  1. Anybody know if Logan is scheduled to pitch today? I wanna get my first look at this kid.
  2. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) According to Dave van Dyck, Logan's been in AAA for three years. No need to worry guys, he's got plenty of experience. How reassuring. Some of these writers are pathetically clueless.
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Can we trade Singleton for Stone? Not even in my dreams. Say what you will about the man, but he knows his baseball. Dude was 100% on the money in regards to Wood and Prior.
  4. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) I'm not sold on Alabama outside of Tuscaloosa. The game isn't in Tuscaloosa, is it? If not, take the Eagles. The game is in San Diego. I'll probably go with Marquette. I won't be surprised at all if Bama wins, though.
  5. QUOTE(bulokis @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 10:55 PM) Our offense without Pods will be a lot different and I hope he is ok to start on opening day. It wasn't until Pods got hurt last year they we went on our slide. I don't think that was any coincidence. We need him at 100% to maximize this team's full potential.
  6. I think the offense is the last thing we should be worrying about.
  7. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) I believe he gave up 1 hit and 1 walk in 2 IP, which was better than the rest of them. I still can't believe they're really serious about this kid making the team. If they are (I pray they're not), they need to consistently put him in situations such as the one against Oakland.
  8. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) He faced Oakland starters the other day. Wow, I didn't know that. He retired all of them?
  9. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) Almanza didn't help his cause today. He got rocked, reynoso did not fare well either. It looks like its Lopez or Logan. That was Reynoso's first earned run of the spring. He's still in the running. Dissapointing to see that Almanza got lit up. I really like his stuff.
  10. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) From this point forward, if I'm Ozzie, Logan relieves our starters. He should pitch atleast one inning every three days. If his performance is closely judged in spring training, I'd prefer it be against the best players. Put him in situations where bases are loaded. Or three proven major league hitters are due up. Have Guillen smuggle him onto the Venezuelan roster for today's game against DR. If we're basically ignoring all logic concerning his quick advancement from Great Falls to the major, might as well put him through baseball hell. I agree. If they're really serious about this kid, let's see what he's made of. Put him in there against the absolute best hitters the other team has to offer. I'm pretty sure it would be ugly.
  11. Marquette/Alabama is another game I'm torn on. The Eagles have excellent permiter players, but their bigs are AWFUL. Alabama should murder them inside. This is a tough one.
  12. I think the Saints are gonna draft D'Brickashaw Ferguson now. The desperately need o-line help.
  13. The potential reward far outweighs any risk in this case. Good move by the Dolphins. I'm glad he's no longer in our division.
  14. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) Wisconsin to the final 4. What a f***ed up draw, but of all the #1 seeds Nova is probably the most beatable for the Badgers. And if we can get past them Minnesota is basically home court for the Big Red Machine. I don't think they would have a prayer against Nova.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) Yes. And I think he wouldnt have any problems with every big man on the bulls as well. Don't you mean no?
  16. I see this one wasn't pretty. Did any of the pitchers look good today?
  17. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) It'll be interesting to see what he does when he's finally playing people closer to his size. Do you really believe he's gonna have any problems with the bigs in today's college basketball?
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:26 PM) Someone want to give me a Cliff Notes version of what to expect out of Alabama? Specifically, their low post game and how well (or how poorly) they rebound? Their low post game/rebounding is very solid. They've got Jermareo Davidson, who averages 14 and 9, and Richard Hendrix, who averages about 8 rpg. They're both good shotblockers as well. They'll definitely give you guys some problems down low.
  19. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) It's not their schedule that is impressive. A lot of teams haven't really done anything, and they're one of them. It's their roster that I like. They have two legit big men in Slaughter and Abukar, something a lot of major conference teams don't have. Heath was the conference player of the year and is a solid shooter and scorer. Sharper is another really solid shooter that hits for a really high percentage. Williams is a passable PG, and Spain is a pretty good all-around player. Their roster is pretty impressive, and half of their losses came before Abukar is eligible. They're dangerous, especially considering they're in a weak bracket. Yeah, they've got some weapons.
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) There's no way you trade Politte. He was probably the best middle reliever in the entire MLB last season and he's making peanuts this season ($1.2 million). Even if he doesn't reproduce last season's numbers (which he likely won't), he's still valuable to our bullpen Exactly!
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) As I mentioned before, Cotts is a keeper. I think you will be dissapointed in Cliff. I'll be more than satisfied with an era in the 3's. If Politte bombs, I'll be the first to say you were right. I don't think that's gonna happen, though.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) Giving up 6 runs in the 3rd game of the season won't set the tone for a good reputation with a fanbase. That wasn't all his fault. I agree that many were too hard on Viz last year.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) I base my thinking about Politte looking at his career and as for what I would get for him, I would have to see what was available for a guy coming off a great season not making a ton of money. I was also a guy who was nuts wanting KW to trade Shingo the winter of 2004, when they could have gotten something for him. Look at Cotts numbers? Do you really think its fair to expect the same? I like Cotts and think he will be good, but he'll probably give up a few more runs this season. I have made no claims about getting rid of Cotts. Barring injury, he will be in the White Sox rotation in a couple of years. Maybe Buerhle's replacement if he goes to St. Louis. Not that I've thought about this for even a second, but I don't think it would've been possible to trade Politte and have gotten anything better in return. As far as what I expect of Cotts and Politte, it doesn't really matter. I'm not gonna dismiss their '05 seasons as flukes just because. And what if they don't match those numbers? Does that mean they're gonna suck? Does that mean they still can't help us win games?
  24. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) Well, other than Hermanson's fluke career year season he had with mediocre stuff and striking no one out. I wouldn't have expected Hermanson to come close to repeating his numbers from last season. I would have expected an ERA in the high 3's or around 4 if he was 100% healthy. You wouldn't take those numbers from him? I sure would. Especially since he wouldn't have been counted on to close this year.
  25. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) No, but he should anticipate who isn't going to be so good in 2006. Bullpens need to be turned over year after year. There aren't many relief pitchers who follow up great years with great years. If Hermanson is down for a while, which definitely appears to be the case, if Politte is the 2004 version of himself, if Javier Lopez is your second lefty, that will leave BMac, Cotts, and Jenks. If I were KW, I would have traded Politte this offseason. He had a great year, but the last time he pitched as much as he did last year, the next year his ERA was 5.66. Maybe he totally sucks, but I still don't understand letting Castro go. They could have avoided it by putting him on the 40 man I believe. But how would you know these things before the season even started? That's where I'm not understanding you. How could Kenny possibly know that Politte and Cotts might not be as good? Or anywhere near as good? Traded Politte? Are you nuts? Trade him for what?
