White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) And this is one of the reasons some of us can't stand you on this site. Myself, and many others, are far from Sox homers. However, I'm sick of you constantly stating how every single move the Red Sox make is the greatest transaction ever. Also, if your cousin can't beat out Baj, then he doesn't deserve to make it to the big leagues (it's harsh, but it's true). I find it hillarious that you bring up a player's contract. Coming from a Red Sox fan, that's comical. No one is saying Cintron's a superstar. However, he's a very good bench player, and is versatile enough to fill in anywhere on the infield. Fathom getting on somebody about always being negative? I definitely agree with you, though.

White Sox Acquire Infielder Alex Cintron
Kenny Williams strikes again! This is a WONDERFUL trade. In Cintron, we get a versatile swtich-hitter who can play every infield position except first. He's also got a little pop as well. As has been mentioned, he led the NL with 3 pinch-hit HRs last season. And all we give up is Baj? He seems like a nice guy and all. But it didn't appear he was gonna do anything with this organazation. Good luck to him in Arizona. Our bench is now loaded. We now have two of the premier reserves in baseball. Way to go, Kenny!

Borchard biding time early
QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:54 AM) Guys like Matsui and Ichiro both had their worst seasons the first years. With all the differences between MLB and playing in Japan, it's no wonder. Rather than going through a sophomore slump, IMO, Iguchi should improve upon his 2005 year. Rather than pitchers beating him, I saw Iguchi look just plain tired. His bat slowed down, which seemed to suggest fatigue more than pitchers owning him That's not all together true. Ichiro won the MVP his rookie season. Matsui knocked in over 100 runs his rookie season. I agree with the premise of your post.

Rate my team, please.
I didn't even realize it was an 8 team league. That explains it. Anyway, you've got a nice team, Maggs.

Are Gload and Borchard locks?
I think Borchard and Gload are total locks if the Sox decide to go with 11 pitchers. It's nice to see that Owens, Fields and Sweeney are all having good springs so far. But no way any of them makes the team now. It would be a lot better for them to play everyday in the minors and prove that they can do what they're currently doing consistently.

How the heck did you end up with Pujols and Cabrera?

Borchard biding time early
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) What happened a lot was that pitchers would throw fastballs early in the count to avoid Pods stealing. Then, Iguchi would get in down in the count, and they'd put him away with a slider. I'd like to see him be aggressive at the plate this season. That's the whole idea behind moving him down in the order. I expect him to have a big year.

Borchard biding time early
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) I felt like the league adjusted to him last season as the year went on, and Iguchi struggled to make his own adjustments. This is a very big year for Iguchi, and it's important for our lineup that he avoids the Sophomore Slump. I think he was simply tired more than anything. It's not an easy transition from Japan to the majors. I wouldn't worry about him.

Wisc. Milwaukee up 8 at the half. Brandon Polk is singlehandedly keeping the Bulldogs in the game.

Borchard biding time early
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) Trust me, it's not the ABs so far this season which made me think this. Care to elaborate?

Borchard biding time early
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) I'm still concerned that Iguchi's going to be our weakest hitter this season. Doesn't seem like he's real comfortable at the plate so far. Our weakest hitter? That's rather bold. It's only been 13 at bats.

Borchard biding time early
QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) For his sake I hope he makes it, but I really just don't see it happening....and I know all your Ross Gload lovers out there are also with me.....remember all the hullabulloo "Ross Gload will be the starting 1st baseman in 2006" If we go with 11 pitchers, and it looks like that will be the case, he'll make the team.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) ORU wins. It would've been a crime if CSU made it. They f***in blow. And what was with Michael Henderon taunting when his team is down 21?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 07:25 PM) Maybe wanting to reach the big leagues in the mid-1980's triggered it? You could say that about anybody.

Kirby Puckett has died.
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) Depends on how you look at it, but as far as I know, no one knows to what degree it was done. He was never convicted of anything, so it's hard to say. I think it is fair to say that he was a good man that had a very tough time after he retired. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to be a man on top of the world, at the top of your profession and loved by everyone, to having an illness take the game and your world away from you. Imagine feeling bulletproof one day and the next barely being able to see and being told your existence as you know it is gone. Obviously he struggled with the real world outside of baseball. While not condoning any of his transgressions, whatever they may have been, I will personally choose to remember him in his better days, when the world loved Kirby Puckett. Excellent post. A couple of the idiots on the score today (I can't remember who) were just ripping Puckett to shreds. Saying he did this and he was like that and so on. To have the sport you love just taken away from you like that would affect anyone.

all-big ten teams out
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) He had a better than Augustine of Illinois. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe the fact Northwestern is so bad is the reason he didn't get 1st team.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 06:25 PM) Qwerty have you actually seen Ryan Sweeney play at all besides 2-3 spring training games or just going off of what you read? Of our 3 OF's he is the one in my opinion I think has the most chance of sticking. Your right on Owens should only be a 4th OF he might get a starting job 1 season but in long run dont see him anything more than that. Im also not too high on Brian Anderson but admittingly I havent seen him much besides last season so holding judgement until he has a full major league season under his belt. I fully expect Sweeney to get at least 15-20 HR's.... partly because he is finally healthy and everything but more importantly is he isnt messing around with his swing anymore. Than finally he should spend half the season in Charlotte im guessing which would help that total a lot. I know he had 4-5 near misses last season that would of been HR's in just every other minor league park. Guys im hoping impress this season is the mysterious Anderson Gomes and than Salvador Sanchez.... hoping at least one starts to become a serious prospect. I agree. Everything that I've read has said Sweeney's power will come. He's demonstrating that now. His wrist appears to be fully healthy.

Sun-Times article on Ryan Sweeney
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) Ryan looks like he might match or exceed that '04 performance. Let me now revise this statement and say that he WILL exceed his '04 performance.

Morrison or Reddick??
To answer the question of the thread, I'll go with Morrison.
