  1. Oh jesus christ. This sets up Bobby for the 9th.
  2. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) Easy to laugh. Or you could say maybe it'd be nice to go INTO a season in which you didn't have to call for upgrades at the deadline. Again, this gets back to my point that Ozzie and KW are overrated because we've been able to somewhat thrive in what's been a mediocre division for the last decade. Try to pull this Mark Kotsay crap in the AL east. You'll be done by all-star break.
  3. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) 63 games to go, wild card unlikely what's gonna happen? Looks like we need to win our division to make the playoffs. The east has teams with more wins than our division and will probably have the wild card. Wonder how many games it will take to win our division? We'd only have to go 35-28 to get 90 wins. Is that enough? The WC went out the window back in April. The 4 best teams in baseball are the Yankees, Rangers, Rays and Red Sox (not necessarily in that order). It's been win the division or else.
  4. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) You honestly thought he was going to put up a .900+ OPS this season? I personally saw a 39 year old slugger on his last legs last year. He hadn't had a .900 or higher OPS since 2006 and seemed to be regressing and starting to break down. I had no problem letting him go and am not going to say it was a mistake like I knew he would be hitting this well. Who's to say he would have put up those numbers here playing every day? For all we know, he would've hurt his back playing every day. What was realistic to you? Let's say an .850 OPS (more than feasible considering he put up an .864 OPS just last year with us). That's still worlds better than the crap that's been Mark Kotsay and the puke that's been Andruw Jones (at least since his hot April). Ozzie couldn't find at bats for Thome but he could find 250 PAs before August for a guy that was about to be designated for assignment before we scooped him up for superstar Brian Anderson? I'm sorry. Ozzie, at least in this case, is a f***ing tard. I don't care about 2005. That was your ultimate fluke. You will not win with a manager with this line of thinking consistently. Ship his ass out.
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) Does anyone else see Angels going after Dunn since D Lee rejected the trade? Sure. Nobody saw them getting Haren.
  6. This actually scares me in the sense that if this is the best the Tigers can do considering all the injuries they've had, it makes you wonder what we can legitimately do?
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) Pretty sure this makes Jayson Nix a full-time starter for them. So... that's kind of cool. You remind me of Glenn Close.
  8. Nothing says upgrading your team like trading a guy (David Ortiz) that's put up a slash line of .282/20/60/.398/.592/.990 since May 1st.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) Last time I checked, we were on a 31-11 run with that "unsuitable" replacement. Do the Red Sox have suitable injury replacements across the board? Check on their roster from the last month... Yes, I get the point you're trying to make, but if we're going to compare our situation with the Phillies (brand new ballpark, 10-15 years of being horrible which finally led to better drafting and results, huge payroll, etc.), I give up. The fact of the matter is we've been fighting that label of the worst of the new ballparks for 20 years now. And attendance in Camden Yards, Rogers Centre, Jacobs Field...have you looked at attendance numbers recently? In the 70's and most of the 80's, we were one of the worst franchises in baseball, despite all the colorful characters, uniforms and Bill Veeck. For the last 20 years, clearly we've been one of the 5-10 most successful. That's a huge improvement. I won't get into this whole post. Couple things: Mark Teahen, well, sucks. He's not a guy I would use as an example of a franchise being able to legitimately replace and not miss a beat. Second, I get so sick and tired of all the "Well, that team had been bad for so long. That's why they have good prospects" bulls***. Domonic Brown was a 20TH ROUND PICK. I repeat, 20TH ROUND PICK!!! This isn't the NBA where the draft is only two rounds. There's talent up and down every draft. You just have to be able to identify it. And we've failed miserably at that.
  10. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Is that potential career ending? That is his second one. He was some kinda pitcher in his peak Brewer days. Sad.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) I don't believe Robin Ventura was playing for the Sox this year. Although that injury he sustained in spring training the one year was horrific. I'm just pointing out that players can be replaced with veterans not highly-touted unproven prospects. Your organization should be up for contraction if you can't find a suitable replacement for Mark Teahen.
  12. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) 150 games would be fine but in that case Id expand the first round to a 7 game series as well. I could live with that.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) Or how the Whits Sox team performance dropped when they lost their starting 3B.........oh wait a veteran stepped in and performed well right away. Prospects are suspects until they've proven they can play at the MLB level. Now I have been drinking. It's 2010, correct? It's not 1994 and we have Robin Ventura, right? You can't be serious.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) We were saying the same thing back in April and May. Every team goes through the motions. There were times where the Twins offense looked like ours. Yeah, but Mauer has underachieved (by his standards) most of the year. He's really heating up of late. If he goes 2009 the rest of the way it could be curtains.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) I still prefer a 150 game season with more teams in the post season. More teams? No way. Baseball is the one sport where making the playoffs is an actual accomplishment. I'm just fine with 4 teams from each league qualifying. I'm down with the 150 game regular season. I actually liked the 144 games that was played in '95.
  16. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) I hate the Thome talk. If anything we've talked too much about it. I'm still glad we didn't re-sign him. I was sick of Paulie, Jermaine, and Thome in the middle of the lineup. Obviously I'd like someone other than Kotsay, but it really was time for Thome to go. On what planet is one sick of a .900+ OPS? I don't care if my DH doesn't have Carl Crawford's speed. I don't think the Red Sox and Rangers are too concerned about Ortiz's and Vlad's legs. I want my DH to mash.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) How well would the Phils have survived their #1 starter going down? C'mon, Balta. No team would be able to cover everybody. But think about it. If any of our top guys went down, whether it be Rios, PK, Ramirez, s***, even Juan f***ing Pierre, what would the alternatives be? It'd be 2007 all over again.
  18. The Twins lineup really, really scares me.
  19. Astros whip up on the Cubs again. Fathom, will you finally concede the Cubs aren't sniffing October?
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) It was about time. I really love that site. They cover every team and just about every player. When I first discovered them I just automatically assumed it would be 85% Yankees/Red Sox.
  21. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) Which proves my point in how much a good f***ing farm system can do for you. You can use it to grow star players, or trade for some stud MLB players. Or to alleviate injuries throughout the year. Shane Victorino, an all-star last year, goes on the DL. What do the Phillies do? Call up a consensus top 10 prospect, 5 tool talent in Dominic Brown to step in. I'd hate to see what our alternative would be say Rios were to go down. That's a terrifying thought.
  22. Fangraphs showing Alexei some love: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/t...her-ss-ramirez/
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) I really wonder if Ozzie could talk him into coming here? How would PK feel about becoming the everyday DH? There's no way you'd waste Lee's glove at DH.
  24. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) Man, Carlos Lee really kills the Cubs. They're about the only thing he's killed this year. He's been one of the worst everyday players in baseball.
