -

QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Yeah, no need to try to pick up any games. 1 1/2 is a ton. And I'm sure Tiger fans are saying to themselves that despite the fact the White Sox are struggling with the s***ty Royals that they can't seem to overtake them. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) We're close to getting swept by the Royals, the team with the worst record in the AL. You know how embarrassing and f***ing pathetic that is? And if the Tigers lose (they were losing 7-5 last time I checked) they'll still be up 1.5 games. -

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 02:10 PM) oh put a sock in it already. A lot of people are slightly perturbed at what they've seen out of the sox in this series. Being slightly perturbed and expressing it on a forum is no big deal. Did you really just say perturbed? wtf? Well, I'm perturbed at you. One, your post count is ridiculous. Two, your Bulls love is pathetic. Three, be quiet and enjoy this first place team. -

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) I ain't even mad. It's comical at this point. You do realize it's 0-0, right? It's comical that the Bulls, a franchise that's done basically nothing outside of 1 run to the conference finals since 23, can do no wrong in your mind. Yet you continue to whine like a little girl despite the Sox being in first place. -
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) Basically when retaining your own guys, the only question is how much luxury tax money you want to pay. I have no idea what OKC's approach to this is, though the assumption would be since they're not a major market they'd want to try to avoid spending significantly over it. Since these deals are usually backloaded, they might have some serious struggles with that. Even assuming $12 mil each year for both Ibaka and Harden, they're between $55 and 60 mil for their big 4 starting in 2013/2014 (Harden and Ibaka have one more rookie deal year left) and 2015/2016 (last year of Durant's deal). That doesn't leave a ton of wiggle room under the $70 mil-ish luxury tax, especially since Perkins still has 3 years left (including this year). They may have to amnesty Perkins after this season. One thing in their favor is that they weren't a luxury tax team last year and won't be this year either, so they won't hit the super-ridiculous rates in the repeat offender range like the Lakers and Heat will. Thanks, zoom. This is why I waited for you. I truly feel retarded (sorry, Kyyle. I know you hate that word) when it comes to the money side of the nba. I wait for zoom in nba and Kalapse in baseball.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) Absolutely not. They are as bad as this team. This season is ova. This. Team. Is. Dead. The overreactions are amazing. Have you been paying attention all season, or just want to take one bad inning as the sample? I had this team losing like 95 games this year. They have to go 25-19 (more than doable) to win 90 games. I can't even find anything to b**** about. I just have to make fun of wite to get by.
-
ok. Now it's alright to b****. This is terrible.

QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 06:48 PM) 1-0 is the same as 5-0 vs. the Royals for whatever reason. Weren't we supposed to get swept by the Blue Jays because of what had happened in the past?
-
Just tuning in. I thought it was 5-0 or something. It's 1-0, people. Let's calm down just a little bit.
-
Well, Ibake isn't going anywhere. Just signed a 4-year extension. So that leaves Harden. I read multiple articles a couple weeks ago saying he's "pretty sure" he'll resign with the Thunder. I have no idea how they'll pull this off (this is where I wait for zoom to chime in).

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 09:27 PM) Who threw one last year? Good catch. I had Dallas Braden's perfect game coming in 2011 for some reason. Still, that's 6 since 2009 (7 if you count the Armando Galarraga robbery). Why are we still treating this as some ultra-rare feat? It just isn't anymore. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) I don't know if that's true. I do think there is a great divide between the aces and the very good and there is an even bigger drop off after that. I look at some older players who are suppose to be on the downside like AJ and Jeter and they are having abnormal seasons. I disagree. With latin america, cuba, japan, etc, we've never had this many elite-semi-elite pitchers, starters and 'pen, at one time. What made the Braves of the 90's so special? They had 3 #1 starting pitchers. These days, at least one team in each division just about can say they have a dominant 1-2-3 in their rotation. The "nasty boys" from the early 90's were special because no team in the league had that many fireballers in their 'pen. These days, half the league has that.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) I was forewarned about the gamethreads by Tex when I joined Soxtalk from that other Sox site. That was 7 years ago. Some things never change. Check out Sonsofsamhorn. This is kiddie s*** compared to that board. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) There has been some stud pitchers coming up the last few years, but some guys far from studs have thrown perfect games. I think some of it has to do with how the offensive approach has changed. There are a ton more strikeouts in today's game which lessens the chance of a cheap hit. Scouting and defense have never been better. That also plays a role. Hey, if the perfect game still puts some people in awe, fine. Me? It loses its luster when it happens every year.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) Still only been 23 in history of MLB. That's fine. And that's my point. What percentage of those have come in the last 4 years? It's just not as big as it once was. The pitching today is the best it's ever been. These arms being produced every year just baffles me. Velocity is way up. Seems like everybody has a + breaking ball to go with that velocity. Babe Ruth would be John Kruk in today's game.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) This is what Dunn does. He goes down to .203 or .204 doing nothing, and then gets it back up to .215 to .218 with damage. Yup. Just have to live with it. There's no inbetween with him. He can hit 7 HRs in a week or go 1 for 21 with 17 Ks. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:18 PM) Perfect games are cool, especially when the dude is Felix Hernandez and he strikes out 12 guys. No hitters where the guy walks 6 and strikes out 7 or something stupid like that...those are dumb. The "omg, I just witnessed a perfect game" factor is just gone for me. We've seen too many in the last 4 years (not even counting Galaraga's).
-
Zzzzzzzzzzz@another perfect game. It just doesn't do anything for me anymore.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2012 -> 11:29 PM) Gordon is pretty overrated though. He's not a true max player and you aren't going to win a title with him as your 2nd best player. The Hornets didn't do all that good for Paul either. It was better then the Lakers offer, but still. The reality is when you deal a super star, you typically are going to be the big loser, unless of course you get lots of cheap young players and draft picks and then just a couple expirings. However, rarely does that happen. And in the Magic case, they got some solid players, and a bunch of picks that will be relatively worthless (nothing that will be a high lottery pick). Gotta disagree with you , Jason. Eric Gordon is a baller when he's on the court. That's the problem. He's always hurt.

QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) Not directed at you man, but count me among the many who tire easily of the "'roids" explanation for ALL (seeming) baseball statistical anomalies. Sure, this generation of ball players deserve that as a whole because so many have indeed been on the juice. But, for well over a century, veteran players have the ubiquitous "career year," sometimes almost out of nowhere, and I'd venture to say that "performance enhancing" drugs or substances have been the actual reason why in very few situations (although clearly more recently). More often than not, better training or conditioning, corrected vision, slightly tinkered mechanics, new mental approaches, and some combination of all, are more plausible reasons why a particular player with no hint of substance abuse rolls out that career year. The difference between a player who has consistently hit hard topspin line-drives throughout a long and successful career as a solid hitter and one who now hits hard lofted flyballs with backspin is literally eights of an inch and/or virtually imperceptible changes in swing plane. As I see it AJ is hitting the ball hard like he did all of his career, only (a) he's pulling it more, and especially (b) he's getting loft. I think most of us have seen this say on the golf course -- where you suddenly have a month period (or hopefully more) when you're just blowing past your previous long drives over and over again. I saw this a few summers back in Park District softball -- where I was a 2-3 home run a SEASON hitter, but for one storied year (not repeated the next year), I became a feared 1-2 home run a GAME hitter, just because I inexplicably started getting incredible backspin and loft on my fly balls. I doubt very much that AJ is suddenly on the juice. I think he's having a storied career year and he and we should enjoy the ride. (As a separate matter, it's one of many reasons why I'd be really careful of extending him into the future at too great a salary because career years are called "career years" for a reason. Peace all ... and ... GO SOX! I was kidding when I said AJ was on juice. I just think it's funny that when a player on another team (mainly a team you dislike) is having a career year at an advanced age out of nowhere, it's assumed by many that he's on something. But when said player is on YOUR team, not a peep. lol.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 11, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) I played some 2K with updated rosters (for this off-season). I actually liked playing with this current team more than last year's. Radmod is deadly at 3s. Better than Korver (in the game, that is). Having Hinrich, Robinson, and Bellinelli off the bench was very nice. When this roster is completely healthy, I can see it being pretty good (in real life). That's it. I'm taking a shot whenever the term "completely healthy" and the Bulls are brought up together. I should be dead by next week.

lol. Yeah, I'd say it worked out a little better than ok, jerry.
