  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:15 PM) It officially died long, long before that though. Well it died to me after that.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:29 PM) We got to 1st place with Peavy 7-6 and a 4.6 ERA. Sure, he could pitch above that level...but that's all he'd done on the season by the time we were in first place. Wrong. We got to 1st place because of a ridiculous 26-5 stretch in which the SP was 2005 like. Jake Peavy in June: 3-2, 1.75 ERA, .194 BAA, 29/8 SO/BB ratio.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) At least for now...if Hudson can be the guy to take the mound every 5th day...all he has to do for me is do what Peavy has done so far thsi year. Near .500 record, ERA just below 5, gives you a chance to win some of the games he's in. If you trade him though...then that's a big ass domino effect. Of course, one of those dominoes is also not filling the DH role to start the year. Thing is Peavy was just starting to hit his stride. I don't think it's as simple as Hudson keeping his era below 5.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) I couldn't agree more. Easily one of the most crippling injuries I can remember the Sox having. Look at the team now, and there's some huge concerns with #4/5, some bullpen issues, and the usual RF/DH issues. Hudson's now no longer a viable trade chip. There's just no way KW is going to be able to legitimately upgrade the offense and rotation.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) He knows more scouts than I do. Well yeah. But he's like your messiah all of a sudden.
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) They need a bat. They can't ride this pitching wave forever and the minute it falters something needs to be there to take its place. These things tend to balance themselves out. I don't think many folks truly realize the impact of what losing Peavy for the year has created. It's about way more than him not being able to take the mound every 5th day. Big ass domino effect. I don't think we're going to be able to recover.
  7. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) if hudson goes in a deal to get prince, could chris sale be a candidate for the 5th starter spot. i know hes been in the bullpen in the minors but hes always been a starter and hes supposed to be a starter in the future That would be so irresponsible on so many levels.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) One of Stark's scouts What is it with you and Stark? lol. All I was saying that after a slow start (April/May), that he's been on a power tear since June 1st.
  9. The GG officially died when Franklin Gutierrez, who had one of the most spectacular defensive seasons EVER, didn't get it last year.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) Especially one that a lot of people seem to think isn't at the same level he was a couple years ago. He's popped 17 HRs and is sporting a 1.006 OPS since June 1.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) I genuinely am feeling like this deal makes us worse this season. Fielder has been worth 3 wins above replacement this season (and has been only slightly below average in the field). Stuck at DH, he's probably worth another 2-3 wins above Kotsay. OTOH, if the 5th starter spot has 10 slots left, if all Hudson does is go .500, compared to Torres or Pena, that's gotta cost us 2-3 wins if we have to give him up. Oh snaps. Balta has hopped on the sabermetric train.
  12. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) We were due for a real stinker. Oakland is a decent ballclub. Not great, but decent. I love the potential of their starting rotation. But they seriously need some bats.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) If it's Fielder, that's one thing. If he gives up Hudson or Beckham for Dunn, it will make me hate the front office's decision to not bring back Thome even more. I said the other day that playing in what's typically been a weak division has killed our farm during the KW era. It'd be nice to go into a season without glaring holes in which we have to overpay to shore them up.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) That Castro guy is going to be pretty damn good as well. Not to mention Cashner. His stuff is electric.
  15. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) So far we're 4-4 on this road trip. I know witht he way we were playing going into the All-Star break, it would've been nice to win more games. But I'll still take a 5-5 trip on the road. So if we can't come back today hopefully we can get a win tomorrow. We would've won more games if not for Jenks taking a big fat dump twice.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) I know a lot of people dislike him, but Ozzie is awesome on interviews. Even he makes fun of the first two innings. He is a great man. We dislike his managing at times. I don't think anybody would deny that Ozzie is one of the top 5 interviews in sports.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) We're lucky A's didn't score 10 runs while he was in there. Pierre made a great play to save him 3 runs. The zone was very small, but he had absolutely nothing. And people want to trade Hudson? lol.
  18. Just tuning in on Gameday. I take it Freddy had absolutely nothing today, right?
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) It's really an embarrassment to see how big of a zone he gets. Glavine/Maddux in their primes didn't get a bigger zone. If Cardinals don't win tomorrow, I'm not so sure Cubs go into sell mode. It's really amazing how lucky they're going to get in the first month or so after the ASB with regards to pitching match-ups, as they miss Oswalt again next week and then no Jimenez in Colorado. Did 2003 do permanent damage to you regarding the Cubs? lol. They could be 20 games out with 22 to play and you'd be scared that they'd go on a 22-0 run while the first place team went 0-22. I don't care if they win tomorrow. They're are not a threat to the Cardinals.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) I was thinking that the best team in baseball on a given day are the Rangers with Cliff Lee on the mound. That lineup is ridiculous (besides Chris Davis), and the Rangers bullpen is extremely underrated. Any given day? You could make the argument that they're the best team period. That front office has done one heck of a job resurrecting what was once a doormat franchise.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) Joba would be intriguing for the D-Backs. I've never heard of the other two guys. But unless they plan on making Joba a starter, that seems like a terrible deal for Arizona.
  22. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) Well. I didn't think the O's would take any from Minny. That's a nice bonus. They just recently swept Texas in 4 games. Not that surprising.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 23, 2010 -> 07:18 PM) Amazing what playing in a mediocre division and getting great pitching will do. That doesn't excuse making stupid lineup decisions. Ozzie would get so exposed in the AL east.
