  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) When healthy Tony P was a versatile pitcher and effective. But, you could see earlier this year he was hurting. I don't expect him back in 2012 either healthy or nor Dude, you're worse than '06 jphat.
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) I wish we played in the National League too. Edwin doesn't. Last time he was there his ERA was well over 5.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) Hudson has now played a season's worth of games with the Diamondbacks. Let's review how he did! 32 starts--team record 21-11 25 quality starts--yes, 25 17-7, 2.99 ERA 220 innings 192 hits 47 bb 179 K 1.086 WHIP He'll be under team control for 5 more years. Have a nice day. What are you implying?
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:27 PM) Have you bothered to check what elite setup men are making these days? Especially elite lefthanders? Potential elite CF >> setup man And this is where the system comes in. If you can't deal a guy that's going to throw at max 70 innings then you've got some big time problems. And yes, I agree with you when you say you should fully scope the market for a Matt Thornton before you make any deal.
  5. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) There is a lot of over-valuing of Rasmus happening here and a primary factor is he cost-controlled? While that is important, if you have to cite that as a primary positive you don't trade premier pitching like Thornton and the recent E-JAX for the guy. In my best Peter Griffin impersonation...What!!!? Jackson is GONE after this year. Thornton is a reliever who failed miserably as a closer and will be making almost $6 million dollars next year. For Rasmus? See ya!
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) I agree, but the Sox can help the future and help the 2011 team by acquiring Rasmus. Even if he doesn't play every day, a platoon of he and Rios is better than Rios every game. For example, I think the Sox can go 84-78 with Rasmus, but it's going to be difficult to finish with 84 wins with Rios' horses*** AB's hitting 6th and Dunn's worthless a** hitting 4th. Well, say we trade Jackson and Peavy gets hurt or Humber remembers he's Humber, we could be in deep s*** for this year. But I don't even care. As pessimistic as I can be, I really deep down inside thought we could win this division with relative ease. Two games under .500 after 100 games pretty much tells you what kinda team you have. We're not even as good as the '08 team. And they won only 89 games.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:53 PM) Hey, honestly, I'd have a pretty positive outlook on our future with both Rasmus and Beckham in the fold. That's two guys who are going to figure it out and be a part of really good future White Sox teams. This is what drives me nuts. Everyone heard "all-in" so they think the future means dick. The White Sox supposedly can land Colby Rasmus. My God, this is a kid who projects to hit .280 with 30 bombs and 30 steals yearly... he's had a 133 OPS+ season and is still just 24. The room to grow is apparent, and a change of scenery would do wonders for him. Ugh, if the Sox pass on the chance to get him, I'll be very upset. However, I feel this "rumor" is just that, because if this offer is on the table and Kenny passes? Pish, bye bye baseball for me. I just don't think this rumor has any truth to it. Kenny Williams deals either happen or they don't. You NEVER hear a peep about them prior to the trigger being pulled. That alone makes me think this ain't goin' down. I don't believe it does, either. But on the small chance it does, KW would be foolish not to pounce. I'm sorry. This is not a World Series caliber team. I don't give two s***s if they go 84-78 and win this division. Something that's very unlikely anyway.
  8. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) Yes, nice guy. He also has a reputation for not being a hard worker. Maybe, when you are in your 30's now that starts to take its toll. And, if you've seen him play you have to wonder what aspects of baseball has he been working on all these years? It looks like about all he's been working on is havin a few beers and going out there and swinging hard. I disagree with this entire post. But I don't feel I can offer a rebuttal because Randy still owns all of Soxtalk.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) Beckham hasn't been very good this year and is also a 2B. CF and 2B aren't considered 'offensive' positions. So I don't know where you're going there. I still think there's hope for Gordon. I never said he should be exiled or some s***. I've been very disappointed in his play for the last year in a half. I, like the entire fanbase, thought we had a star on our hands. The surest bet since Frank Thomas. So far, we've all looked foolish. But he's still young enough that you can still hold on to hope. Would I trade Gordon for the right package? Sure. Would I trade Gordon for Carlos Beltran? f*** no.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) You wanted to get rid of Beckham a month or two ago. You wanted to give up on a cost controlled young talent. Now a guy with the same sort of performance issues is available and he's the greatest thing since tall boys. As I said, I would probably make the deal if it were true if I had reasonable assurances Rasmus can get along with Ozzie, his head is in the right place and his father isn't going to interfere. Beckham doesn't have those issues. He's a classy guy. Chances are eventually Rasmus is going to be a problem. I could live with it if it were down the road and he produced. I said that Gordon might not be the player we or the franchise thought he was. I never said just get rid of him. And if you do it better be for somebody of a similar ilk. No more old, past their prime vets.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) He's better than that and you know it. Has anything Rasmus accomplished been negated by his performance since May 1? I already said Rasmus has had a down year. Especially considering how well he performed last year. I'd still take him over Edwin and Thornton.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) He's better than that and you know it. Now I can turn this back on you. You're so skeptical of Rasmus, yet you have this unequivocal faith in GB. I want them both. If you ask me who I think is a better, more skilled player, I'd say Rasmus without hesitation. But I want all the cost-controlled talent we can corral.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:22 PM) Offensively, he had a great second half last year. Which is totally negated by his replacement level performance this year. And that's despite a recent hot streak. I was one that was encouraged by Gordon's second half last year. I didn't expect Cano or Pedroia. But he's right on par with guys like Maicer Izturis and Chris Getz.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) So is Gordon Beckham and you never have kind things to say about him. I doubt 3 years from now Rasmus is a CF, and do you really thing Ozzie is going to bench Rios to play Rasmus? I could only assume that if such a move were to take place that CQ would be traded. I'm not sure. Like you said, this is probably all bulls***. I'm just saying that I'm looking at the long-term ramifications. "All-In" has been bulls*** and I'm f***ing sick of that phrase. We've been All-in every year since '05 and have one division title to show for it. Time to change the philosophy.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) So is Gordon Beckham and you never have kind things to say about him. And other than his defense this year, which has been really good, what can one say positively about him since '09?
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:10 PM) Rasmus put up huge numbers in April. Since then he's been total garbage and he can "play" CF. Carl Everett could "play" CF in 2003 and Rob Macowiak could "play" CF in 2006-7 and Ken Griffey Jr. could "play" CF in 2008. There is a difference in playing CF and actually being good at it. You're all gung ho now, if this trade happened, and it appears the rumors aren't true, I think you will be dissappointed. I think a lot of people would. I think if it were presented KW would have to do it as long as he felt Rasmus and his baggage wouldn't be a problem. Maybe they could keep it from being a problem for a while, but eventually......................... Rasmus is a gifted athlete that fits the profile of a potential elite CF. He was the #3 prospect in baseball two and a half years ago. If he did disappoint, so what? He's cheaper than a blackjacks stripper. Jackson is gone after this year and I don't think the franchise falls apart without Thornton.
  17. QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) How can you call Jackson a mistake? In 29 games (just shy of a full season), he's pitched 190 innings with 78 earned runs (~3.7 ERA). Maybe the means of his acquisition were a mistake, but he's definitely been effective. And if we had him for another three years with cost-efficiency he'd be fine. Unfortunately, all we're going to get is B draft pick compensation.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) I hate this term "all in". It just gives people an excuse to want to morgage our future just for 1 singular year. It's soooo f***ing dumb. Getting Rasmus doesn't just effect our 2011 team, but it gives us a solid young player for 3 more years to come. People need to stop being so short-sighted. I think (and let me emphasize think) KW is starting to get this. That's assuming that any of these rumors have any legs.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) I also don't think some realize how bad Rasmus has been the last couple of months. People want to send Beckham down to AAA, they'd be saying the same thing about Rasmus. Also, I don't know where people get Rasmus is a good defensive CF. He is not. Potentially he's a great player, but a lot of things have to play out correctly for that to happen. He's supposed to have a meddeling father who works with his hitting on the field and I guess causes trouble on Cardinals' message boards. If the trade happened, Soxtalk probably would gain a new member. Kalapse did something on Rasmus a fw weeks ago. Even in a down year, he's still grossly outperforming Beckham. And the fact that he plays CF cannot be underestimated.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) I imagine All-In doesn't mean f***ing retarded. Dreaded 'R' word.
  21. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) that's my point, if quentin is traded, this move is epic fail rasmus IS NOT BETTER THAN CARLOS QUENTIN, RIGHT NOW. All IN implies THIS YEAR. In my mind, to hell with that. We're 100 games in and we're below .500. Yeah, anything can happen in the playoffs. I get that. But if we somehow do get there, the chances of us getting to the World Series are extremely remote. At some point this franchise has to legitimately look at long-term success. Not selling out every year in a futile attempt to win this crappy division. Because obviously it hasn't worked. I'm in favor of long-term success over an at best 50% chance of winning a s***ty division.
  22. Reed might be only a relief prospect. But he's still extremely valuable because if he pans out you don't have to overpay in years and money for 'pen help in FA. Jesse Crain has been great. But the chances of him being good all three years are slim. And the goal is (at least I hope) for Sale to start. So that's two potential holes in the bullpen next year, assuming Thornton goes. It'd be foolish to trade Reed at this point.
  23. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) The prospect Cardinals are after is Addison Reed. Check it out on their message boards. Jackson, Thorton, and Reed for Rasmus. I'd try not to give up Reed because I think he will be Thorton's replacement if a trade is done. Reed is too valuable. That's excessive. This franchise is in no position to deal future cost-controlled talent. Reed has been disgusting this year.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) I strongly disagree. Rasmus is more valuable, easily, and it gives KW the opportunity to justify keeping CQ, which is really nice considering we need to move him NOW if we don't want to pay him through arbitration. Moving Jackson+Viciedo for Rasmus allows us to still compete this year and set ourselves up well for next year (Rasmus/Rios/Quentin) I do agree that throwing Thornton in is too much. Huh? That would be terrible and the final nail in Kenny's coffin.
  25. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) Could the Cards be sold on adding Teahen to the deal? He might thrive under La Russa and in that offense. They really don't have an everyday third basemen. I'd shave my legs and buy a Gordon Gartrel if we could sell them on that.
