  1. Dominant pitching+all-around offensive attack=what we saw tonight. It's a beautiful thing.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) wow, I have no idea what I meant there. Weird. Don't back-track now.
  3. I'd take him over any pitcher in the game who's last name is not Santana (Ervin doesn't count). He's become an absolute joy to watch on the mound. The only thing I wonder about is why he doesn't strikeout 9-11 batters a game more often. His stuff is certainly filthy enough.
  4. In order: Contreras, Buehrle, Vazquez ---- Garcia ---- Garland
  5. I absolutely hate playing in Texas. I have no faith in our pitching staff to hold these guys down in this ballpark. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.

  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 12:30 AM) I want some reporter to ask the question where has Freddys velocity gone. Its amazing that he just decides to reinvent himself and everyone just smiles and says, look its Freddy the control pitcher. Like that is normal. Well, assuming the ESPN radar gun is accurate, many of his fastballs hit 92-94.
  8. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:53 PM) Shaq and Wade were on hot streaks during the playoffs, offensively and defensively, and the Heat play on a completely different level at home, so this series isn't quite over yet. Guys like Posey, Williams, and Antoine Walker have all caught fire at different times in the playoffs, and have been pathetic so far. On a sidenote, PLEASE stop playing Gary Payton, it's sad how much he has declined over the past few years. He's more like "The Thimble" now. They have to win all 3 in Miami to even have a remote chance. The Mavs are just a horrible match-up for such an old, unathletic team like the Heat.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 12:10 AM) He's still getting on base at the same rate as he did last year, has stolen quite a few bases, and the offense as a whole is a lot better. He's actually drawing more walks this year, but he needs to get that average back up to 2005 level, or at least to his career average. Exactly. The only thing really down right now is his average.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) Don't feel bad if any of you guys left the game early tonight. In 2003, I was at the Bears/Browns game. Mike Brown game #2. My sister and mom were b****ing about being cold and we were down by 14 with under 2:00 to go. A catch was under review with I think it was 1:28 left. My dad gave in and we walked outside Soldier Field to wait in line for a bus back to the Grant Street garage. To top it off, our seats were in the 2nd row in the exact corner of the endzone where the hail mary happened and where Mike Brown ran straight into the locker room after the game. All I could do was hear the fans go wild I was soooo pissed at my sister and mom. That was 2001.
  11. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Is this still a Brian Anderson thread? If so... ...to you, BA. That blast in the 9th started the rally and got the tribe thinking. A good game at the plate. I hope it's the start of something special. He seems to like hitting against the Indians on Sunday night with ESPN broadcasting the game.
  12. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:43 PM) I was at the Big Frank walk off hr against the twins in 03. When Konerko came up in the bottom of the 9th while we were losing people were walking towards the stands, then they came back when he hit the tying HR. This is the first time in my life time leaving early btw, I remember that game. Classic.
  13. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) I'd deem it similiar to saying the Big Ten had a bad basketball year, since they didn't peform well in March. I've just never been really impressed with them. Half the roster is made up of former stars well past their primes. They're not a very athletic team outside of Wade. They don't have any real shooters aside from Posey. They're erratic defensively. Just makes you wonder about the state of the Eastern conference.
  14. The food keeps me from leave early. No matter the score.
  15. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) And what makes you so sure that we won't win 90 games or get to the playoffs? Let me help you: IF THE SEASON ENDED TODAY, WE'D BE IN THE PLAYOFFS. WE'RE ALSO ON PACE TO WIN 99 GAMES RIGHT NOW, DESPITE BAD PITCHING AT THE BACK OF OUR ROTATION. Get it now? Try doing your homework next time. Who gives a s*** what would happen if the season ended today. If the season ended today, the Tigers, you know, the team that you say sucks, would be division champs. What is your point? We're on pace to win 99 games? lol. Oh, yeah, that makes me feel so much better. I'll just sit back and relax because we're on a 99 win pace. Thanks.
  16. I still don't know how the Heat got to the Finals. Is the East that pathetic? Probably.
  17. I can think of maybe one or two games in which it looked like the team had no life. That's about it. They've had the never quit thing goin' all year.
  18. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) The Astros also won the NL last year... with not even half of the offensive talent that we have. Oh, and the Sox also have the second-best record in the league right now, which means that they would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. Nice analysis there, Sherlock. LOL. You obviously didn't get the point. Let me help you. WE WILL NOT GET TO THE PLAYOFFS WITH LESS THAN 90 WINS. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE ASTROS DID IN A CRAPPY NATIONAL LEAGUE. Get it now?
  19. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) 54.1 IP, 49 H, 10 BB, 31 K's, 2.98 ERA, 1.09 WHIP Is it too late to get him out from under the bus? Alright. I'll admit, I didn't realize it was only Cleveland and Toronto that he's really struggled with. So what's the conclusion then? That he can dominate weak hitting teams like the Cubs and Angels? While getting lit up by the good hitting teams? I mean, he's probably gonna face the Indians 2-3 more times this year. Is it gonna be ok if he continues to get killed as long as he does the job against the crap teams?
  20. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) And that's why your post is so ridiculous. That's hilarious coming from you. As am I. You're not special. The model franchise they should follow? What the f*** are you talking about? Which I consider the most important thing? All I said was that he has to start pitching better. What the hell is wrong with you? lol. And how many games did the Astros win last year? I believe it was 89. You're smokin' that really good s*** if you think we're getting to the playoffs in the AL with 89 wins.
  21. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) Detroit isn't good offensively? Buehrle has been horses*** against the Indians and Rangers. Should we throw him under the bus for not pitching well against good hitting teams? Contreras has a 4.91 ERA against the weak hitting Cubs. He also has an ERA over 6.00 against the Indians. Under the bus? Vazquez pitched great against the Indians, sucked against the great hitting Rangers and Blue Jays, and even sucked against the crappy hitting Twins. Boy, I bet some of you just don;t how to feel with all of our starters not pitching well against great hitting teams. :rolly :rolly :rolly :banghead OK, let's play it your way. What are Freddy's overall numbers if you take away his starts against the Indians and Bluejays?
  22. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) Outside of Kenny Rogers (who is a terrible 2nd-half pitcher, BTW), none of those guys have ever done squat in the majors. Oh, and Maroth just had elbow surgery. And Verlander, the rookie, has never thrown anything close to 200 innings before and it's unlikely that his arm is conditioned well enough to pitch effectively in September. Blah, blah, blah. I'm going by what I see as of right now. And as of right now, their pitching has been the best in the AL. Will it continue? Nobody knows. But I'm not gonna just dismiss them just because it's the cool thing to do on Soxtalk. Yeah, I was implying I'd rather have their staff over ours. :headshake It wouldn't be very hard to do better than what Jon is doing right now. And moving McCarthy into the rotation would create another hole in our already suspect 'pen. Unless you think Garland would flourish there. In which case you'd be nuts. Why don't you stick to the topic of the thead? It asks should we be concerned about our rotation. When two guys have eras over 5 and 6, yes, you should be concerned. I don't need a reminder from you on how crummy our bullpen has been. No, what's your point is what you should be asking. I don't think you even have one. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) People here already understand that. But your hard-on for a pitching staff that hasn't done anything noteworthy over the long run doesn't make any sense. The Sox had a "good staff" in the first half of 2000. How'd that work out? Dude, just stop.
  23. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) I was talking up Barry Zito, but we probably don't have what it takes to pry him away. Pretty much.
  24. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) AS I have already pointed out, Garcia's struggles have only come against the Indians and the Blue Jays (one game was were he was rushed through the rain delay.) In other words...He sucks against good offensive teams. That makes me feel a lot better I don't know what it's gonna take before people realize that the Tigers are a good team. Will they win the division? I don't know. But I think we're at a point now that we can stop waiting for the Tigers to all of a sudden fall apart. They've got a good staff. Period.
  25. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 09:54 PM) Too bad Tracey couldn't hold 'em down. We'd still have a shot down 3 runs right now. LOL. Looks like I was right. This loss falls squarely on Tracey.
