  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) If it wasn't for a dumb error by the 3rd base coach we'd see men on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Not a good choice to keep Thornton in the pen for that at bat. Thornton is not going to make 130 appearances this year. Other guys, mainly Bobby's chunky butt, need to get the job done.
  2. I remember when Bobby was an elite closer. He got bailed out by stupidity today.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:07 PM) Fixed for accuracy Kalapse posted something a while back breaking down Pod's ineptitude on the bases. I couldn't believe it. It's unbelievable to think that a major league baseball player can be so bad at something as fundamental as baserunning.
  4. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) Exactly. Doesn't matter what we like or not, Pods is better. He has a better looking wife. But he's not better. They're both below average. And Pierre's "skills" trump that of Pods. This has been proven many times.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) Man, Pierre really is playing like a scrub. 2003 was a long time ago.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) I don't care about Sabermetrics, sorry. My own eyes tell me I like Pods more than I do Pierre. I watched Pods again today smash a base hit that nearly tore the pitcher's head off to start the game and he stole second for his third SB of the year. I know I know. Pods sucks. You can like him better all you want.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) And maybe they win a game or two, put the fear of God into the Cavs like the Bulls did to the 'Stons a few years ago, and look like an even better FA destination. The fear of god? We were down 3-0, the Pistons got bored, lost a couple games, and waxed us at home in game 6. And we didn't make the playoffs the next year.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) Every single game you can expose the young core to the feeling of playoff basketball, the better. I would rather see Rose learning how to win against guys like LeBron and company than staying at home and hoping the Bulls sign a free agent. Even four games is something. We heard the exact same thing with the BG/Hinrich/Deng/Chandler teams. How simply making the playoffs would be beneficial in the long run. We saw how that worked out. And no FA is going to be duped into signing here if we're able to steal a game or two (seriously doubtful) against the Cavs.
  9. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Why? The Bucks can swap picks with the Bulls anyways so why not win as much as possible and maybe hope for a win or 2 in the playoffs. And what does a win or two actually accomplish in the long run? Absolutely nothing. I won't go as far as to say I want them to lose. But either way, this season has no relevance.
  10. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) big game today ! Oh, yes! The privilege to get swept by the Cavs is on the line! They're few things more meaningless in sports than making the playoffs as a 7th/8th seed in the NBA. And the local stations and papers out here actually have the audacity to be hyping this game up. This isn't exactly game 6 of the 1998 NBA finals.
  11. Don't believe in must-win games less than a week into the season. But we really need this one today.
  12. Both Strasburg and Chapman to make their pro debuts today.
  13. "Death to all things flying" strikes again. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb Too bad he's no Torii Hunter.
  14. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 11:56 PM) I'd say this is probably the best chance we will have in a while to win another title, just based on the amazing starting pitching we have. Pitching this solid doesn't come around often, so I'm still for the trading of a bat like Gonzalez. His bat could open up a lot of stuff for this offense. And on a semi-related note, why is Beckham batting second? I don't get it. I mean, I understand you want a contact guy in the 2 hole so he can move the leadoff hitter over and what not, but I think it's a waste of a really, really good (potentially) bat. Beckham seems like a good 5 hitter to me. He would provide protection for Konerko (think 100% opposite of Kotsay), and wouldn't have to worry about moving guys over (or bunting) if he was there. Seems like a good fit to me. You typed all this without a hint of who you believe would be able to hold down the 2-hole.
  15. I might have to pull a qwerty and take a break from this board for a while (or at least PHT).
  16. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 11:21 PM) dude .300 is .300 there is nothing useless about it and especially how we have been hittin so far ide kill to see a useless .300.. and furthermore he CAN run when he gets on so that if is scratched off.. and I don't care what you say or what stats you try to throw out about this, but Pierre hitting an infield single and then stealing second is as good as a double to me.. his job is to get on base, and get into scoring position not be the run producer and I think eventually here when things pick up he will be doing just that.. theres no reason to assume Pierre wont get going, the dude has a .276 avg and 30 SB as his worst marks in his entire career and having 500+ ABs that steal number is no less than 45.. I agree with the bold. That's the only asset he brings to any team. Not a punchless .300 average. His speed needs to be fully utilized. Don't waste Beckham's bat trying to get him into scoring position, as Ozzie chose to do the other night.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) So which guy would you rather not have, Peavy or Rios? Do you really have to ask that?
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) Anymore? He could never hit. Vizquel should be nothing more for this team then a mentor for Beckham, Alexei and Nix and an occasional defensive replacement for the late innings. There's no reason he should have started yesterday. Totally false. But, yeah, he sucks now.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) If you can hit .300, you belong in the bigs. The thing is, he'd be much better as a #9 hitter than a #1 hitter. It's a useless .300 if he can't run, as he has zero extra base power and doesn't draw walks. But I guess the 9-hole would suit him. But we know that's not happening.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) Excited? No. Could he be an adequate cog in an average offense? Sure. Would I rather have Podsednik getting thrown out every time he gets to 1b? No. One thing that really bothers me about Pierre so far is his running. Specifically, the lack of it. If he's not able to run, then he doesn't belong leading off. If he's not able to run he doesn't belong in the major leagues.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) My final post of the thread: Not bringing Pods into the equation. You guys aren't really excited about Pierre being our new leadoff guy are you? Not really. But he's not as bad as he's shown thus far. And he's clearly better than Podsednik.
