  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 10:13 PM) I doubt it. Only the 8th seeded Pacers were sub-.500 and in the playoffs last year. Just barely. The Knicks and Sixers got in with 42 and 41 wins. In a shortened season, I think you'll see more than one team get in with a below .500 record.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 10:06 PM) You can literally tell who the 8 playoff teams already. Heat, Bulls, Sixers, Celtics, Pacers, Hawks, Magic, and Knicks. There's a 95% those teams make the playoffs. And you know at least two, if not three, of those teams will get in with sub-.500 records.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Besides the fact that 2 of the best 3 teams in the league are from the East. Yes, because two teams make a conference. You've basically got 2 legitimate contenders, a couple above average teams, and lottery s***.
  4. I completely underestimated how bad the eastern conference is. It's borderline early 2000's bad.
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 11:03 AM) What was the farm system ranked before the Hudson trade? Again, if Sale turns out to be a top of the rotation starter to go along with Hudson . . . That might not be top 5, but it isn't bottom 5 either and certainly not dead last. Throw Molina in the mix and there's a possibility that by 2014 the worst system in baseball produced 3 front of the rotation starters. lol. So the Sox get credit for Hudson, even though they foolishly and inexplicably traded him after three starts?
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 09:25 AM) Wow, Castro's our 3rd best prospect? This is somehow surprising?
  7. But I thought only Keith Law made disparaging remarks about the White Sox farm system?
  8. Reds Sign Madson Only 1 year at 8.5 million? That's a steep drop from the 4/44 he was supposedly close to signing last year. Looks like Boras botched this one. Anyway, great deal for the Reds. They've had quite an off-season.
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 06:56 PM) I for one hope the Sox are never a top farm system. Nothing worse IMO. You have absolutely nothing to worry about.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) If Sale and Molina are top of the rotation starters, Reed is a top tier closer, Morel is an everyday 3B, and Beckham develops, that's pretty good production from one of the worst rated farm systems over the last three years. Ya think?
  11. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 05:49 PM) Can somebody explain the jizzfest for the Jay's to me? Baseball America says they have a great farm? Awesome. Whens the last time they went to the playoffs? Prospect love is one of the biggest heists on the internet. Prospect sites like BA, BP and Minor league ball are there to, well, talk about, break down and evaluate prospects. That's what they do. They don't care about when the last time a team made the playoffs was. The Blue Jays, led by AA, have built up their system at a rapid rate the last few years and that's why they get talked about so much.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 05:41 PM) It also doesn't support the argument that you have to sell off every decent player that you have to get good,. I didn't say it did. That's Obama and Marty.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) You are also missing on guys like Carl Crawford, who in a true rebuild, would have been dealt. Carl Crawford was a 2nd round pick. That doesn't support your original argument that to be like Tampa you have to suck for 43737347823 years straight and accumulate top-5 picks every year.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 05:22 PM) The Tampa 10-year plan is a myth. The first six of those years were under completely different management than the current regime and they royally jacked everything up the whole time. The new FO only took 4-5 years to get where they are now, and they were in horrible shape top to bottom when they began. Thank you!
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 05:18 PM) So no players from pre-2005 contributed to that? Out of their first-round picks? None other than Upton. And he's basically their Rios (just a lot cheaper). I guess you can count Delmon Young, as he brought back Matt Garza. But they missed badly on many of their first-rounders pre-Friedman.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) Then you don't want to do a Tampa rebuild,. Or people could stop being silly and realize Tampa was a freaking expansion team run by the great Chuck Lamar. 2005 onward (the Andrew Friedman era) for Tampa is the model everybody should want to emulate.
  17. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) Coach Ditka said yesterday on the Mike & Mike show, that the 49ers remind him a lot of the 84 & 85 Bears teams.. Ditka probably also thinks that you can play 1985-style ball in 2012. I like the Niners. But they in trouble.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) See, these 2 teams are very interesting comparisons, because these 2 teams have also had 1 other benefit the Sox haven't had. They've been able to grab a key piece because they haven't really been competitive, so they could afford to give playing time to Jose Bautista and Nelson Cruz, 2 very late-bloomers, when few other teams could. The Rangers also had a big advantage in drafting and then trading away Teixeira, who was a top of the draft pick himself. Those guys (Feliz, Andrus, Harrison) have been huge for them too. Fact of the matter is this isn't the NBA where you better have a top #5 pick to land a star. The White Sox are universally recognized as having the worst collection of farm talent year-in, year-out. And it's not because they graduated a couple guys really fast or because of draft position. Yawnnnnn.
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) the rangers have been awful for years until just two years ago. their number of wins was in the 70's most years. I will give you that the phillies always seems to draft well regardless of position. It can be done, but it more rare than people think. lol. Yeah, how many current Rangers were top 10 draft picks? Hamilton and? And he came via trade. How many of their current top prospects were #10 picks? Stop trying to pigeon hole the success of other organizations to make the White Sox look less inept.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) What round rounds was Mark Buerhle drafted in? There are always individual examples. however, the organization with the best minor leagues are usually the ones which have had the higher draft picks. There are always some exceptions but not every team has the best scout or GM. Nice rebuttal.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) I think this is point most don't get. In order to really build the farm system to one of the best, you need to be bad foir a long time. You obviously can have a good one with good scouting but to be Rays good you need to be bad for a long time. Yeah, um, what rounds were Matt Moore, the consensus best pitching prospect in baseball, Jeremy Hellickson, the current AL ROY, and Desmond Jennings, a freakishly athletic OF who put up a 2.5 fWAR in about 60 games last year taken in?
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) What teams would even give up a good prospect for AJ right now? Even if you ate some of his salary. This has been broken down team-by-team, and we couldn't find a good fit anyway. Until the Angels traded for Iannetta, they were the only team that would even take a token glance at AJ. There's just no market for him at all.
  23. Oh my goodness. Obama, just stop right now. I'm going to have to call detective Stabler, Benson and the rest of the SVU in a minute.
  24. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) I hope you're not suggesting Rose didn't deserved his MVP last season. Did he deserve it? Of course. He was the best player on a team that shocked everybody and won 62 games. But the fact is he's the least efficient MVP winner since the days of the "great" Bill Russell. That will not suffice in today's NBA. When was the last time a champion's best player was a sub 45% shooter?
