  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 06:35 AM) Play him at catcher instead Well, they could throw Konerko back there. He was a catcher...once upon a time.
  2. We're planning on going to Cleveland and Sandusky, OH for vacation this year...hit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cedar Point, and maybe even an Indians game. As far as Cedar Point, has anyone stayed at one of the hotels on the property? I like the idea of being right there and getting the packages offered for discounted park admission. But, it seems like a lot of the reviews for those hotels are iffy. Any suggestions?
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 19, 2014 -> 12:15 PM) I've said it countless times because the prices are likely to go up. Be proactive and in the process save money. If Abreau had signed a 6y/$68M deal somewhere else, I'm convinced people would have been happy about it. Some of the same people who think it was a great signing by the Sox. I have to 100% disagree with this. I think the overall consensus was that the Abreu signing was very good. Had he signed somewhere else for the same contract, there would have been much frustration that the Sox couldn't make that same deal.
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 19, 2014 -> 09:16 AM) Sometimes Marty signs on as greg775, so it's more like 85% Don't forget The Ultimate Champion. Now we're at about 95%. The Ultimate GregMart
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 11:09 PM) Sure, but there's minimal risk if the pitcher is bad and the core is good enough to contend because a $48M contract isn't going to be an albatross based on their future payroll committments. What happens if next offseason they need a couple of starters? It's either going to cost them a lot more or they will not fill both spots. Meanwhile, you believe that the Adam Dunn contract is an albatross. And it what world would a $12 million a year committment not affect a team's ability to sign more free agents. You're not even trying anymore.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) DFA Dunn. De Aza DH and clean up hitter. Haters gonna hate. You forgot this:
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 07:49 AM) Well, their scouts could be wrong and those guys could all bust. Right. So, let's not take any risks and go with nothing but sure things. Problem is, there are no sure things. The risks for these guys are pretty low (aside from Abreu money-wise), and they have potentially very high ceilings. As the team looks now, this offseason has been very successful. We won't know how successful until the season gets rolling, and even beyond then. But my point was, how can any fan say this offseason has been a disappointment (or a far cry from what they expected) after what has been done? Hahn has a plan and he's sticking to it. Signing an expensive veteran starting pitcher (while giving up a draft pick) in the hopes of trading said pitcher soon makes no sense and doesn't fit in the plan.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) That's a far cry from the offseason hopes of many. Many being you and another person or two. The Sox landed one of the best offensive players available, traded for a young potential future star CFer, and traded for a young potential future 3rd baseman...all while saving money. I don't see how anyone could view this offseason as anything but a success. You can continue to say that the Sox should have signed one of those starting pitchers that you won't stop talking about. Thankfully one of them has been signed...for too much money and time. Soon the other will go, and that day will be a relief. Although, everyone knows that won't stop you.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) Look at that troll bait. Just layin there.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 11:33 PM) He was referring to Marty. Let the Marty alter ego suspicion begin once again! #TheUltimateMarty2014 I've actually suspected this. He'll slip one of these days and say, "I agree with me...I mean YOU. I agree with you. Whew...that was close."
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 08:12 PM) Hit the deck. Down on the floor! Shots fired! Shots fired! lol. I like this thread. 2K5 and Balta comin' together against UC and Marty. Keep it goin'. Thing is, it's not even a fair fight. It's like an old WWF match where the Road Warriors are up against a couple jobbers. The announcers are pleading with the referee to just step in and stop the fight.
  12. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 12:42 PM) Gillaspie has what 5 years control remaining? Lefty bat, can play the corner IF, hit 13 HR in his first full season with a .245 BA and an OBP 60 points higher which shows he can take some walks. He's more valuable to the Sox future than Dunn is by a mile. If you fail to understand that then I don't know what else to say. Gillaspie at 26 has a shot at becoming much better while Dunn at 34 is only going to decline. Anyone who would just dump Gillaspie doesn't get it. He has future value, Dunn does not. Shockingly enough, I agree with MOST of this post. I think I am one of the few posters who thinks Gillaspie isn't that bad. In my opinion, he's a much better option for the bench than Keppinger. But, as far as Dunn goes, he's here to stay at least for the first half of the season. Agreed he doesn't have future value, but there's just no way to get rid of him right now without eating every penny of his contract. So, since he's already on the White Sox roster, put him out there and let him play his last season with the Sox. I'll take the 30+ HRs he'll hit, albeit while grumbling about strikeouts.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 08:20 AM) Ervin Santana does not play for the White Sox. It would require bringing him in from outside the organization while also giving up a second round pick (which is something Rick Hahn has said he will not do). Adam Dunn is already in the organization and is signed for one more year and the Sox are going to try and save money before they outright release him. Do you not see the difference or should I spell it out with blocks and pictures? Stop bringing up Ervin Santana. You may as well suggest they sign Edgar Martinez or Randy Johnson because those two options have a more realistic chance of happening. At this point, I think it's time for blocks, pictures, and puppets.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) The final scene of the show from the time they entered the drug den until they jumped in the car to escape was one shot I just watched this last night. I didn't notice the one long shot while I was watching it, but now I can look back and realize how well done it was.
  15. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 12, 2014 -> 06:46 AM) Exactly. He also was our best offensive player last year, but don't bother trying to convince TUC of that. He's proving to be almost as big of a troll as Marty lately. And to use his own phrase...haters gonna hate. *Insert photo of a speedo-clad Batman pushing Bullwinkle in a baby stroller*
  16. So a thread that is supposed to be about breakout players for the White Sox gets ruined because someone posted two words. I cannot wait until the season starts so we don't have to hear this s*** anymore. In regards to what this thread is about, I'd say we'll see some good things from Davidson. I think he'll be the starting third baseman when the season starts, and he'll have a decent year, batting .260ish with 15+ HRs.
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 01:17 AM) #39? I can't think of a single player that has worn that number. Didn't Jeff Liefer wear that number?
  18. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) Please nobody take this troll's bait. I don't think I can go through this again. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 11, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) I agree with your opinion and will still defend to the death your right to say it. I second these posts.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) i liked how Michonnes flashbacks changed from angle to angle. It was all happy and fun, then it started getting darker, then she had her sword, then the guys werent smiling and laughing anymore, and then the world was destroyed and they were dead. It was a quick descent into her mind, i thought it was really well done The first change caught me off guard. I was thinking to myself that something looked different, but... Then I caught on. It was very well done.

Strong return for The Walking Dead. It was good to finally see Michonne's backstory. Great episode of Shameless. The entire direction of the season changed in about 15 minutes. It will be interesting to see how Lip's roll will change.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 7, 2014 -> 06:17 AM) There is a lot of things that are discussed on this board that are never going to happen, and just because a White Sox official says something will not happen, it doesn't mean it will not. Offseason baseball is mostly hypotheticals. One of the great things about this board is that if there is something you would rather not read or discuss, you aren't obligated to open those threads, I agree. But this subject has been beat to death. I think we were spoiled with the action early in the off season, and now we expect something to happen!
  22. Maybe we should contact Rick Hahn and ask him to post something along the lines of "I said we will not sign a player that requires we give up a draft choice, so stop f***ing talking about it."
  23. Can we issue a moratorium on any more threads of this variety?
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) Am I the only one that doesn't particularly care for these outdoor games? I haven't been to a game, but I would imagine the sightlines aren't as good as indoors. And I think camera angles are better indoors. It was fun the first time, but IMO the NHL is overdoing it. I think it's just about being there. I went to the Hawks/Wings game at Wrigley. The seats we had would have been great for a ballgame, but for hockey they weren't very good. However, being there was very cool. I do agree the NHL might be overdoing it. I think one a year should be fine.
  25. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 02:00 PM) It's funny how people think a pitcher who was very good as recently as last year can't bring back a worthwhile return in trade within a year or two but somehow Dunn can. Whatever. At least we don't *have* to pay another pitcher, however we do *have* to pay Dunn. You guys are terrible. *sigh* Do we have to go over this again and have this thread closed, too? If we were talking about signing one of those guys to a 1-year deal, that makes a little more sense. But signing a guy to a multi-year contract in the hopes that he could be traded a few months later is ridiculous. However, I never said I thought Dunn could bring back anything decent in a trade. I know he couldn't. So let's all agree on one thing here: Adam Dunn is going to play for the White Sox this season...whether we like it or not.
