White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) Here's some combo's that might be in play... Grienke/Guillen Markakis/Millwood or Guthrie Berkman/Myers Jackson/Upton (I freaking wish) Lind/Marcum Trying to think of some other surprise moves. I'd faint if we somehow acquired Markakis. He's a lot like Rios. Unbelievable skill/talent that has underachieved the last couple years. He was one of the best players in baseball in 2008. He's only 26 and signed through 2014.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) it would tell me the White Sox didn't have Hudson rated extremely high on internal scouting Or that KW trades prospects like they have expiration dates?

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:58 AM) Ick. Hate giving away games like that. Especially when you consider a play-in game was required to decide each of the last two division winners.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:05 AM) Its unfair to really compare anyone with Magic. Dude was friggin 6'9 for god sakes. Plus, he was a Guard-Forward. Now Jason Kidd on the other hand is a different story, who Derrick was often compared to comming out. (also D-Wade) Didn't even mention the Heat. I actually agree with you. Still think the Lakers can beat them though... at least this year. You're the one that said "numbers that no PG has ever seen." lol. And Magic's primary position was PG. And I know you didn't mention the Heat. Check the edit in my last post.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:50 AM) If Derrick Rose ever maxed out, he would be putting up numbers no PG has ever seen. Unfortunately, he will never fully max out because IMO, his overall development the past couple of years was limited by VDN and didn't have that much good talent or fits surrounding him. (got by more on talent, not overall efficiency and this is me talking as far as how much upside I believe this kid truly has) Having said this, he is still young enough to be an incredible player. Better than pre injury Chris Paul? I don't see it either, but I think he can be better than Deron Williams for sure. Whoa, I can't agree with you there. I don't think he's Magic good regardless. But definitely top 10, maybe top 5, caliber if he does max out. But I'm sorry. And I'm getting a lot of crap from Bulls fans at work and on realgm. But I'm not going to pretend we can run with the Heat. Not in 2011, 2012, 2013 or any other year in the not so distant future. Unless something unexpected (a major injury) occurs, the Heat have the east on lockdown for a while. Edit: And I just realized I morphed into something that had nothing to do with what you posted. Oh well. That's what brandy does to the brain. Makes you kinda weird.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:53 AM) Didn't Gordon get called up when DeJesus went on DL ? Yes, and he's now their full-time LF with the Podsednik trade (thus the reason I removed my sig).

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:01 AM) Right, why even watch the NBA again, right? Lebron is the greatest of all time and the Heat will go undefeated and win 6 straight titles. f*** Lebron James. One day I'm going to put together an hour long video explaining why Lebron is the most overrated defensive player in NBA history. I despise LeCoattail (and this was before the "Decision"). But from a statistical/all-around standpoint, there's nobody close. And I'd pay to see this video. LeBron's defense was pretty mediocre pre-2009. Certainly not the case now. I see LePiggayback averaging something like 26-8-9 on ridiculous efficiency next year. Rose very well could be and should be one of the top players in the game soon. But even if he maxes out, he still probably won't be better than Chris Paul, let alone LeSidekick.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:44 AM) Rose is one of those rare guys who could potentially be the best all around player in the NBA. He's got insane strength for a PG. He's one of the fastest players in the league. He's got a huge wingspan. He's so ridiculously athletic. And he has an incredible work ethic. Improving his defense is a lot more about effort than it is technique. And in a Thidodeau system, there is no reason for him to not be an elite defender with his length, strength, and quickness. He's improved his mid range jumper leaps and bounds and is now working on a 3 pt shot. We know he can distribute the ball, and now he's got more toys to play with. It's scary how good he could be. Stop. LeBron has the title until he's 32 or 33.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:43 AM) Another aspect of acquring Jackson, he knows the AL Central well and has faced the AL East plenty. I'd be interested in seeing his era against MIN,DET,NYY,and BOS is since we play all of them a lot the next few months. Like Kalapse said, Baseballreference is your beyond a shadow of a doubt best baseball friend. Just go there. Whatever you want to know you can find it there.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:29 AM) Jackson is one of the biggest hyped prospects of this decade. Jackson is a serviceable starter in the majors leagues. That's it. Sure, he had a damn fine season last year, he also just so happened to throw a no-hitter this season. Worse pitchers have done both, thrown better seasons, and thrown no-hitters. I see no reason to get enamored over a big name player. Edwin jackson... big name player you say? Well, Edwin jackson may very be the biggest name (hyped and lashed out at) out there in the game who has done the least. Since the average sox fan hates javier vazquez, a damn fine pitcher, (so he got paid, thank his agent, don't blame him) i would hope that same rage is also sent jackson's way. Jackson is no where near the caliber of pitcher vazquez. The reason i compare the them both is they are two of the biggest underachievers in the game. I can't even offer a rebuttal to this. Let me ask you this: Because of the huge hole created by Peavy's injury, for THIS season only, would you be content with Jackson? Because that's really my lone reasoning. The prospects of Garcia (big difference with him being your number 4 instead of your number 5) and Hudson scares the s*** outta me. Because even with an extra bat, It's doubtful we can top the Twins (not to mention the fact Mark Buehrle is more of a #4 starter himself).

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
Now that I've thought about it some, I don't know what to think. I think there's pros and cons. But I know for certain that if it's Jackson for Hudson+ then Kenny has really lost his mind.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:04 AM) Except you have to pay Jackson 8.35 million. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:04 AM) That's a $54M+ rotation. Expensive indeed. But if there's no offensive upgrades to be made, I don't mind a pitching upgrade. Especially with Freddy probably all but gone after this year and Buehrle off the books after next year.

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:59 AM) Jackson-for-Hudson seems like a lateral move to me. I don't see the point, especially with Hudson being a lot cheaper for the next few years. Exactly. But looking ahead to 2011, wow. Peavy (hopefully healthy), Danks, Floyd, Jackson, Buehrle with Hudson/Sale waiting in the wings. Me likes.

I'm cool with this as long as Hudson is not involved.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:13 AM) I don't think so. It seems pretty clear that he isn't very high on the Sox priority list. That wasn't the point. He'd definitely be here if that package was all it took to get him. And now that I think about it, who is Griffith?

White Sox Acquire Edwin Jackson
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:11 AM) Uhmm.....no thanks. Then I take it you're fine with Garcia/Hudson rounding out the rotation? And I don't want to trade Hudson. But if we could get Jackson without giving up Hudson I'd be pretty pleased. Jackson has been pretty hit or miss this year. But he consistently hits 95 MPH with his FB and his slider is + when it's on. He's actually been pretty good in his last 15 starts: 4.24 ERA, .247 BAA, 7.67 K/9. The walks are obviously what's hindered him.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 11:44 PM) I think berkman would be a good addition. He would rake at the Cell although the Juice bOX is similar to us cellular. I also was watching MLB trade deadline special and Dave Justice (Astros beat writer) said Berkman was "upset" the astros accommendated Oswalt and didn't look to be moving him [berkman] (as of 2pm). He also said the Astros were looking for 4 prospects (not all MLB or triple A ready). He may relish playing for a contender and be just as good as Dunn. Anybody know how he performed in the 05' playoffs/world series? It would be interesting to see what kind of playoff player he was/is. I think the stros have only made it that once with him. He has a .992 OPS in 129 PAs in the playoffs.

Lance Berkman traded to Yankees
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) MLB Trade Of course, it's also possible that the trade deadline passes without any movement from the Sox. While this does not seem very Kenny Williams-like, the asking price on many of the available players has simply been astronomical this year. It's a combination of that and the fact the system is thinner than this:

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) LeBron might actually have a triple-double season. Incredible to think about. Pat Riley is my GM of the century. They went from 1st round fodder to a team that can legitimately rival, or maybe even exceed, what the Bulls did in the 90's.

Prince Fielder Speculation
QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) Fielder and Hart are officially off the market it looks like, Brewers plan on trying to compete still in the weak NL Central. Can't say I blame them. With their offensive talent, they're really only a starter and some bullpen help away from competing in that division. Although I have no idea where they're going to find that starter.

Sox scouted Jays and Orioles last night
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) This seems like an entirely different situation. Thome was let go because Ozzie is a f***ing idiot clogging the bases the times he didn't strike out or homer. I think the poster is simply stating that Luke Scott mashing Twins' pitching can only be seen as a positive. In no way can it be a bad thing. Nobody advocates signing Scott purely based on this either. Fixed.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) David Price is no FIP master either. The Rays have to have one of the most overachieving rotations this year. Wow, I didn't realize Price's FIP/xFIP had shot up to 3.71 and 4.16.

Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) Wow, when did Niemann's FIP climb two runs? Other than Price, the Rays rotation has come back to earth after their ridiculous run through May. They're still pretty damn good, though.
