  1. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) Rowand hit .270 last year. Do you think he had a good offensive year? And the point of this was? I'm not saying Pierre had a great year. Just pointing out it wasn't as bad as some are making it out to be.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 09:03 PM) And had a .326 OBP. But yeah -- he stole bases. I know what his OBP was. He obviously had an off year in that department.
  3. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 03:09 PM) f*** YES!!!!!!!!! Thome + Konerko = new best 1-2 punch. Am I wrong? It's pretty close. It depends on where Ramirez ends up. If he stays in Boston, then you have to go with him and Ortiz. If he goes to the Angels, i'd probably go with he and Vlad, barely.
  4. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) Thanx Big Hurt for being the best offensive presence in White Sox history. You will be missed. Good luck in Anahiem, Oakland, Minnesota or Cleveland or wherever life has you headed next. Soon we will see #35 on the outfield wall next to the other greats! And your statue will be bigger than life- just like you were Please god, don't let end up in Cleveland. It's gonna be hard enough to hold them off.
  5. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) how is this not getting through? he does his "usual whining"..... this time it would happen to be for atbats. do you understand what i'm saying? before it was because Paulie was getting attention. before it's been because he wanted to 1b and not DH, and later it was because he wanted to be DH and not 1b. I get what you're saying now. I don't agree with any of it. You're making Frank out to be Terrell Owens. And when the hell did he ever whine about PK getting too much attention?
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) The Sox won the WS with a closer who hadn't played above AA until August. Pierre is a maybe guy because of one down year, a year in which he still hit a solid .276 and finished second in the NL in stolen bases and triples? I think not. Pierre has more than proven himself.
  7. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) you read that a little different than what i meant. throughout his career, he has done a 'vague-whining' thing in general. he doesnt clarify what he's being pissy about, he just does it and clams up. if you're forgetting that, then you apparently havent stopped with the champagne yet. i like Frank and i'm not putting him down. i'm just saying that when you've been the kind of superstar he once was.... it can be a difficult transition to a lesser role. How else am I supposed to take that? You flat out said he would do his usual "whining" for at-bats routine come May. That's never, ever happened.
  8. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Good, now this team has absolutely NO need to trade for Juan Pierre. The offense is already vastly improved over last season, basically taking out Jurassic and Rowand, two of our worst run producers, and replacing them with Thome and Brian Anderson. Now anderson has no pressure on him and he can have a splits of 265/350/705 and if he plays good defense he's golden. If you want to argue about Pierre, please feel free, but I already answered alot I feel on the "Juan Pierre Dossier" thread, I know many here are in agreement that BA should be the CF next year. The Konerko signing only cements that in my mind, because now Thome is def the almost full time DH. Guch is fine in the number 2 spot, I don't know what all the fuss is. He's not going to magically hit 30 bombs if he moves down to 6 or 7. 30? Probably not. 20 is defintely possible, and he would be able to focus more on driving guys in. He could easily drive in 90 runs if he was moved down in the order.
  9. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) This makes the Thome trade that much better! A righty-lefty-righty power trio of Pauly, Thome and Dye make our offense scary! Last season it wasn't so scary. Does Ozzie still want a speedy #2 guy or do you guys think we will stick with gooch there? I'm pretty sure Ozzie still wants one. But it's nice to know we can leave Gooch right there if needed. I really don't think Kenny is done yet.
  10. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) The only thing we have to worry about now is the fact that it's been a while since a team's repeated championships.... With our pitching staff, a MUCH improved offense, and, of course, the Rally Crede, I wouldn't worry too much.
  11. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) Frank will be the DH for a contending team, but not ours unfortunately. i think if it came down to spot duty for us.... and ANY situation where he can chase 500 HRs.... then it's an easy decision to make. part of me wishes Frank would come back and be a bat off the bench... but i have to think that his departure at this point would be for the best. yes, we had a LOT of good vibes this october... but as the Red Sox can tell you, the next year it all evaporates...and i fear Frank would be doing his usual vague-whining for at-bats by May. When has Frank ever whined for at-bats?
  12. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) Wooooohooo!! i haven't been this happy since October 26th, 2005. And we all know what happend that day What?
  13. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) I'm still holding out the ridiculous hope that he takes a crazy pay cut to stay on for us and start once or twice a week. It's not gonna happen. Frank, if healthy, still has a lot left in the tank. He should go somewhere where he's really needed and can help somebody.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Well ... I spoke to Wilder on the phone at length and we talked about Owens, he said he was doing well but needed to hone his game a bit. That's one reason he's in winter ball. That said it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's on the team in some capacity. With the White Sox' current situation it's more about the ability to contribute vs. an idnvidual player's development. Both are issues, it's just that the former outweighs the latter. If the White Sox were, say, the KC Royals it might be different. Bottom line, if Owens is ready and can contribute he'll be on the team. Personally I was impressed with him last spring and if I recall correctly he was a guy I identified as having a breakout year. I think Reynoso was the other, oh well, Exactly. We're looking to defend a World Championship. If we get a proven guy over a maybe guy, i'm all for it.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 01:36 PM) Do you think last season's trouble trying to find someone to pull the trigger on a deal may change his philosophy a little? Obviously he wanted something more significant and was unable to do so, on the other hand he did win a World's championship. It would be interesting to see if it does have an effect on how he operates this season. That's a good point. Last year was the only year Kenny was unable to make an impact move at the deadline. I don't think he's just gonna assume that he'll be able to make a move before the deadline if needed. I think Kenny will handle the business before spring training this time around.
  16. I knew this day would come one way or another. What is there to really say? The greatest offensive force in White Sox history, BY FAR. Without Frank, I'm not even sure if I ever become a Sox fan. Watching him play, especially in the early 90's, was a joy to behold. The guy has done things that few players in the history of the game have done. He is beyond a shadow of a motherf***in doubt a FIRST BALLOT hall of famer. I tip my cap to you Frank on a magnificent career. Good luck to you in whatever you do from this point on.
  17. Was there every any doubt? I haven't felt this good since October 26, 2005.
  18. Giants up 10-7 on the Seahawks with 1:07 left in the second quarter. A loss by the Hawks and the Bears will be tied with them for best record in the NFC. Edit: I forgot that the Giants would also be 8-3. So there would be a 3 way tie for the top spot. Go Giants!
  19. How one sided is the Adewale Ogunleye for Marty Booker trade looking now? An elite pass rushing end for a second rate wr. Thank god for the salary cap.
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) If the Sox go after Mueller, then that is a sign that Crede's back problem is more serious than any of us know. It may be an unnecessary move in your mind, but your mind doesn't have all the information Kenny Williams' has. Something really bad must've happened in the last month since we won it all. Because I saw ZERO signs of a bad back from Crede in the post-season.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) I remember he was quite sad with the trade and there was some talk that even after the trade that he wanted to come back to Chicago (this was the talk out here in LA) when he became a FA. The Bulls were just never in a position to get him back and the Clips are finally good. Alright, I'm not saying you're lying, I just know what I read and heard here in Chicago. I just think people need to let it go. The Bulls won 47 games and made the playoffs last year. We have a chance to match that and maybe even win a round this year. People need to focus on that.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) Brand did not want out of Chicago. I read in multiple newspapers at the time that Brand wanted out of Chicago as soon as his rookie contract was up. The losing had become too much for him. Especially for a guy that spent his college career at Duke.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) No, you don't. Orton has made the plays he's asked to. Now if Orton starts stinking, than fine by me. I don't expect that to happen. Agreed.
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) Did Orton not make all the passes necessary two or three weeks ago when he led the Bears into field goal range to set up the game winning field goal? In fact, I think he's right around the top rated QB in the final 2 minutes of each halves. Of course he's the worse rated starter in the other 56 minutes. Point is, we aren't going to win games if were putting the ball in the arms of Orton needing score 30 points. If that happens we have failed as a team. Thats like asking the Sox to score 10 runs a game last year because we didn't have the type of offense that can do that. Your asked to win your style of games. We won't win a shootout, but thats not our style. Agreed. I know we're not the 01 Rams or last years Colts. I'm just worried about when Orton actually has to go out there and make some things happen. I especially worry about this in the playoffs. Like I said, i'm praying Orton proves me wrong. The White Sox stuffed a s*** load of crow down my throat. I can definitely go for some more.
  25. QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) 1. peterson is a pretty bad player, hence he should not be racking up rushing yards. 2. the fumble was indeed the weakest point of my argument. the point was that the team was driving and in field goal range and the bears happen to force a turnover. 3. morgan went down 5 minutes into the game. thats 55 minutes without morgan. bulls*** that that did not have an effect. 4. haha theres no way you can honestly deny that the 108 yarder was luck. there are so many blocks that must occur, without an illegal hold mind you, that it does not happen by skill. were you using your brain when you were responding, or were you just gonna back up there bears no matter what. luck must be happening when a team cannot move the ball, which the bears cannot do. they have not had a reciever go over 100 yards in a game, nor has orton passed for more than 150 yards in a game more than once. factor in that they have rushed for over 100 yards 5 times, and thats a pretty bad offense. the points must therefore come from defense and special teams. and as we all know, special teams points are mostly luck and you know it. Here's a nice Packer board for you to cry on. http://www.nfl-sports-picks.com/nfl/packers.htm
